I never think of this area a shopping center. It's a lovely thought and, in some sense, I guess it is. But my image of a shopping center is something more unified and sturdier. With sidewalks and parking lots that match.
None of this meant as a critique of the well-respected businesses operating within! Higher Grounds, CVS, Papa Murphy's, both banks, the carwash. A few more for a selective clientele. Bravo and thank you for being here!
But the gloomy deserted storefront of the former Eagle grocery taped up in old newspapers ..the pretty curved windows of a once popular ice cream shop now decorated as a closed cellphone service provider ..part of the former Wings & Things rented out to financial service businesses you rarely see anyone enter or exit.. make the whole place seem more piecemeal and delicate than it should. I keep expecting sagebrush to blow through.
Is this just how it is now with everyone shopping at huge bargain warehouses to save $? There have to be ways to make the area stronger and more viable if there's interest in doing so. Community or commercial or private resources to tap into and cooperatively pull the property back together into one thriving shopping center that offers advantages to both the local community and the businesses renting space there. One practical step would be to repair/update the site formerly inhabited by Eagle to attract a tight new anchor...
