Aloha Suites Waikīkī — Hotel in Honolulu

First off the “state or the art contactless key” which is an app you download and the “key” is supposed to be sent to your smart phone which then allows your phone to be the key is far from state of the art more like a state. We were supposed to arrive on the Friday as was the state of the art key which it didn’t. So first I emailed them informing them the key hadn’t arrived early on the Friday morning and I was told later on to go through my tour operator. Which I did. When we landed in Seattle to get our connecting flight I phoned them. I was told it would be sorted out. Again it was not. So I phoned again and was told my phone was not an international phone. Yes. The phone I was ringing on which is an iPhone 13 with international roaming data as is my wife’s. So to save any hassle I gave him my wife’s phone number. The flight to Hawaii was cancelled last minute and after a night in Seattle we eventually arrived 4pm Saturday afternoon. First off there is no reception nothing there at all. Also the key was still not sent to my wife’s phone so I rang up (again) and spoke to a lady who says she would get the boss to phone me. 30 minutes later nothing so I phoned back and it was 10 ignored calls till someone answered and was told by the boss he can’t do anything while I was on the phone complaining. Another 30 minutes passes and another 10 phone calls and another half an hour a lady turns up with the old fashioned but at least they worked. So 90 minutes sat outside with suitcases, £3,000 cash, passports and driving licences etc. God not knows what would of happened if we arrived at our original time of 8pm Friday night?? I’m guessing a night sleeping in a corridor guarding out possessions. We spoke with other people with the same problem we had too. Anyway. Next the “Penthouse”. Forget every imagine the word penthouse brings up. It should be just enough to survive apartment. Sofa bed in the living room stained from I don’t know what. Kitchen 4 plates, 4 cups, 4 bowls, 4 spoons etc etc you get the gist. The fridge was about the best thing. Nothing fancy but was cold and the freezer froze out I’ve cube trays quickly. The main bedroom no bedside cabinets. No storage draws. A long pole in a recess was the wardrobe which didn’t have enough hangers and a cupboard that’s it. Sheets not changed in the 2 weeks we were there but the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom shower tray was fortunately a couple of feet deep as it would drain properly. So after our 3 showers there was 18 inches of water in it which drained overnight. I booked a room with a bunk bed + queen. $1333 for 7 nights. They send you a code by email to open the key box to get into the room. You don’t go through any receptions. Down stair gate is never locked. Just push it open.

While I was happy with its location and what I got for the price, my other two friends who are older (60-70s) weren’t quite happy with the fact there were no elevator to get to 4th floor. I ended up carrying their suit cases which was 40lbs+ x2 while they didn’t stop complaining about this place for entire 1 week stay.

They complained the room was too small and has no ventilation or had no tables couch or places to take their personal stuff out. No view from balcony. They complained it was dusty. Window screen was literally grey covered by piled up dust. I had to wipe it before I use the bathroom to avoid more complains of my roommates. The location was great. Parked at banyan parking for $150 for 1 week.

No room services entire stay but they provided enough towels and even beach towels. The top bunk bed was too close to AC so I felt cold and dried up by the morning. The ceiling light was literally like 10 inch above my head and it was terribly bright. The lady underneath me complained it’s too dark underneath and there’s no reading lamp.
