Booked a weekend here with my wife on Orbitz. After booking I called the hotel to add an additional day. The front desk staff was very helpful and I was happy with the exchange. The entire west building of the hotel was under construction. Slightly concerned about the noise, I told the attendant there was no mention of construction either on Orbitz or on my phone conversation to add a day. She apologized but that was about it. When I asked her if they would be working over the weekend, she didn't know. So after getting our room keys (yes real keys not cards) we gathered our things and entered the room. The door to the room appeared to have been broken before and had a "handyman" repair job done on it. The deadbolt took some work to get it to latch properly. The room was clean and smelled clean. The linens appeared fresh and there were plenty of towels. The room came with a fridge, microwave, and bar sink as well as some cupboard space. There was one 3 drawer dresser and a small table with two chairs, two queen beds, and a large flat screen TV with Direct TV basic for channels. The in-room hot tub was large enough for two people to sit comfortably. The bathroom however was kind of a strange setup. The toilet had it's own room with a very loud exhaust fan, which I guess is good to cover up smells and sounds. There was a stand up shower with a fiberglass surround and a bottle of body wash/shampoo and a bottle of conditioner permanently fixed to the inside of the shower, which I thought is kind of strange for a hotel. The sink was decent sized with a small cabinet underneath and a full wall mirror with a hairdryer balled up in the cabinet under the sink. The strange thing is the hot tub although in the room itself was accessible via a curtain between the tub and the bathroom. It left very little privacy for anyone that would want to take a shower or dress with nothing more than a semi transparent cloth curtain between them and the room. With just me and my wife it wasn't an issue. There was a full glass wall with a sliding door-wall which lead to a small, and I mean small patio (about 3'D by 6'W which had a tiny table and two chairs. There is a fence that separates the patio from the pool area with no way to access the pool from the room. You needed to go through the hotel lobby to access the pool and beach. However you could access all the other patios for all the other first floor rooms as there was no separation between them. It did provide a nice view of the bay but the beach itself was very small. The pool is much smaller than portrayed in the pictures on Orbitz. It was only about 10'W by about 30' long. It was closed however as they hadn't opened it up for the year yet. On day two I put up my sign to have the room serviced which they did not do. I notified the front desk the next morning that it had not been cleaned. The attendant attributed it to a new employee not knowing that it needed to be done. She immediately called housekeeping and had them come "clean" it while we ate breakfast. When we went back to our room there were new towels in place but the garbage cans had not been emptied and the beds were very sloppily made. As in they just threw the covers back flat on the bed but didn't straighten them. My wife went back to the front desk and notified the attendant who apologized profusely and assured us that it wouldn't happen again. Back to the construction issue. The next morning (Saturday) there were guys arriving for work on the site at 7am and taking up the majority of the parking spots in the lot. But they didn't commence work till around 8am. I found a couple screws in the parking lot which I picked up and disposed of so no one would get a flat tire. The noise from the construction was relatively quiet and the crew was pretty conscious of the patrons staying there other than the parking. Overall the hotel was more of an upscale motel than a hotel, if there is such a thing and the price was fair for the location if there had been no...
Read moreThis is the third time we have stayed at Pointes North. The first was close to 30 years ago, then about 10 years ago and again this weekend. We seriously think that zero money has been spent on maintenance since our first visit, and the room was incredibly run down and very dirty. The lock on the sliding glass door was broken, so there was a chipped and splintered board in the door tract to lock it. The blinds were missing one slat and another was there, but broken and we were unable to hang it. There was pubic hair and dirt in the jacuzzi tub. All of the registers were dirty and rusted. The horizontal blinds on the small window were filthy. The baseboards were filthy. The toilet had either not been cleaned well or the seat is too old to clean completely. There was a large uncleaned fluid stain on the lower mattress dressing. There was a large, dirty, rust/water stained spot on the carpeting on the room side of the tub. The shower is tiny and our shower curtain was missing. There was no way to prevent water from spraying into the bathroom, so we had to clean that up. We could go on and on, but the point is that it was DIRTY and run down and it is questionable how this room could pass any type of Health Department inspection. Had we had another last minute option on a busy tourist weekend, we would not have stayed. Comically, we were told that there was no maid service for our stay, but there was card with a bar code to tip the maid on the dresser.
Additionally, a significant annoyance, the room had only one mirror….over the bathroom sink. No full length mirror and no mirrors in the room. We both had to hover around the sink to get ready.
As part of the room fee, Pointes North includes a continental breakfast. We called ahead to ask what was available and we were told that there was always fruit….apples and bananas, oatmeal and cereal, premade packaged breakfast sandwiches, English muffins and yogurt. Unfortunately, there was no fruit. They were already out of fruit when we arrived yesterday. No English muffins, only dessert type muffins. The oatmeal was an instant packet to heat in a plastic bowl in your room. No seating. The breakfast was grab and take to your room and the food was apparently grabbed quickly because the offerings were slim at best. There was no sugar free yogurt. No way to eat a healthy breakfast. Not at all as described and very disappointing.
On the positive side, the bed had a comfortable mattress. The sheets were very worn, but hopefully clean. We were exhausted and pleasantly surprised to find a soft, comfortable mattress on the bed. Additionally, the view is absolutely beautiful! Parking is ample as well. The clerk who checked us out was particularly pleasant. That being said, much nicer, well-maintained, clean hotels nearby have the same view and many have lower rates.
Given the cost of our stay (over $1,200.00 for 3 nights), we thought that we had chosen an attractive, well run, clean motel. The photos on the website showed very nice, modern rooms. We failed to check recent reviews because we were return guests. We should have. Clearly management and the owners are well aware and have apologized to many reviewers for the dirty and decaying facilities, but they have completely failed to rectify any of the issues. We didn’t expect luxury, but we did expect that acceptable standards of cleanliness would be met and that our room would not be in decay. Per staff and the website, we also expected a simple breakfast with healthy choices. We could not have been more mistaken on all counts. We would never recommend this hotel to anyone, but we would recommend that this hotel undergo thorough inspections by both state hotel licensing/LARA and the...
