Alla and Rick are beyond hospitable!!! They are fun, loving and very interesting people! The place is IMMACULATE. It is historic and you will be awed at the 120 yr old WORKING light bulbs that still work and all the wonderful antiques that you have probably never seen. Alla is a professional chef and her special breakfasts are something to behold! This is my second time here and they helped celebrate a very special birthday for my husband with family. The beds are TRULY comfortable and all bathroom amenities (shampoo, toothbrush, conditioner, feminine product needs and any thing you could ever want are provided if you did not bring yours). They have robes for you in most of the rooms. If you don't want to order the special made breakfast, the continental is free. It is NOT like other high end hotels. It is BETTER! They have a large enclosed sun room open 24/7. There is coffee, tea, juices, boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, fruit and anything you could think of!! Alla also tries to stock anything special you may desire in the fridge for the next morning. 7 celebrities have stayed here and there has been TV shows/clips of the main historic home. They have won a MULTITUDE of awards nationwide. There are two other houses and if you bring family/friends the whole home is yours to enjoy your own living room, formal dining room (where you can order food in or cook) fully stocked kitchen with coffee, refrig, stove, microwave, all utensils, plates and pans etc. In the main historic house you do not have kitchen privileges as that is where she makes her SUPERB breakfast for guests that order her special breakfast. But the sun room is there. Our family stayed 3 nights. One night we bought beer, wine and snacks and had a rip roaring time playing a fun game and talking. They also have hot tubs that can be included for an additional charge. Overall, their charges are so much less and you will have the greatest rejuvenating, relaxing time. Alla is from the Ukraine. Her bouncy personality and love and laughter just make you soooo happy. Rick is wonderful too! He is the curator of one of the finest museums in the United states with antique grama phones, musical boxes etc. that YOU WILL BE AWED AT! There are 500 WORKING pieces in the museum. Some are the only ones left known in the world. He is a professional collector and goes on trip all over the world to find them. I just can't say enough. My husband and I decided that we will stay at least every 6 months...
Read moreEleven days before Christmas, a friend and I were warmly received at the historical B&B by holliday lights, indoor Christmas trees and a lovely vibrant hostess. The same wonderful color, flavor, aroma, and presentation, which describes Alla's "made from scratch" organic meals, also describes the ambiance - the whole experience at Alla's B&B.
Homemade bruschetta - toast fingers with wine (upon arrival) and a healthy, hardy breakfast (including homemade crepes and 4 different jams) were served with "flair"... Alla greeted us at breakfast, wearing a crisp chef's hat and a delightful bibbed apron, which matched the wall borders in her kitchen (black and white checks)... what panache!!
In addition to her jams, Alla makes condiments such as "mayonnaise" - a recipe which she shared with me. Her amazing life in the Ukraine and in America have given her a broad range of knowledge in culinary lifestyles. I encouraged our resourceful hostess to share some of her recipes and her expertise via publishing a book of recipes and/or one on "eating wellness". I am not sure she will... but we'll see!
I have read and concurred with many "rave reviews", but I believe that there is "one special ingredient" which sets "Alla's" apart. She puts her "whole heart" in her food preparation, service, and hosting. She has a genuine love and concern for the comfort and wellbeing of her guests . Although I have frequented B&Bs across America and England, I cannot recall the hosts/hostess of those establishments - but I shall never forget this endearing lady called "Alla", and the "home away from home," she provides her guest... and neither will you!!
I would be remiss if I did not mention Alla's husband "Rick", who stands supportively beside his wife. He is a talented man who is capable of restoring various antique/vintage items; he is also certified to "officate" if you desire to make "new or renewed marrage vows" - an extra "perk"!
If Alla's pet rabbit "Snowball" is still in his house on the pourch, don't forget to pet him on the forehead - he loves it!
Our visit was too short, but not...
