Overall I would stay here again.
We typically stay at Hilton Brand hotels when we travel but decided to give this place a try. Everything was comparable to a Hampton Inn as expected.
We did find an issue with the cleanliness of our King Suite Pull Out Sofa. The sheets on the sofa and the bag with the pillow and blanket had what appeared to be Dorito crumbs.
I'm not sure if somebody actually slept on it or whoever was folding the actual sheets had dorito crumbs on their fingers. When I called down to the front desk the woman who picked up the phone seemed to be having a bad day but the young lady who actually delivered the clean linens to our room was very nice and cheerful.
I ended up walking down to the front desk a bit later because she had forgotten the extra pillow and we later found the blanket having dorito crumbs too. The lady at the front desk may or may not have been the person who answered the phone but she didn't seem so happy to be there either and I waited while she was on her cell phone speaking to someone who she later told me was the manager of the hotel.
I was surprised that when she requested my room number and didn't even offer me paper to write it down. It's security & privacy 101 with staying in a hotel that a guest room number is never spoken out loud but written down instead. I asked her for a piece of paper and I wrote it down and she explained that she was on the phone with the manager and that she would be following up with housekeeping. She gave a young lady instructions on where she could find a blanket and a pillow in an upstairs closet or something to give to me. This was the same young lady who previously gave us clean linens and again she was really nice and sweet.
Anyhow, we also killed a few bugs in our room. (The ones that look like ladybugs but they're not). I have no idea where they were coming from. Our windows were shut.
Otherwise, everything else seemed to be pretty clean. I think the bathroom bottom of the shower curtain could have been clean better and the corners of the bathroom but again after the dorito situation I wasn't surprised.
We did have a second room too and I know that our family who was staying in the second room complained that the toilet was loose but they didn't have any other complaints that I know of.
They have a really good breakfast spread where you can make your own waffles and they have cereal and they had omelets and sausage and potatoes fresh fruit and yogurt and pastries and what not.
I did notice that there was a housekeeper worker who was always down to get breakfast every time I came down to get breakfast and that was a little off putting. I'm definitely not saying that workers shouldn't eat but guests should definitely go first and shouldn't have to be waiting for workers to use the amenities that guests have paid for. This worker definitely was on the clock because I would watch her walk upstairs and start knocking on doors and pushing her cart so I don't understand what that was about.
We didn't use the pool but it was packed with many other guests enjoying it, both young and old. It was about 5ft deep and there was also a hot tub. I believe they said that the pool stayed open until midnight.
They have late checkout at noon which is really nice and they were accommodating to let us check out at 12:30 which was great too.
There was a male housekeeper who was cleaning one of our rooms that we checked out of and he was very helpful with getting me a bag before we checked out our...
Read moreI never could imagine a hotel this nice could exist in Freeport, IL. All of these years I was told that Freeport, IL was a place to avoid, but I had made a reservation here anyway because I did not want to take the risk of driving straight through to Galena late at night. I am glad that I had made that decision because this hotel was wonderful and a very nice place.
One thing that really impressed me beyond the nice facilities and good Breakfast was that the original room in which I had been assigned had a problem with its smelling of cigarette/Marijuana smoke. The Management had only one room left for the night, and it had given me one of the best rooms on the property as a replacement. It was so nice of them to have upgraded me rather than having me stay in a room that clearly had issues.
The Front Desk staff at check in and check out were attentive and helpful, and I had nothing but positive interactions with them. The Night Clerk in particular was good when I had brought up the problematic room with him, and he did everything he could to make the situation right.
The location of this hotel is great for anyone heading west to Galena and who may want to take a break, or this is a great stop off point for anyone heading towards Rockford or Chicagoland and needs a place to recoup especially after a long journey along US 20 that demands concentration due to its rugged terrain. Plus, this hotel is right by all the major shopping in Freeport be it Farm 'N Fleet, Cub Foods, etc. in case anyone needs to restock. Plus, there are a lot of dining options within walking distance of this hotel. Also, if one has vehicle issues, it seems like all the major domestic brands have dealers nearby this hotel thus enabling one to get service nearby while staying at the hotel.
I like how this hotel kind of looks like a house having a staircase in the front area, and this hotel has a very welcoming feel. It has a nice pool area, and the other amenities here such as Breakfast are very good. This hotel definitely maintains standards meaning that even folks who stay at more expensive brands of hotels shall feel comfortable here. For a small town hotel this location had a lot of the things one would see at big cities.
The area around this hotel is quiet, safe, and very well maintained. One certainly does not need to worry at all about safety around this hotel, and it is a wonderful property keep up very well. One can literally walk down the street without any problems to the area shopping due to its being a safe place having sidewalks...
Read moreWould say this is 1 of the best hotels in Freeport: it's this or the Hampton. We have stayed a few times, but this time was the worst as far as cleanliness goes. The service was wonderful. There was a couple slices of chewed gum on the floor, a bottle cap under the table between the beds, black hair on the bathroom floor and shower walls, and the tub took forever to drain. Room 120 for reference. The pool is open until 12am, but did not go to see how clean it was as we were swimming all day at a friends house. Super expensive for a place like Freeport. It was $180 for 1 night (Sat), or $375 for 2 nights (Fri and Sat), and there wasn't any events in town to cause such a high price. The AC didn't really keep up, was super hot while sleeping, and the AC woke me and my family up 3 times throughout the night with how loud it was turning on. The beds seemed like they are more doubles instead of queens, and lumpy. The walls are thin, was woken up at 5am by people laughing in the halls and doors slamming. Another thing that should improve: the window curtains are not black out, and you cannot shut them all of the way. In fact, you can only close them about a foot from the outside towards the middle as the curtain rack is only about a foot long from each outer side. Would recommend to bring an eye mask to keep the sun out if you're like me and wake up when there is any hint of light. Breakfast was decent. A good variety, and I think ends at...
