We “fled” here from the bugs at a nearby hotel and the super friendly staff here let us go right in at about 9:30 a.m. for no extra charge instead of making us wait for a more traditional check-in time.
The rooms were very nice and decor was modern and comfortable.
There was coffee in the morning in the lobby, which was also very nice.
We had 2 rooms.
The reason I can’t give 5 stars is because one room’s fridge didn’t work. The other room’s A.C. Didn’t work properly. We left about 5 in the afternoon and left the air set to “auto” and 69.. When we came back around 9:30 the room’s thermostat said the room was 77.
The outside temp was about that.
The A.C. Appeared to be running, but it seemed to run and shoot out cool air then after a while the tone of sound it was making would change and it would keep running but spit out warm air - the same as outside temp.
This was while it was set on “auto.”
We sampled all the different settings and couldn’t fix it. We stood next to it waiting as the air would always switch over from cool to warm whatver setting we tried.
I called the front desk and they had nobody on staff to come fix it, but did generously offer to put me in a different room. This was the second hotel room I’d been in in 2 days trying to be comfortable so really didn’t want to pack up and move all my stuff again in my quest to sleep but could not possibly go a second night in a row not sleeping and still drive us home safely the next day.
I switched with a family member across the hall and stuck them in the hotter room. They were tougher about it than me.
In the morning, the room had gotten cool again, refreshingly cool, just like the morning before when we’d arrived and it was cool.
The faulty hotel room’s a.c. thermostat was on the wall not below the window. That was the one that said 77. The room that DID work to cool had a sign on the wall thermostat that said to control the room with the controls on the a.c. below the window. But there wasn’t a temp-regulating function, just high or low and leave it on.
I hope they get the A.C. Problems Worked out. It was comfortable to slightly cool outside when we were having the problem getting the room cool. I don’t know how anyone could be comfortable in that room when it’s hot outside.
We were on the 5th floor. I was racking my brain thinking of how I was going to get sleep and was thinking maybe on a lower floor I could be cooler even with another faulty A.C. just in case it was naturally cooler lower because heat rises. The temperature in the hall on the 5th floor was hot.
Like it seems at all places, they also seemed to lack enough staff. The staff they did was super friendly, and we appreciate them letting us in the...
Read moreI stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Independence, Ohio for roughly 3 weeks from May-June 2021. I was originally going to rate this stay as a 3/5, but Google has 3/5 representing 'Good' and a 2/5 is 'OK.' The rooms were about what you would expect for a 3-star hotel. I had a king-sized bed which was rather comfortable with plenty of pillows. There was a fenced in balcony with wicker furniture, which overlooked the neighboring hotel and a view of Top Golf. The A/C was always on, and the interface panel did not work whatsoever to try and turn it on/off. The lighting in the room was very "yellow" and there were lamps in each corner of the room you'd have to turn on. The pool is currently closed, but the fitness center is open which hosts a few treadmills and some DBs. The staff was very friendly, and were always willing to help out in any way they could! Cleaning services were on an as requested basis, and the one and only time I requested, they were there within 5 minutes. The hotel has a 24/7 market for on the go snacks/drinks, and I recommend trying the Great Lakes Brewing Lake Erie Monster from there. The major downfall of my stay was the hotel's WiFi. Mind you, I have a router right in my room also. As a Marriott Gold member, I get access to the premium enhanced WiFi; however, the speeds were extremely slow. And boy do I mean slow. I talked with the front desk staff about this issue once, and they forwarded me to Deep Blue WiFi, who tried resetting my router and it went from roughly 1.4 Mbps download speeds to 90 Mbps download speeds all but for an hour. After that hour, I went right back to where I was with disconnections occurring every 10-20 minutes and extremely slow speeds. I brought this issue up again to the front desk, and I was forwarded to Deep Blue WiFi once again. This time another agent tried doing something, which somehow only made the WiFi worse. They forwarded it to the engineering team, but I did not see any changes made in the remainder of my stay. I am getting disconnected every ~5 minutes or so, and before I wrote this review I did a speed test and topped out at 0.34 mbps download speeds. I had to work in Cleveland for a few weeks full-time with the military, all while taking two Organic Chemistry classes online for school. Additionally, I have a family back home who I love to FaceTime while i'm away for situations like these. If I did not have a Verizon hotspot with 15 GB/month, I would have been in big trouble. If you are someone who requires reliable/fast WiFi like me for work/educational purposes, I would recommend checking in somewhere else until the issue(s) are addressed here. If you don't require internet, then your stay here will...
Read moreThe Courtyard in Independence is an older generation Courtyard. If I had to guess, it was built in the mid-1990s.||||While it was renovated within the last few years, everything looks and feels old. In short, lipstick on a pig.||||Worse yet, the hotel falsely advertises a bar and bistro that was closed on a weeknight when the hotel was very occupied. No pre-made food or snacks for dinner or breakfast were available in the lobby gift shop that sold junk food and non-alcoholic drinks. The closure of the bar and bistro was never noticed or disclosed on the hotel website or at any point during the booking process on Marriott's website.||||Marriott Bonvoy elite status recognition is nonexistent.||||I was originally given a room on the second floor even though both my reservation and my Bonvoy profile stated a high-floor room away from the elevator. After some back and forth, I was assigned a room on the fifth-floor next to the elevator.||||While the room was refreshed to include accessible electrical and USB outlets as well as big TV with smart TV capabilities, it was still an old room with lipstick on a pig. ||||I had a balcony with a screen door, except the screen was ripped and had huge holes. Also, the balcony was filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned or power-washed in years. ||||The bathroom wash basin and mirror was in the anteroom, not in the bathroom. The fixtures were mismatched; some were stainless steel and others were bronze-colored. The combination shower-bathtub looked original, had the remnants of an adhesive gripping, and just looked worn-down.||||Individual toiletries have been removed in favor of wall-mounted dispensers in the shower that contain shampoo, conditioner and body wash. No lotion, mouthwash, or makeup removal wiped are provided. A single bar of thin soap is provided. That's it. ||||The gym has been updated to include newer Matrix equipment. It's quite nice but very small without adequate space for more than one or two guests to use at any given time.||||There is a small garden with outdoor seating, but this seems to be used as a drinking and smoking lounge. It was covered in cigarettes. With the bar closed, some guests brought outside alcohol into the hotel and drank it outside.||||No newspapers were provided, even though the hotel advertises daily newspapers in the lobby.||||All things considered, I would not stay here again and cannot...
