A food stand, we were looking for something out of the norm of the lobster rolls you get everywhere. We appreciated the creativity of the roll, you don’t find a lot of places on the cape trying to be different. We were on the cape for the summer and wanted something different. This was the 6th lobster roll we tried during our summer.
This is more like a stand that you would find at a festival. I knocked a star off for the setting. I’ve come across a lot of these food stands all over the US, and they try the make the best of their low budget location and try to make a cute outdoor seating experience. They have one picnic bench, and the some more seating at this random building right by with rusty chairs. Some folks like us traveled an hour from another place on the cape to try this roll, us Chatham. We aren’t taking it home, and had to eat it there. Wasn’t any effort made to have outdoor seating. No table settings, lights, streamers nothing. Just one park bench.
The roll itself is good, not the best but good and creative. It isn’t spicy at all, more like a ketchup mayo on top. The celery dressing, gave it a nice crunch. The lobster is pre-measured in saran wrap. I get that for controlling your cost, it’s just a cheap look to watch. Just have a scale and measure there.
We got the roll pretty quickly as there wasn’t much of a line on a Saturday in July at 11:30. I appreciated the creativity. I think this place could be 5 star with some tweaks on the roll and the setting. I think they could even add some more unique rolls. I want to give it a 3, but I just can’t with it being a small business. I think they are on to something that people want a unique approach to a lobster roll. Worth a try, but I wouldn’t stress it at its...

This is a food cart and some tables, in a gravel lot. It's close to the Curling Club, so it's a no brainer stop at least once on our visits.
This is the drawn hot butter version. I recently discovered the spicy mayo, which is great for me. I don't have to use the hot sauce in the car. Lol. Great, friendly staff is always gloved up when doing food handling. Bun is standard. The Romain leaf varies. I've had hard, crunchy that interrupts the lobster texture. I've had the soft, limp leaf that tears and hangs like seaweed on your lip. The Lobster is top notch. HUGE chunks of tail and claw. There is no smell or chewiness to it. I see now they are doing quahogs. That will be on my next visit. This better lobster roll is over $20 in a restaurant, but not here. It's not something your budget will allow a family to dine on everyday. Bags of chips and canned/bottled drinks are also available. If you need libations, you can step just next door into Grumpy's.
Grab some summer side dishes at the deli. A cooler of cold refreshments. Maybe some cookies. Pack your picnic basket and chairs in the car for the Barking Claw. It will make for a memorable...
Read moreStopped by the Barking Claw today because we had errands in Falmouth and looked for something 5 star on Yelp. I was surprised to see it was just a food stand without drinks or bathrooms. Should have checked it out more thoroughly, but I am glad I didn't because we wouldn't have gone and that would have been a serious mistake. I am a purist when it comes to lobster rolls. I cook the fresh lobsters for my rolls and use a little mayo/lemon and salt filled in a toasted hot dog bun with cold lettuce, but I had to try their spice lobster roll. I was prepared to think it was interesting and appreciate it's unique flavor profile, but that was not the case. It was spectacular. Worth driving from Dennis to Falmouth. My husband had the small lobster roll thinking none could be as good as the ones I make at home, but he was very impressed and said it was the best next to mine. The two gals at the stand are very personable and sweet. THIS IS A MUST STOP for lobster...
