This was a terrible stay cut short by the appearance of a cockroach. We had booked back in February to stay July 24-28 and requested a room next to the family we were traveling with at the same time who booked at the same time in February. A week out, the family we were traveling with called to confirm that we'd be getting rooms next to one another and the person they spoke to confirmed. Once we got there, the woman at the front desk said they couldn't confirm that and she didn't know why someone would say that they could, because this is their busy season and this weekend in particular was very busy. This may have been a valid excuse if we booked a week ago, but because we booked in FEBRUARY there was no excuse, this was just a pure lack of planning on the hotel's end, which is just lazy. We were not even on the same floor.
Once we finally got to our room we found the ear plugs provided to drown out the sounds of traffic, because these rooms literally sound like there is a window open the traffic noise is so loud. Also, the overhead light on our room did not work, it flickered before just eventually turning off when you turned it on. As if all this wasn't agitating enough, the hotel has a policy that they will charge you $150 if you leave lights or A/C on while out of your room. That is outrageous. We are paying for a room and it's use and this is such a ridiculous policy of pinching pennies. Also, for those not familiar with the neighborhood like us, it's not a safe neighborhood, which is frustrating when traveling with children.
The final nail in the coffin, however, was that my friend found a cockroach crawling on the wall Friday morning. She tried killing it but it survived and she scooped it into a cup to bring down to the front desk. Front desk seemed utterly unsurprised and just offered her another room, as if cockroaches are only going stay in one room and not also be in other rooms or their kitchens running the complementary breakfast. After speaking with the family we traveled with of this incident we all decided we were not comfortable staying at this hotel any longer. The only saving grace of this hotel is that the young woman working the front desk on Friday morning was very helpful and my husband and I had no issue cancelling the rest of our stay. In all honesty, with all the issues we had, we should have been offered a full refund instead of just for the days we cancelled, but we were not surprised since this hotel can't even afford to allow it's guests to keep their rooms cool while they are gone. I cannot stress enough, find a...

My wife and I decided last minute to drive up to San Francisco for the day and have some fun. Since it was last minute - it was difficult to find open hotel/motels in the area. Those we could find near the city that even got halfway good reviews were in the $300 range, so we started pushing out the borders of our search until we found this Best Western in Hayward for only $80 ($90 after fees and taxes - plus another ~$100 deposit that they refund within 14 days after if there are no problems).
When we called, it was late at night the day before and the woman at the desk was fairly short with us and told us there were no rooms available, but when we checked online there were rooms open - so we made our reservation on the website instead. We got a non-smoking room with a king bed.
When we arrived the next day we were an hour early for check-in time but they quickly accommodated us and didn't make us wait (like some places have in the past). There is a fairly grumpy older woman named Chona who worked there at the front desk (we guessed she was the one who was brief with us on the phone the night before as well), but everyone else who worked there was friendly and polite that we ran into.
The room was very average, but offered everything we wanted and was clean. It had a small fridge, microwave, hairdryer, and TV. The bathroom was small (the door almost hits the toilet when you open it) but clean and completely functional. The air conditioner kept the room chilly and nice. The Wi-Fi was free.
This part of town seemed a bit sketchy, but the hotel is situated in a way that secludes itself in a kind of courtyard, with the buildings facing each other -- so it was easy to forget the rest of town.
For dinner we went to a Mexican restaurant located very close called El Taquito (see other review), and loved it.
For breakfast, they boasted a continental breakfast. My wife and I were expecting donuts and coffee, like many of these places offer, but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to a nice spread of eggs, bacon, sausage, make-your-own waffles, toast, bagels etc. The breakfast was attended by a really friendly woman, who was more than happy to help us with any problems we had or questions.
For the money this place was good, and since my wife and I aren't into anything too posh we will probably look them up again the next time we are in the area - they were a good...
Read moreI stay at this location occasionally but I’ve reached a point where I don’t think I’ll be going back. My patience here was immaculate! The first issue I had was them keeping my deposit for NO reason, after pleading with them I was informed (by the manager) that I was in fact right and was owed a refund so that got sorted out… great. Moving on. I ended up booking with them again (bad decision)… I decided to extend my stay & was told that I needed to switch rooms because some guy would be checking into the one I had later that day (strange being that there were more of the same exact rooms that hadn’t been rented out yet) I said ok grabbed my things & let them switch me. I went on with my day without any issues. The next morning is when things got weird… I made a reservation extending my stay for a 3rd day & then I got a call from the front desk telling me that they cannot extend my stay because apparently the guest that checked in said the room had a bad smoke smell to which I told her I do NOT smoke & that cannot be true. There was absolutely no evidence of any smoking other than this imaginary person saying so & I’m 100% positive no odor was left in the room! After telling her this she threatened to call the police on me because I “didn’t want to leave” as if I threatened her! I didn’t even slightly raise my voice it seemed like she just wanted to kick me out for no good reason. She insisted on calling the police on me so I took my things & left. I’m seriously in disbelief, I felt profiled! I guess this is how BW treats their DIAMOND SELECT MEMBERS! Not to mention I left a cord to my laptop plugged into the wall of room 315 I asked them to check for me before buying a new one they said ok, I NEVER received a call back.. I checked back in with them they told me they’d check again I NEVER got a call back so I went to the front desk & asked about it she assumed they never found anything… I took it upon myself to ask one of the housekeepers since she was cleaning the room it might’ve been in if I could check myself and THERE IT WAS! My cord was there the entire time! Horrible HORRIBLE...
