Let me start by expressing how disappointed I was in my experience after all of the positive reviews they had recieved from others! I had booked this hotel for a three night stay after a ton of research of available options in the area. I booked a king studio suite- biggest room they had available- for me and my family to stay during our trip. I checked in the day before when I got my email and there was only one room available so I selected it. It told me my digital key would be ready when the room js and I would not need to visit the desk to check in.
We drove all night (12 hrs) and stopped by the hotel upon arrival to see if we could do early check-in (11am). Nope- no problem! We went to Garden of the God's and wasted a few hours waiting for the digital key to load on the app but it never did. I called twice between 3 and 4pm but the first time nobody answered and the second time I was placed on hold and they never came back. "Must be busy" we thought...and headed to the hotel to check.
Upon arrival, front desk attendant was quick and attentive but was trying to charge me for my whole stay upfront. I've never heard of a hotel doing this. I explained the app check in took my card and said I was ready to go but he insisted on charging me for the full stay. I had to go out to my car to get a different card and upon my return there were three parties now ahead of me in line. I waited for my turn patiently. When it was my turn I asked to see the room before authorizing my card for the full amount (bad experiences in the past) and tone changed right away and the attendant went around the corner to get someone else. He introduced her as "collegue" but she introduced herself as Assistant General Manager and acted inconvenienced. We went up elevator to floor 2 and on the walk to the room I noticed the hallway was really filthy. Stains and garbage pieces along the carpet- thought to myself...it's just a hallway, no big deal.
When we got to the room I noticed right away it didn't smell clean. The couch coushins were stained and filthy. She helped me pull out the bed and the sheets were also stained quite heavily both top sheet and mattress cover. The carpet also had little garbage pieces all around as if no vacuuming had been done.
In the bedroom, I pulled back sheets to discover they too were stained and there was hair in the sheets. Behind the headboard there was a ton of garbage (straws, hair, other items) and the assist. Gm said something like "oh well it looks like it might be time for deep cleaning" I explained to her the room was not clean and I was uncomfortable accepting it but would need to speak to my husband as we were exhausted and there was limited availability in the area. She was not kind
On the way down the stairs I asked if I would till be charged for cancelation if I declined the room due to their cleanliness issues and she said yes. She said they would change the sheets but I explained that a room that filthy does not leave me much confidence that anything else has been cleaned.
When I came back in, she was in the process of taking sheets and another lady (assuming a room attendant responsible for cleaning) to the room so I waited in the lobby. Looking around I noticed the lobby was the same story, stained and filthy. More than 20m later, she returned and I explained I could not accept the room and that I didn't think it was right to charge me for their issues with cleanliness. She then became upset and unprofessional and made a comment about the room "not being up to your standards": an unprofessional and uncalled for comment considering the room was truely filthy.
I ended up having to contact corporate guest assistance to have them cancel my reservation correctly and find a new...
Read moreI wish I had taken a photo. My room was really nice! Staff was very friendly and helpful at the counter and their cleaning crew did a great job! Their pool was absolutely disgusting though. Had algae growing in it and was not heated. I went to take a swim and once I entered the pool area, noped right out of there. I've never had a hotel that wasn't a gross motel 6 with a pool in that condition. That was disappointing. I sucked it up and decided to go swimming on day 6 of my 10 day stay and got in expecting it to be warm to swim in. It was not. It was cold and uncomfortable While trying to suck it up and get used to the cold by slowly entering, I noticed a bunch of small white chunks floating in the water (like all the flush in a diaper had exploded and was everywhere in the pool) and noped right out of there and was done trying out the pool. Their breakfast in the morning was pretty good! They had decent options and provided fresh berries for waffles and oatmeal. That was really nice! Their breakfast sandwiches were delicious! Best to eat them very early when they 1st go out though otherwise the bread gets very hard and difficult to eat. Very delicious though! Their cleaning staff cleaned every other day and it seemed like they would only pick a couple of things to clean each visit. So it was hit and miss You also should hide anything you don't want them to throw away that they would consider trash. I refill my gallon water jugs to save on plastic and found out the hard way when I left one out to dry out. I found out that Denver is not allowing plastic bags anymore so saved some paper bags to use to being items to work and those were thrown away. They also kept throwing my hand soaps away in the bathroom and giving me a new one. They were not used much. It just felt wasteful. I know they were just trying to do a good job though Same with the sponge at the kitchen sink. They threw that away my last day there It didn't make sense to me for them to do that. It was just a hit and miss on when they would give new supplies or what they would clean There were a couple of cleaners who went above and beyond though and cleaned their butts off! Thank you so much to them! It was appreciated. Sorry I didn't tip. I wasn't in a position to and I also feel like I shouldn't have to be obligated to leave a tip for someone to do their job well. But these individuals definitely deserve a raise! The beds in the room gave me a terrible back pain which made me sad cuz usually I sleep so well in hotel beds and the sheets and blankets were so comfortable I ended up purchasing an air mattress and sleeping on that instead after waking up with my lower back in so much pain that by the 3rd day, I could barely walk or move and was having to stretch every day just to not be as stiff. (I'm a 40 year old active woman who doesn't have lower back problems and is pretty flexible. I work a pretty physically active job) I tried the pull out bed as well and it was rough and did not work I liked that they had a divider curtain that could be pulled along the bed. This allowed me to block out the light on the microwave while I slept I really liked how their thermometers were set up and worked too They wouldn't get colder than 62 though. The room didnt feeling like 62. It felt warmer. I sleep better when it is cold. The thermometer would kick in right away and we fast at cooling or heating up. It was nice! All in all, it was a good stay and the rooms were really nice! Maybe the beds won't bother you like...

Our nonprofit has hosted an annual event in Highlands Ranch for years, and since 2017 we have consistently booked blocks of rooms at this Home2Suites. In the past, we loved staying here because the rooms were clean, spacious, and the staff was professional and kind. Sadly, our most recent stay in September 2025 was so unacceptable that we will never return—and we urge others to think carefully before booking.
Reservation & ADA Failure Despite reserving our room block well in advance and reconfirming with staff multiple times, there were repeated issues with guest reservations. The most serious failure involved our most honored guest: an 80-year-old double amputee, Purple Heart recipient, and his wife. We specifically and repeatedly requested an ADA room with a roll-in shower. Instead, when I arrived, I found out he was placed in a room designated for the hearing impaired—with no roll-in shower. After being told this would be corrected before he checked in, we later discovered that he had still been placed in a room without the necessary accessibility features. This forced an elderly war hero and his wife to struggle with basic care needs during their stay. That is not only unprofessional—it is shameful.
Lack of Communication About Water Shut-Off When we arrived, we discovered—only by spotting a letter left on the check-in counter—that the hotel planned to SHUT OFF all water at the property from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM during our stay. At no point in the days leading up to the event, despite repeated communication with hotel staff, did anyone alert me to this critical issue. Had I known, I would have immediately moved our group elsewhere. The shut-off fell on the very day of our event, leaving many guests unable to prepare properly. I had to scramble to relocate several attendees at the last minute.
Even outside the "planned" water shut-off, guests reported to me that they had issues with having hot water consistently in the days beforehand. After the water was restored after being shut off for an entire day, the whole hotel went without hot water for an extended period. This level of mismanagement and lack of transparency is inexcusable.
Poor Room Conditions Beyond these failures, the rooms themselves were in unacceptable condition: -Couches with stains, holes, and so dirty we had to request sheets to cover them. -Worn, dirty ottomans and lampshades are visibly spattered and stained. -Walls marked up and generally shabby. -Air conditioning units that made entire rooms smell like urine when running. -Multiple guests shared similar feedback with me: the property feels worn out, neglected, and below acceptable standards.
Final Thoughts For years, this hotel has been a reliable partner for our group, but it has deteriorated in both condition and service. The lack of consideration shown to our guests—many of whom are military heroes—was totally unacceptable. Guests deserve honesty, communication, and a safe, comfortable stay. Unfortunately, Home2Suites Highlands Ranch no longer offers...
