Spent a couple of nights here between Christmas and New Years of this year.
Things started out fine but quickly we ran into issue after issue with no solutions offered. The heating/cooling system in our room cranked either pure hot air or pure cold air on max speed no matter what setting you were on. Turning it off did nothing at all. We asked the front desk to check on it after our first unbearable night of hot/cold alternating all night and the same thing happened the next night.
Our room keys needed to be re-activated after every time we left the premises, and upon needing this done the 3rd time in 2 days we were met with a very snarky "Well, I don't know what you people are doing, but this is very unusual for us." We made sure to keep our room keys in separate pockets completely away from any technology or credit cards and were then talked down to as if we were the problem đ.
The guests one floor below us were staying up all night playing loud music and then continued playing it and shouting in the parking lot at 5am as they packed up their vehicles.
There were no room phones to be able to contact the front desk immediately for anything.
They didn't have enough 'Do Not Disturb' signs for the rooms, so we had to verbally ask for no turn down service after the first day, yet we were never told that would put us on a permanent no turn down service for the rest of our stay. So after getting up after our second night and spending the day in the Grand Canyon we were welcomed back to a dirty room with no clean towels.
There was also no working WiFi for the duration of our stay. When I walked to the front desk to ask about it they said it was just 'down' with no estimate on it being up again.
It's a good location with cute interiors and I understand they recently remodeled, but they still clearly have many kinks to work out, and for the price we paid we were very disappointed in the lack of communication, support, or solutions offered to the multitude of issues we faced.
I also attempted to bring up some of these issues in a comment on their Instagram page and they chose to just delete it. So don't trust the reviews you do see. They remove negative mentions about...
Read moreI was so lucky to find this gem!!! I stayed there two nights in April, on my way to ABQ and on the way back. This hotel got everything right!
The rooms are newly remodeled with everything you could want: Comfy bed, hot shower with great pressure, big new TV, USB plugs galore, a safe, cool artwork, comfy chairs, drawers, hanging space, a big work desk, fridge, coffee maker...I could go on.
I stayed in both a standard and an upgraded room and both were well sized and well designed. I was alone but the rooms would have been amply for a couple, and I know they have rooms with more than one bed that would be great for families.
It was too cold to do much outside, but the pool, fire-pits, lounges area, games area looked like they are meticulously maintained...I will be back when it is warm enough to enjoy them. Even though it was cold and no one was out, they had the fire-pits going which was such a great thing to see from my room, made the property even more welcoming and cozy.
I was expecting it to be a little noise since I knew that there would be people arriving late and leaving early since it is close to the Grand Canyon and hikers and campers usually are late arrivers and early departers...but the hotel was so quiet! When I woke up, the parking lot was pretty full, so I know there were a lot of guests, but I honestly did not hear a peep.
There is a little Mexican place in this hotel and the food is great (and very inexpensive). I had THE BEST veggie quesidilla I have ever had in my life and I life in Los Angeles so I know my Mexican food.
The staff was superb. I interacted with a woman on my first say and a gentleman on my second stay and both of them were incredibly kind, patient, knowledgeable and helpful.
I will be back to this hotel. I'm not even going to bother trying out another hotel on my next trip, I'll just call them and book it.
This hotel is amazing, look no further if you are planning to stay...
Read moreThe Americana was the first place I stayed when I came up to Flagstaff for the first time back in 2013. Back then, it was extremely old and run-down but in a way nostalgic to me since it was my first Flagstaff experience.
Nearly 11 years since then, I finally decided to make a return trip after seeing the renovations they did. All I can say is wow. They took the fact that this was an old motel and amplified the retroness of it to make something extremely unique and just plain cool.
I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Flagstaff over the years, but honestly this has to be one of the most unique hotels you can stay at. It's all retro-space themed, and that definitely applies to the rooms too. The first thing you'll notice is THE DISCO BALL (seriously, what other place have you stayed at that you can say has a built-in disco ball in each room?). The other thing is the interior lighting that mimics low pressure sodium lamps. The woodgrain wallpaper. It's all just perfectly themed.
Just because it's retro themed doesn't mean it doesn't have modern niceties. You have a Samsung TV mounted on the wall if you want to watch that, and the wi-fi is stable and fast, too (the Americana didn't even have wi-fi a decade ago!).
The rooms are a bit smaller but again, this used to be an old motel that was fully renovated - they made good use of the space and it is extremely comfortable for what it is.
I think the only complaints that I have regarding the room are that there's no microwave and the fridge is basically useless since it's so tiny. I feel like if they put a proper micro-fridge back in and put a microwave somewhere, this would be my #1 recommendation.
That all being said, I'm so happy I stayed here again after all this time, and after the renovation was done. I'll definitely be back.
