My husband and I, along with two grandchildren, recently had a fabulous stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Huntsville West - Research Park, Alabama. Our stay was from March 12 until March 16. ||We are in our 80’s and have traveled through 49 states staying at various lodgings. Usually on these stays there may be a few employees who are exceptional, but this hotel had only outstanding staff. We have never felt more welcomed and cared for. I was impressed when I called the front desk prior tour arrival and spoke with “Shalonda,” who answered my questions in a courteous and informative manner. Our request for a room near the elevator was met. ||Upon our arrival the desk clerk was very friendly and efficient. Our room was perfect. During our stay renovation was being done on the first floor. This large project was being handled without interfering with any guest services. ||Initially we were to leave on March 15, but severe weather was forecast throughout several states and we were uncertain about traveling home. I mentioned this to “Brenda,” and she went out of her way to assure us that we could decide about staying later closer to our departure. We were on the fourth floor and asked to be moved to the first floor due to our limited mobility in case the electricity would go off in the storm. She was most kind and moved us to a first floor room being renovated, but very near completion. Brenda checked on us daily, and we enjoyed our many conversations. ||Usually breakfast buffets are basically the same, but not at this hotel. The food was well prepared and Betty, the hostess, was exceptional!!! She made sure each and every one was taken care of. Betty circulated through the dining area, stopping at tables and greeting each person, offering her help.||When we checked out, we felt like we were leaving friends. This is certainly an exceptional hotel with very dedicated and...
Read moreWe choose to stay at the property because of it's location - close to the family we are visiting. Normally we are 100% satisfied but this time we were a little underwhelmed. Front desk staff were wonderful - we had been placed in a room that was the opposite of what we requested (the furthest room from the elevator and with our mobility issues this was not convenient for us) and what was on our profile (near elevator, upper floor) so the next day were were upgraded to a "suite" that location wise was perfect for our needs, despite the fact that the bed's mattress was very uncomfortable - almost as bad as the 35+year old mattress we have on a seldom used bed at home. The room was clean and the second and third day of our stay our garbage was picked up and towels switched out. By the 4th day we had to ask for washcloths and facial tissues. The room did not get cleaned that day, no garbage was picked up and no clean towels. I guess for the price we pay (despite using rewards points) I had expected better housekeeping service. I know Covid changed everything in that aspect but the prices
keep going up, not just at this hotel but everywhere.
I get that. Breakfast was good as always and the hostesses are always so kind and helpful but they do start putting away food 15 minutes before breakfast is to close so if you are a late sleeper you may miss out. The hotel is quiet, even if your room is near the elevator, and, as I have mentioned before, the front desk staff and breakfast staff are always friendly and accommodating and we will continue to use this hotel until we feel it is no longer the best...
Read moreWe stayed in room 403. King bed. I like a firmer mattress. This one had more of like a pillow top and I've never really liked those because I feel like I can't turn as easy. The pillows looked amazing but they are the ones that sink kinda flat when you lay in them a few minutes. The room has a thermostat and I like to sleep with it cold so I can breathe but I like to wrap up in the comforter. Our room would not get below 71°F. So I don't know if it was a problem. With the air conditioning in that room or if they are all set so you can't get below a certain temperature. The bathroom has a walk in shower. That was nice. No stepping over the side of the tub to get in, and it was plenty big enough to move around in. The room and bathroom were very clean. There was a microwave and a fridge which is always nice to have. They serve a hot breakfast. They had scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, biscuits and gravy, 3 different kinds of bread for toast, cereal, and I'm sure there was a few other things like that there. They also had a pancake machine which I have never seen one. All you have to do is put a plate at the end of the machine and hit the button. The machine pours the batter onto a conveyer belt and cooks the pancake and then it comes out and lands on your plate. They have coffee and a few different...
