We were staying in Waikoloa and saw the reviews for this restaurant and decided to give it a shot. Folks, this is an old 1950’s style cinderblock open air golf course cafe with a chewed up concrete floor from metal spiked shoes. Had I just finished a round of golf, I probably wouldn’t have minded. But we drove up with our wives and we were expecting more. The food was, well, golf course quality. Hamburgers, beef dips, chili dogs and others. Check the menu before venturing out. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was just okay.
The view is the driving range and not the course. The waitress was very nice but the food was subpar.
I don’t like giving bad reviews but we were misled by people giving a five rating for this place. It’s obvious to me that the people rating this place at five stars have no idea what a good restaurant is. Thats a rating only Roy’s or KPC should be receiving, not a golf course cafe. Johnny’s Waikoloa is one of those local gems that’s easy to love. Tucked right on the golf course, it’s a cozy, open-air spot that feels relaxed and welcoming — whether you're coming off the green or just in the mood for a great bite.
We’re big fans of their sandwiches — always fresh, flavorful, and generously sized. The bread is toasted just right, and they never skimp on the fillings. Pro tip: always ask about the specials — they’re often creative, seasonal, and seriously delicious.
They also offer a wide selection of beers on tap, with something for every taste — from crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs. It's the perfect place to unwind with a cold drink and a satisfying meal while enjoying the breeze and view.
Johnny’s may be low-key, but it delivers big on quality and comfort. Great service, laid-back vibes, and food that keeps us coming back. Highly recommend for a casual lunch or...
Read moreMy wife and daughter accompanied me to Johnny's for lunch. My wife and I specifically went for corned beef and cabbage on Saint Patrick's day while my daughter, who lives in Hawaii had a braised beef sandwich. The food and service was top notch. Our corned beef came with cabbage of course and small white potatoes, carrots and a green. My daughter's sandwich came with homemade potato chips. It turned out she liked my potatoes better, so I ate her chips and she ate my potatoes and carrots. The chips were perfectly fried and had very little salt. I stopped eating when they were gone. Our waitress brought us a breakfast menu when we were done eating and it looks great. We intend to go back for breakfast before we return home. I hope that we get the same waitress because she...
