Tacos el gallo — Restaurant in Eureka

Tried this taco truck today.

I might have given them 5 stars, but I gave them 4 because I've eaten extensively at the McKinleyville Speedy Taco, so I just can't.

But so far, this is the best taco truck I've tried within the city limits of Eureka.

This truck has a slightly different take on the typical local taco vendor - they grill their onions, which I thought I wouldn't like, but I actually did. Also, they include a thin slice of Jalapeno, lightly grilled, with the seeds left intact. A nice touch, and added the heat needed to make the tacos really good.

I prefer shredded chicken, but their grilled chicken is excellent, as is their carne. Their street tacos are overfilled, thus the extra buck and change. (I ordered two, were the equivalent of 3 from the other trucks.)

If you like it hot, ask for their green salsa - if you like it painfully hot, say so - they can and will accommodate. (I suspect ground habarnero seeds are involved, beware!)

Note their tortilla chips are the best I've had since the last time I was in Tijuana, especially when paired with sour cream & their hot green salsa.

(Edit: 2 Hours Later: I just ate the leftovers, re-rated them at 5 stars. You win, Tacos El Gallo. Still enjoying the after-fire. In my opinion, not quite as good as McK's Speedy Taco - but close. Very close.

And in your own, unique way, perhaps even better.

This is where you want to go for Mexican in Eureka. Stop looking, stop weighing the options, just come get it.

This is a taco trailer that seems to be perma-parked by RSI. They've got a little lot for their own.

I grabbed their surf n turf burrito. It was awesome and a freaking monster of a burrito. They really nailed every aspect. The tortilla, the rice, the beef, the shrimp, every one thing in that burrito was so good, and they came together like the freaking A Team to make an absolute S class burrito. Best food on this side of eureka, the carnitas is some of the best ive had, the burritos are great, shrimp tacos are amazing, and you get chips and salsa with every order.

When they moved out to the chevron on myrtle Avenue i was stoked, we needed good, affordable quick food over here, and i guess our collective prayers were answered.
