The hotel itself is quite nice, tho I would not call it a 3-star Hotel, I would call it a two and a half star hotel probably.
The rooms are spacious and many have full kitchenettes and pull-out couches, the furnishings are nice, and there is a good wifi signal, and an elevator which is much appreciated when carrying bags up to the third floor.
My only complaint with this hotel is the lack of friendliness and/ or Hospitality of the desk staff. They seem to always be brusque and impatient, and not very friendly. They also, this time when I checked in, told me that last time I stayed here I smoked in the non-smoking room I had rented, which is quite strange, as I requested a non-smoking room because while I do smoke occasionally, I absolutely don't smoke indoors. They asked me for $100 deposit, which was fine, if a little high for most hotels in this area, but then the brusque desk clerk proceeded to gruffly tell me if there is one speck of cigarette smoke in this room you will not get any of your deposit back. I thought that was a bit much, and a bit rude. Also, and this may seem like a small thing, but it is not to me in the morning- at breakfast, all their half and half creamer cups for coffee are rotten because they do not keep them refrigerated nor on ice. Last time I was here, several months ago, I told the gentleman that they needed to refrigerate the half and half for the coffee, because it is a milk product and will go bad. They apparently ignored that suggestion, as when I opened two of the half and half packets they were solid milk clots, and quite disgusting. I told the gentleman at the desk about it and he seemed quite irritated to have to deal with this problem again, and I may have just identified myself as a quote-unquote troublemaker, because I do not want rotten coffee. I know this is a long review, but I want to convey that the roadway is a perfectly nice hotel, if you can get by the seeming unfriendliness of the desk staff, who, if they are in the hospitality industry, might think about acting a little more hospitable. edit, following morning: Apparently the desk clerk read this review yesterday, as this morning when I got change for laundry he asked if I smoked. I assumed he meant "are you smoking in the room", and I said "no, I told you that yesterday". He proceeded to yell at me and tell me I was "a liar" over and over in a very loud voice because I told him I do not smoke indoors, ever. He also swore at me in a very loud voice, humiliating me in front of other guests. What he doesn't realize that If I did want to smoke indoors, I would have asked for a smoking room, which I did not. as I don't want my clothing or room to smell of smoke. He then threatened to leave "a review" for me. I don't think hotel employees can review guests, in any case, but this simply points more to the lack of hospitality. This review system is designed to give people an informed opinion of a place they are considering staying- this is the first time I've stayed here that Ive had any problems with any staff, and I've stayed here several other times I had to be in Hayward for work. It is still a clean and comfortable hotel, but staff should not take the fact that someone has an opinion about their behavior as an excuse to mistreat them. Since we are Choice Privileges members with this hotel chain, I called the corporate number and discussed this situation with the staff there. They also have my entire choice hotels history, and so see that I am a good customer who has never complained before. They told me that they give the hotel a chance to resolve complaints first, and if the guest is not satisfied, they can leave a formal complaint, though they documented everything I told them. If the gentleman in question apologizes for first jumping to conclusions, and then for name-calling, yelling, and cursing at me, a paying guest, then I will not register a formal complaint. But that treatment from someone in the hospitality industry is...
Read moreDuring my stay I would of said that this place was a good establishment until. On the 23rd the manager calls me tells me my card declined from a transaction that should of taken place 2 weeks before but I did not think anything of it I just asked the manager could I pay him cash. He replied fine so I go retrieve cash. So I was staying there due to my job relocating me out here to California until I find a place. I go to work the next day get back to hotel around 9:30 maybe 9:40 like. I go into my room my bed is not completely made. I still did not think anything of it due to the fact I have been staying here about 3 weeks. So I do my normal eat and get ready to settle down. As soon as I notice my phone is low I head off to charge my phone where the charger has been since I arrived to hotel but it was gone. I still took my time to look around because I was thinking maybe the maids placed it somewhere else even though the charger was behind the dresser. So after not finding I go down stairs and report my belongings gone and ask the manager could he please give one of his workers a call and inquire about my belongings. He replied to me that his workers do not steal and they are gone. So he tried to give me a gas station charger that took my phone down in percentage even more. I went back down stairs asked when will they be in I was informed at 7:30 am. So I came back down around that time just to be told he called and told them to come in at 10 am today I said alright I will just come back then so we can get to the bottom. I come back down at 10:32 am just to give the workers a little time to settle and get organized but then the manager tells me he called and told them they could be off since it was Christmas eve. I informed him that I will just have to get the police involved because it made no since to me why he could not inquire about this item after all I had a PS4 game system with games and controllers in the room along with a laptop. I get police involved and after I start to get ready to head out for work. I get back from work around 9:40 pm did not see anyone by then after the police told me they could not see anything on camera I just let it go because I have other things on my mind like how I do not have my family out here with me since I am looking for a place so my children would not have to stay in a hotel. I go to my room went to sleep because I stayed up all night trying to charge my phone the night before. Once I woke up I go down stairs to pay him more due to we agreed that it was okay for me not to use my card anymore but he calls me on the hotel phone to inform me he is waiting on me to leave so his maids can clean my room like I didn’t have reservations. I go downstairs and I asked so you have booked my room and he said yes. I asked again in disbelief because it is Christmas day and he replies I refuse your service since you wanted to get the police involved yesterday. I still do not have my belongings and I could not find a place until later that day had to walk back to hotel just to get my other vehicle because my job gave me one as well and the manager knew the reason I was staying because I am 2,000 miles away from home some Christmas I have had I really could not even talk to my children on Christmas because I did not want my family to worry and spoil their holiday. This is a day I will never forget and it took everything out of me not to do anything in harems way to him or myself. It is a lot on a person plate when they are in a state alone with no one not even a pet nor friend. I had no one in my corner and this took a lot out of me just to get no justice and not even a sorry for your belongings coming up missing. Nobody was questioned nor fired and this all unheard of. I really would like for someone to get back with me because I am seriously considering finding a lawyer and getting my own justice from somewhere. My whole stay I was nothing but kind until all of...
Read moreQuality of this hotel is overpriced. Paid too much for the quality. Outside appeared better than inside. But I have to say that the staff was friendly and nice. I would have paid less at a motel 6 and gotten better quality room. At least motel 6 remodels their rooms and is cleaner, at least that's been my previous experience there when travelling. The elevator smelled like somebody smoked weed in it. Just not what I expected for what I paid and I had my grandson with me. I've stayed at other Rodeway inns and it was nothing like this one. They could really use some new improvements at this location. Staff is fine, but hotel needs more help with quality of its appearance. Rugs are stained, comforter on bed was stained, bathroom door looked like it came from somewhere else and was attached here, it had to be forced shut to close it and wouldnt swing like a normal door. It was difficult to swing shut. This Rodeway could use some improvements. Not worth what I paid for it. Could have gotten better quality elsewhere but my car was in the shop and I booked the room online while I was at the car shop when told to leave my car there overnight. I figured for the price it was showing online it was probably of quality and I compared it to my last experience with a Rodeway inn I had been to where i actually liked it. I was wrong. More isn't better. Online there were cheaper hotels but I chose this one. So higher prices doesn't actually mean better quality. This hotel seemed or appeared to be West Indian owned or operated and they were very nice here, that much I can say. They did help as much as they could. Oh and don't use vending machine here to get drinks or snacks, way too expensive and will not always accept money to even get anything. Not sure if it's even filled or checked to be rotated out and refreshed. This hotel has the potential for greatness if they can really invest in making the improvements. So 2 stars for the hotel and 5...
