On July 23, 2021, my family checked into 2 rooms at the Comfort Inn South, 5040 S. East Street, Indianapolis, IN. We have stayed in Comfort Inns several times before and although they are a “no frills” hotel, for the most part, they have been ok. Unfortunately, that was not the case for this stay. The reviews for this hotel were between 3.9 and 4.0 star reviews. I should have dug deeper, instead of trusting the reviews and relying on my previous experience, before booking our rooms. If I had, I would have found more realistic reviews. When we booked the room, we had to pre-pay and considering the time, we felt finding another hotel was not an option. In hindsight, we should have taken our chances and driven on down the interstate and stayed somewhere else.
When we checked in, we were told the elevator was out-of-order and we would have to take the stairs (with all of our luggage) up to one of our rooms on the 3rd floor. My husband later learned that the elevator had been out-of-order for 3 weeks. We were also given a room on the 1st floor. Upon entering that room, we found that the plaster on the ceiling was falling off, there were water stains on the ceiling, the door knob to the bathroom appeared to have been kicked in and was in very bad shape and the bathroom was not clean and the room didn’t appear to have been cleaned, at all. The sheets appeared to have been changed and the TV worked. We awoke the next morning to find that more of the ceiling had fallen off in the entry area of the room, during the night. Fortunately, not over the sleeping area.
Our room on the 3rd floor was in a little better shape, but was not clean! There were long black hairs on the tub walls, the floor was not clean and there was a hair on the sheets when I pulled the covers back.
There was a ball team that was being checked in when we arrived. NOT A LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM. Unfortunately, they (or many of them) shared the 3rd floor with us. They were very loud, slamming doors, playing music in the hall, laying in the hall (seriously), running up and down the hall while yelling, etc. This went on ALL NIGHT LONG, or at least until the very wee hours of the morning. When I left my room around 7:00 a.m. to check-out the breakfast option, they were literally laying in the hall and playing loud music. In addition to all of this, they were constantly using the “F” word as if it were the only word in their vocabulary. Based on their behavior, I did not call the front desk or speak to them about the noise, for fear of provoking a situation that may not end well for my family. I’m serious! I have never stayed in any hotel where I didn’t feel safe. This was a first. We checked out as soon as we could get our things together. We did not stay for breakfast. Breakfast was supposed to be hot, but was only pre-package items and wasn’t worth having, anyway. However, we had stayed in a Comfort Inn the previous week, in Lansing, and it did have a hot breakfast. We do not intend to book rooms with Comfort Inn/Comfort Suites,...
Read moreI called Comfort Inn South Indianapolis on S. East St. and made reservations directly with the person answering the phone, named Pat.
Very nice person.
My wife and I arrived at the hotel on Saturday, Oct 1, 2022 at about 8:30 pm. Pat was the desk clerk at the time and again was super accomodating. He showed me where the luggage carts were, and since I am disabled, he did offer to help me with the cart if I needed, but my wife was there to help. The Disability room was nice and clean. The tub did not have any non-slip applique in it so Pat offered some extra bathmats to put on the bathtub floor to help prevent us from slipping when showering. The Fridge, microwave, and TV worked fine. The bed was comfortable and the HVAC unit worked ok.
Breakfast was ok. I had scrambled eggs and 1 link or stick sausage, plus orange, apple and cranberry juices. The juice was very good. I took a could of mini donut packs to the room with me for a snack one morning.
Overall, it was a good, comfortable place to stay.
However...
The bathtub and toilet faced the wrong way for me, since the grab bars were on my Right and my disability if that my left side has stroke-related paralysis, meaning that the grab bar for the toilet and the ones for the bathtub were useless to me. I brought my own bathtub chair or else I would not have been able to shower. So, their ADA rooms are not very Disability-friendly.
If you notice the picture of the white Toyota Minivan, it was parked right in between the 2 disability parking spaces, blocking 2 disability vehicles from being able to use it. Note that the van did not have a disability tag, and the van did not display any disability placard. I looked. And I took pictures.
I told Pat and 2 other desk attendants about it. Nobody had the minivan towed, as they should have done.
I called the local police, and the person answering the phone said it was on private property so they could not do anything. I imagine if someone was getting killed on private oroperty they would use the private property bit as an excuse to not bother themselves, too?
But anyway, other than the thing about 1 selfish vehicle blocking 2 disability parking spots and the choice of the hotel to ignore it, the hotel was ok.
Therefore; I cannot support a business that will not support disabled people, so we will not stay at that hotel in the future.
So, I give this hotel 2 stars. I would not have given them 2 stars but they were nice and the breakfast was ok, and the room was ok, but if they have disability rooms, they should have real disability rooms and if they have disability parking spaces, they need to enforce their disability parking spaces, so,...
Read moreMy husband and I had a one night stay in September while visiting Indianapolis. We arrived early in hopes of an early check in, but no rooms were available yet. So we decided to go on about our day. Fast forward to 7:30 pm, we arrived back at the hotel before our dinner reservations to find out that there were no clean King suites because they were short a housekeeper. We were shocked. The young lady gave us a double queen room in the meantime and reassured us that she would clean a few king suites her self for the guests and once we return our suite would be available. She also discounted our stay.
So we dropped of our belongings in the room and left for our reservations. We came back to gather our belongings to check in to our suite. We mentioned to the third front desk clerk explaining what transpired earlier and our new room would be available. The previous person had let a note with the key card. I gathered our belongings and my husband took the old key card back while I took our belongings to the other room. When I entered into the room, there was total disbelief. There was a sheet over one cushion of the couch. The bed was poorly made up as if the bed linen was not replaced with clean linen. There was a bar of used hotel soap in the tub as if that person cleaned the tub with the soap. It was terrible. I called my husband and when he got to the room, he was upset. He went back to the front desk and showed him pictures that he had taken of the tackiness and told him to give us back the old room.
Upon checking out the next morning, the second person who mentioned that she would clean the rooms was there and we were not happy and explained to her about what happened. She claims she was shocked, but I don't think so. Then she offered to give us $12,000 points for a free night stay for being inconvenienced since I am a reward member. This incident occurred on 9/23 - 9/24 and stated that she will make sure that it gets done, but today is 10/18/17 and the points still have not been added to my account. I've called at least 4 times since and nothing has been done. My husband and I are very unhappy with this hotel and we won't be staying there again if we ever had to visit...
