We normally stay at the Disney Resort on the island but it was booked as this was a spur of the moment trip. This hotel is brand new and it was very nice. The room was clean although the grout in the area in front of the sink needed a deep cleaning as it was almost black and the grout under the sink was still the original beige. Not a lot of towels but you can get more at the front desk. So some things to note.. The room was a good size, lots of outlets and USBs for charging. A couple of drawers and a closet with full length mirror on the door. There was a mini fridge but it was more like a cooler and went into some kind of power saving mode so this would not be good to keep fresh milk cold. If you have kids, bring Horizon boxes or get milk from the Starbucks counter in the lobby. There is also a small coffee maker with some coffee, tea bags, etc. There is food available in the lobby but we didn't check that out beyond coffee. The shower was huge and there were pump bottles of Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Lemon Sage conditioner and body wash bolted to the wall. 4 towels only. Our room did not have a tub. Due to COVID, housekeeping only comes weekly so if you're staying less than a week, you won't have housekeeping. The elevator requires your key card to be scanned to access any floor which is great for safety. There is a cool rooftop bar upstairs where there is a hot tub, cool gas fire pits, a couple of cabanas, lots of couches and tables and a very small pool with some covered seating. The air conditioner in the room was terrible. It is on some kind of power saver/motion (not sure which or possibly both?) "feature". Both nights the air shut off completely about 3 am and woke us all up because it got warm fast. The next night i got up and dropped it all the way down to 64 and that seemed to keep it going but we were all tired from being up in the middle of the night. The hotel is located in the Coligny area and it is VERY busy here. Lots of shopping, restaurants, a Piggly Wiggly and public beach access within walking distance. There are two very busy ice cream shops and some live music in the evening and there were a few places to get beer/frozen boozy slushies. The traffic in this area is pretty atrocious so if you're driving to the other end of the island for dinner add some time for traffic. This is not really a tranquil location so if you're looking for that, I would look in another area of the island. I also don't think this is a great location for trips with little kids. Maybe if you had a rental but the hotel is just a hotel. Nice but not very kid oriented but again we are used to staying at the Disney resort here. There are better areas to stay for a nice family vacation or better to rent a condo or a house for that. We had one tween with us so it wasn't that big a deal although there is a new beautiful park across the street that wouldn't be enough for me with littles. The beach is walking distance but it's not a particularly short walk especially with a couple of kids and all your gear. There was free Netflix access on the tv but we didn't use it. The staff was friendly and accommodating and there was sufficient parking. All in all this was a good, albeit different, type of HH stay for us. I think it's more suited to adults or families with teens or older kids in this area personally but it was clean and safe and walkable. Beware of people riding bicycles..they do NOT have the right of way here and are supposed to stop (there are literal yield and stop signs at every crosswalk saying so but no one stops) PLUS the beach bikes that people rent here ride and brake differently than a mountain bike so lots of people don't have great control. Keep your...
Read moreBEWARE THE GHOSTS! My wife and I took a short trip to Hilton Head Island and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard on Pope Avenue, checking in on Friday November 10th and checking-out on Saturday Nov. 11th. While in Hilton Head, we did some shopping and purchased a fairly expensive pair of athletic shoes. Unfortunately, we checked-out of the hotel and inadvertently left the package containing shoes on the floor next to the refrigerator (Room 514). The shoes were in a shoe box, inside a vendor bag, and with the receipt still inside the bag.
We called the hotel immediately when we arrived home Saturday afternoon (1st contact). The attendant informed that they needed to speak with the housekeeping manager when she arrived on Sunday and they would call us back. We did not receive a call by Sunday afternoon, so we called again (2nd contact). This time we were informed that the package had not been seen and the incident was under investigation. The phone attendant suggested we call the hotel manager on Monday morning - which we did, and left a message (3rd contact) again outlining the information above. Surprise - no return call! We then contacted Marriott Corporate via the Bonvoy website (4th contact) to report the incident and received an email response that stated the hotel had been notified and Executive Management from the hotel would contact us directly to address the issue. Surprise - still no follow-up or return call three days later!
We noticed several cameras on the property during our stay and can't help but think that this mystery could be resolved by taking time to review security footage from 11/10 -11/11. However, since Marriott appears to be ignoring the issue, we'll likely never know. Yes - our bad for leaving the shoes behind, but is it too much to expect that if you leave something behind in a Marriott hotel room that it would safely make its way to the lost and found? Is it too much to expect Marriott management to investigate and follow-up with customers regarding missing items?
All we can conclude from this experience is that the Marriott Courtyard on HHI must have ghosts with a penchant for nice tennis shoes. ...
Read moreThe location of this hotel was perfect. Rooms were spotless and in great condition. The gym is huge and they also have a roof top bar. We made our reservations online months ago except when we attached our card, it attached a different card that was also on our account. So we called customer service to update it to a credit card, not the bank card. As we were on our way to the hotel we got a notification that it was almost time for our stay so we got on the app and we noticed the bank card still had not been updated. So as soon as we got to the hotel we once again provided the credit card we wanted the room charged to. They took it and ran it! They charged the credit card for the two night stay. Well om day two we had noticed not only did they charge the credit card, but they charged the bank card also, and was actually charged more than what the credit card was charged. We called the front desk in which they told us to call Marriott and practically said the manager couldn't help us. So then we called Marriott directly and said since the hotel charged both cards that they had to help us. So we calles the hotel directly back again. We were put on hold so the front desk person could speak to the manager. The lady got back on the phone and said that the manager would call us back . Well hours went by, no call. Remind you we are on vacation and have now been double charged for our stay and the money we had for our vacation has been locked up because the hotel nor Marriott want to fix what they did. We called back again and was told they were transfering us to the manager who was still in the office.... no they sent us to their voicemail. I have never had this happen, but find it very unprofessional inconsiderate. They made the mistake and don't want...
