Really wondering if I stayed at the same hotel as some of these other reviewers? My stay was awful for the following reasons, listed in descending order from most egregious to most minor:
Our door would not close! The latch didn't work properly, and even if the door was completely closed, you could just push the door right open from the outside without having to use the key. Fortunately, my partner and I were only staying one night, so one of us was able to be in the room at all times – but had we been staying longer and needed to both leave the room for any amount of time, anyone could have just walked right in. This is a major security and safety issue! I'm just glad I caught it early and was able to keep the other locks locked at all times. Really unacceptable and for this I didn't feel safe during the stay -- if they can't even make sure the room doors lock, how do I know ANYTHING on the premises is secure? We almost decided to just leave and make the long drive back home late at night rather than stay in an unsafe room.
Smelly room. The bathroom smelled of cigarette smoke, strongly enough that when I first entered the room, I wondered aloud "Did they give us a smoking room??" I thought this was a smoke-free property? The musty smell gave me a headache.
Bad service. Upon leaving, when I mentioned the aforementioned issues to the clerk at the front desk, he acted annoyed and inconvenienced, especially about the smoke thing. "Okay well, now we'll have to close down the entire room and fumigate it. And we cant use it." Uh, alright? And how is that my problem? Like, sorry you have to take care of your property? Also didn't act like the lock issue was any big deal. I get that it was probably near the end of his overnight shift but c'mon, at least fake a little concern about the fact that your doors don't work and people are smoking in a non-smoking facility.
LOUD. Paper-thin walls mean you can hear everything going on around you. Could hear constant chatter, and then snoring, from another room. I know the hotel has no control over people snoring, I was just surprised that sound traveled that well. Something to keep in mind if you like quiet. If you are unbothered by noise, this may not be an issue for you.
This is a minor aesthetic gripe but I'm sure I'm not the only person bothered by things like this: just found it odd/creepy that ALL of the light fixtures/lamps in the room were outfitted with "cool" white (bluish-tinted) bulbs. It felt very cold, clinical, and even kind of eerie, not warm and welcoming like a hotel room should be. I've been in medical exam rooms that were cozier. Management: consider switching to "warm" or at least "daylight" colored LEDs/CFLs, as blue light is at best, really unappealing, and at worst, potentially harmful to health. Again, I'm sure this might not matter to most people, but I wish I had known. If you are like me and prefer your room to feel warm and cozy, this might not be the hotel for you.
I will say that the bathroom, besides the stink, was pretty nice and the shower had great water pressure. Bed was comfortable enough, and the lady who assisted us checking in (Brandi, I believe, was her name?) was very warm and friendly, probably the most positive part of the experience. Still, with all the issues, this hotel was not worth the price. Been at less expensive properties with a much more positive guest experience. I...
Read moreWe booked the King suite while on our anniversary trip, and it was the perfect choice. It was like a mini apartment, with how the whole room was set up. We ended up on the 4th floor, which I’m always a sucker for a view. The bed was comfy, and the perfect size! When we arrived to the room it was very warm due to the a/c being unplugged, this was one of the issues we came across. Not sure if they do this to every room, or not.
Unfortunately when arriving, our welcome was less than inviting. The lady running the front didn’t even acknowledge me as I stood there. I came with my husband which came in first, to check in. He came out, and figured he messaged up since he gave his card etc. I was confused if we paid twice, or if there was a issue. When I made myself inside the energy I received was negative, and rude. The lady didn’t say anything as she looked over at me while I stood there for a few. When my husband spoke, I then went to step in. She finally walked over with a attitude like she was going to snap at me. She just stood there, and stared at me funny. It was definitely uncomfortable, but I just walked away from it. Since she only spoke one word to me, which was “that was a reservation.” Umm ok! One of the other things we came across was the water pressure. It was very low, and took forever to fill the tub for a bath. Also, the soap they provide leaves your skin very dry, and seemed to have a sticky feel to it.
Then, latter on that night me, and my husband both tried to call the front MULTIPLE TIMES. At least 4 to 5 times, and no one never picked up our phone calls. After one of the times we called, we went down, and she was there.. she just didn’t answer. Not sure if our room number appears when we call, but I’m now curious. Why? The last thing is, a free full breakfast was listed on the website. When we got up the next day, it was nothing like that at all. Unless oatmeal, cereal, fruit, and little things like that is what you think of. I think that is less than full. Honestly, eggs sausage, bacon comes to mind for us.. not sure why that is being advertised. Either way, that was a big let down!
When check out came the next day, we had another lady running the front this time. Check out was overall better!
I am giving 3 stars because of our encounter, which wasn’t pleasant, and our...
Read moreUpon arriving at the Comfort Inn, the front desk staff didn’t even look up. I approached and greeted the receptionist, who responded, “Give me a moment, I’m entering rooms into the system.” She then asked us to wait.
We sat on a sofa with visible stains, and the carpet also had dirty spots. Eventually, we checked in. The room was spacious and decent, but when I checked the ice bucket, I found candy and candy wrappers inside. I took it to the front desk, and the manager washed it out before handing it back to me.
The next issue occurred at approximately 5:00 AM when the power went out. After waiting for 30 minutes with no updates, we went downstairs. The front desk staff informed us that the outage was due to the weather, but there was no contingency plan for breakfast. Despite breakfast being included in our stay, they didn’t even provide bottled water. I noticed elderly guests in the breakfast area, but no dry food or fruit was offered.
I called around and found that the Hyatt, just 5–7 minutes away, still had power because they had a generator. Since I had a conference to attend and my room at the Comfort Inn was dark with no accommodations, I decided to book a room at the Hyatt. When I went to the front desk to check out, the agent assured me I would receive a full refund. I also reminded her to officially check me out, and she confirmed it was done.
Later, I realized I had left my laptop in the room and returned to retrieve it. While there, I asked the manager about my refund. She stated that the owner had decided not to issue a full refund, citing the power outage as an “act of God.” However, I later learned from locals that most homes in the area have generators due to frequent weather-related outages. I pointed out that even third-world countries have backup power solutions, and the Hyatt next door was fully operational. Eventually, they refunded the remaining nights, but this hotel is a joke. They fail to understand that guests are their business.
The Hyatt Place, on the other hand, provided excellent service. They checked me in early so I could take a shower, have breakfast, and make it to my...
