We have always enjoyed our stays at this hotel but were extremely disappointed at how the place has declined. We checked in for our 2 night stay and were given a lower level, basement room. Unfortunately only one elevator was functioning so this became quite and ordeal as everyone else in the hotel was going up except the ten or so basement rooms and with one elevator we waited quite a bit. When we finally got downstairs there were buffet tables set up in the hallway and people everywhere. There were children playing kickball in the hallway further down. We struggled to get our luggage cart past everything. When I asked the front desk person what was happening he said these people were using an event hall and had permission to have their buffet line down the hallway I was pretty shocked. Instead of going to nap we went out as it was so noisy we couldn’t have slept. Our AC/Heat unit cover was hanging on by a prayer and a stream of cold air was pouring in. This wasn’t as big a problem as the lowest level stayed hot so we didn’t complain. The next morning we went to breakfast, which was supposed to end at 10am but by 9:30, when we got there, all that was left of the hot food was cold sausage links and the some oatmeal. We went later so we thought the next morning we would be bright and early. On the morning of our departure we went to breakfast at 6:30am and had scrambled eggs and sausage patties which were good and hot. We then went back to our room to nap till checkout- which on our itinerary and receipt said 12 noon. At 11:15 the cleaning lady was in our room while we were sleeping. We asked her to leave and she did but in 10 minutes the maintenance man was banging on the door. We were half asleep and didn’t know what was going on. He hollered that checkout was at 11 and we needed to get out. I tried to tell him that it was at 12 and he argued that it had changed and we needed to go now. I showed him my itinerary and he countered that they changed it 6 months ago and if I had any questions I could take it up with the desk people- but get out of the room. By this time we were arguing in the hallway. When I went to the desk the lady looked at me like I was crazy (which I probably looked crazy since I was woke from a dead sleep to be screamed at like a criminal in the hotel hallway). I showed her my itinerary and explained what had just taken place. She said the time had change but that they hadn’t had a chance to change it online. I asked how I was supposed to know this and told her what happened with the maintenance man and she was unapologetic but said we could stay till 12 (it was now 11:45 anyway) we immediately left. We will not be returning. It is one thing to mess up, everyone does. It is another thing to be rude and argumentative. Be aware if you chosen this establishment in the past (as we had) you are not going to the same place you...
Read moreLet me start by saying that Hampton Inn is my go-to brand when it comes to a hotel stay. They provide the best bang-for-the-buck and you pretty much know what you are getting when you stay here. Their hot breakfast is always a highlight with some being better than others.
While traveling from NC to NJ while on vacation I had a choice of staying at either the Hampton Inn in Ashland or Fredericksburg. Ashland was our first choice but when we saw that Fredericksburg had an indoor pool, it became obvious we should travel 40 more miles north and we booked this location.
Imagine our shock when we found out that the pool was drained and closed. We were completely shocked as this was the reason for staying here. Not only that, but half of the workout equipment in the gym was out of order. Not a good start.
Other than that, the room was pretty decent. We got a King Bed "suite," which didn't cost much more than a regular room and for that reason, I wouldn't really consider it "suite" quality. I mean, the room was probably a little larger and there was a pullout couch. However, there was nothing really special about the room. On the bright side, it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We had problems with our TV remote working and a tech came by within minutes to replace it.
The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful to us -- especially when we had remote problems. We were offered two cold bottles of water from the adjoining kiosk since we were Hilton members. That was a very nice touch.
The included breakfast was pretty decent and quite filling. There were hot eggs, turkey sausage, french toast sticks, oatmeal, a waffle maker, yogurt, cereal, bagels, muffins, juice, and coffee.
For the most part, we enjoyed our stay here though the primary reason for us doing so was using the pool and that just wasn't available. Otherwise, this is a great overnight stop if you are...
Read moreWe have stayed at this hotel numerous times but it’s gotten so gross. This visit will be our last. We pulled in from 12 hours on the road and my husband walked in to see if they had rooms. He asked for 2 beds since he is recovering from a cold and wanted to not expose me. They told him there were none available but upsold him on a king. We took it because this is a good place to stop and we had already picked up sandwiches in the car. Our 15 lb dog was with us and has always been on our trips to this hotel. There was some event at the hotel which was a lot of commotion, opening and closing of doors and elevators going non stop. We were one room off the elevator and this caused our dog to bark. The front desk called and said they had a complaint on him. We were asked to sign a paper and pay 50 dollars. We had already been up charged 50 dollars over advertised price on the website and my husband is 66 and an honors member worthy of a discount. We never argued. Also the charge for the dog was never really a warning about the dog and noise but just about the fee. Meanwhile we were experiencing just as much noise and disturbance along with the group gathered outside the door by our car smoking cigarettes and weed each time we had to leave the room for something. The room was disgusting as noted in the pics. Ladybug infestation, AC running but not cooling the room, and the tub had large stains. My socks were black from walking on the carpets. I don’t think it’s fair to charge for a dog when the room is not clean to start and invested with lady bugs. And when we left at 7 am there were 2 rooms visible on the first floor with 2 beds clearly available. Exactly what we asked for. The 200 dollar gross night in this hotel is not worth it. Gross try one of the newer hotels on the...
