Candlewood Suites, Spotsylvania is an IHG property which over the years IHG has always been a good and trusted brand. That is no longer the case. Let me first say that the staff and management were very courteous and as helpful as possible. However, this place is a lost cause and a real smear on the IHG brand. Remember, you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression. To begin with, the owner could not even find our reservations. Finally he pretended to find it but I had to tell him everything about the reservation. The photos online of this facility are quite nice. The reality stands in stark contrast to those photos. The lobby is dingy and dirty and the smell could knock a buzzard off a fence post from 50 yards away. Nowhere on line was I able to see that this was a smoking facility. To be honest, I never noticed it to say that it was a smoke free facility either, so some of this is obviously my fault. After double checking it does not state one way or the other even though the owner told me that it does. The first room we were given, keep in mind this is a suite that has a kitchen and we were scheduled to remain for 3 night, had a huge empty space on the wall where the microwave was supposed to be and the room stunk terribly. The owner seemed very surprised by this fact. Apparently there is a huge lack of communication within the staff. He said they were completely full and he could do nothing about it. However, after complaining about the smell and there being no microwave, he suddenly decided to show us 2 more available rooms. Both stunk but the third was the least objectionable so we moved to that room. Once we got into the room and really started checking things out we were disgusted by the filth and condition of the room. One of the light fixtures didn’t even have a light bulb in it. The microwave was held together with packing tape. There was 1 bowl, 1 glass, 1 saucer and 2 plates in the cabinet. Again, keep in mind this is a suite for 2 with a kitchen to be used for 3 nights. Also, there was 1 spoon in the drawer. There were 2 forks and 2 table knives. The chair that was on wheels was in very bad shape as well. I needed to move the overstuffed chair in the corner so that a power cord could reach the bed. Wow, I don’t think housekeeping had ever moved that chair when they cleaned the room!!! The bed was very uncomfortable and when I sat on the foot of the bed to put on my socks, the entire bed lifted off the floor at the head of the bed and I almost fell to the floor. I didn’t do that again. The bathroom seemed to be the best part and seemed to be nice and clean. However, in the corner on the floor was a pair of earrings. We left them there. The drawer next to the bed had a nice bible in it but was also littered with a lot of dirt and debris. Obviously it too had never been cleaned. Years of smoking inside this facility will prevent this hotel from ever being a top quality facility for everyone to enjoy. If that wasn’t enough, they are well within their rights under Virginia law but, they do not allow weapons to be carried on their property. I do not like businesses that seem to think I am not entitled to the right to defend myself from criminals. I will NEVER stay here again and I may very well never stay at an IHG property again either. It was obvious that this stay was going to be a terrible experience and we informed the owner that we would be checking out a day early. He was again informed of our desire to check out early on Saturday morning. However, when we did check out, he was conveniently not available and we were charged for all 3 nights. I am now trying to get a refund for the final night of which we did not stay. Only time will tell how that goes. In closing, my wife and I will never again stay at this facility again. In fact, we will never stay at another Candlewood Suites location and I just got off the phone with IHG corporate informing them of just how bad this location is and how we are not even interested in staying at any IHG facility in the...
Read moreAvoid this location by all means they are a scam me and my family booked a stay from Sept 26 2024- Oct 4 2024 on Priceline and chose to prepay the amount of 701 dollars for a double bedded room soon arrival we checked in and clearly stated that we had booked online with Priceline for a double bed room they asked for my card at checkin and we went to the room to find the room was a single bed room there was a total of 4 of us and a single bed was not gonna work so immediately we went back to the front desk we told the lady the issue that we had and she said that they did not have a double bed room available so we asked if we could cancel she told us that she couldn’t do refunds and we had to wait for the manager the next day ok fine we left the hotel (we did not stay any nights at all) the next day we called and we spoke to the manager she told us that she would refund the 621.20 but we had to contact Priceline for the original charge of 701 ok cool we called Priceline and told them the issue they canceled the reservation and sent us the refund for the 701 they also told us that the manager said she forgot to do the refund for the 621.20 and was doing it now while they were on the phone ok great right nope a week later the 701 was refunded but the 621.20 was not we called the hotel and the manager was not in so we left a message for her to return our call waited a day no call was returned we called again the next day and she answered telling us she again forgot to process the refund and that she was getting to it right now ok awesome right nope week later still no refund so we called Priceline and they contacted the manager she again said she forgot and the whole process was repeated fast forward past numerous calls and numerous voicemails and messages we finally got ahold of the manager only this time she said she processed the refund and it should have been released she the. Said she may have sent it to the wrong card I’m no genius but if you process a refund from a debit card doesn’t that money go back to the same debit card that was used to purchase so I call bs anywho she then says that we need to contact the bank to have the funds released we did just that only they have no record of a refund ever being processed for Candlewood suites in Fredericksburg Va meaning each time she told us she processed the refund was a lie this was on the 6th of September it is now the 18th of October and we still have not received a refund we call everyday but the manager is either not in the office or if she is and we get transferred to her office it is sent to voice mail she even had the nerve to tell us she doesn’t understand why we are so upset it is 621 dollars that your holding hostage that was not authorized to be charged to my account and it is going on a month that we have been dealing with this there are people that would have done a lot worse than us I think we have been more than patient we have called the corporate office no help all they do is send a message to the hotel for the manager to return the call to us but of course she never returns calls I have seen reviews and this is obviously a ongoing issue being many other customers are having the same complaint so we are now taking legal action and this company has 30 days to comply or there will be a law suit and if anybody else has had this issue please contact me at +1 757-529-2299 and I will get you in contact with my lawyer times are too hard for these companies to play with our money like this and they are playing with the right one and to the manager if your the only one that can handle situations like this you should spend more time in the office doing idk your job maybe !!! We checked in February 10 2024, we specifically told them we were there for business because at that time if it wasn't business you had to check out for 3 "blackout days" the front desk manager Beverly Smith was the one who made our reservation over the phone. Beverly was very nice at first but eventually her demeanor changed and she became really nasty. She has immediate family that works the same shifts as her ( which I honestly thought wasn't allowed) her daughter Hope overcharged us in taxes and hope said " my mom will fix it in the night audit later" Beverly was right there when it happened and refused to fix it on the spot. She never fixed it. We did have a credit before that because of taxes which also disappeared so I'm assuming there is some embezzlement going on. There is no recognition of members. We are considered diamond elite in the system because we stay a lot with this brand. I had to call the diamond elite line a few times because of how the front desk staff was acting. Beverly tried charging my for a sheet because there was a spaghetti stain on it and she couldn't get it out! Umm.... She took my credit for sheets that they are required to change and wash anyway. The diamond elite customer service must have done something because I didn't have an issue again but my credit is still missing. According to Beverly there never was one which is a lie because another employee told us there was a credit. Beverly let's hotel guests run the front desk. The guest who stays at the hotel can't count an shorted me a day. There is another guest named Samantha who was also working behind the desk I had an issue with my key and Samantha refused to fix my key even after showing ID. She was very rude and very nasty. I called the diamond elite line because of that fact she refused to fix my keys. Samantha is a guest at the hotel we have seen her as a guest. She sells things to people she shouldn't be. Beverly even called my husband to confirm it once. ( Have phone logs and notes to prove it) Beverly refused to accommodate us any longer before Christmas for what reason I don't know. This place is absolutely horrible there are roaches and mice and black mold down the hallway ceiling tiles that Beverly had her maintenance man brother paint over. The housekeepers do not clean well at all. The rooms are dirty and it's just disgusting all the way around. When we left our stuff smelled like sewage it's just absolutely nasty. Things went downhill when apparently Beverly Smith became the General Manager. A position of power showed her true colors......nasty. Seriously just turn around go to the other hotels in the area.. heck the other places are better than this. It's not a safe property at all I stayed on the first floor and had random people knocking on my door and people literally leaning against our window. During blackout days they let people sleep in there car in the parking lot. There are vicious dogs on the property and the staff is just rude and clueless. The staff that is nice they seem to get rid of quickly. I am in works with the health department and the Better business bureau I have notes dates and times to prove everything. This place should be condemned. The mold and roaches are so bad. We had to put our own roach traps out because they were taking over. The dishwasher in the room would leak when it was running. No one ever fixed it this place is disgusting I can't stress it enough!!! Upper management really needs to come in there and fix it. I am owed at least one hundred in credit that disappeared.
