I live in another state and travel to Jacksonville weekly. You can't go wrong with any of Starwood's offerings in Jacksonville and I practically live in the Four Points Baymeadows. I had some business in Georgia so stayed at Aloft Jacksonville and have been there twice before. Everything about it is excellent. It's testimony to how well the chain and the staff do their jobs that irrespective of which brand and which hotel you stay at, you'll get the same experience, the only difference will be the building. This particular Aloft is fairly new structurally. the furnishings and environment are very contemporary and everything is run like clockwork. They have the updated Key system so you can use your phone to get in your room (and I believe bypass checkin although I didn't opt to do that this time) but even if you don't use the app, the keys won't lose their charge when placed near magnetic devices which is a pretty big deal. There are two elevators which are fast, the rooms are nice, the walls are sturdy so you won't encounter noise issues, rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and modern appliances and housekeeping is nothing superlative. I'd actually like to call out a few things b/c whether you stay at the Four Points Baymeadows or here, the staff bends over backwards to accommodate you. Your room will not just seem clean but so clean it almost feels overdone (something you can't really appreciate without seeing it). Housekeeping gets in and out of your room unobtrusively and does a thorough job without disturbing any of your items. This last stay my wallet had fallen in the hallway and housekeeping found it - they had called downstairs and i truly regret I can't recall her name, but one of the staff members came running out to my car to stop me from leaving without it.
Think about that for a moment. I walk out of my room and my wallet drops somewhere between my room and the elevator. A staff member finds it, looks at license, calls downstairs, and they have one of the front desk people run out to my car to catch me before I take off which their housekeeping staff brings it down. As an aside, outside of all of my travel cards (yes, I'm an airhead) I had a few hundred dollars in cash all of which was present. They could easily have kept it or any of a hundred other scenarios but instead went out of there way to help me. They refused my tip too even when I said "Please , I can't thank you enough" they responded that they were just doing their jobs.
So far I've stayed at the Sheraton on South side, Aloft southside, Four Points Baymeadows and this aloft. Each has been exemplary and while I've come to expect that level of excellence from Starwood, the whole area's hotels are just run as well as they can.
The last thing I'd mention is the Airport location has a ticker for all the arriving and departing flights, the staff is very well versed on giving directions and the location is such that there's just about EVERYTHING you could want or need within walking distance (or if it's raining or your tired shuttling distance).
I am extremely loyal to the Four Points at Baymeadows and mainly stayed here out of necessity/convenience but they really deserve credit for a job well done. Throw in the fact the room prices are usually dirt cheap, this is definitely the place to stay if you need a room...
Read moreOne of the worst hotel stays I’ve had to deal with. It even continued on for 4 more months after my stay due to the negligence of the hotel manager and assistant manager and quite the frankly front desk staff. I stayed here for a wedding, in a room block. To start, the AC in our room was loud, it kept me up every night, I recorded a video and showed the staff / asked for a room change etc. the response I was given started with laughter after telling me there are no rooms to switch into followed by “well it’s an old unit, 2008, what do you want me to do get some WD40? Every room sounds like that” They must’ve forgot I was in a room block and had been into about 7 other rooms in which the AC did NOT sound like that. It was early in the morning and the staff was laughing and making jokes about my AC complaints. Please see the video below. Next issue: NO RUNNING WATER on the property. There were MULTIPLE DAYS, where the water was NOT working on and off. The first evening it was off we couldn’t bathe or use the restroom and we also couldn’t go to another hotel bc everything was full. The next morning was wedding day, bus is leaving but there’s no water ?? My husband had to be a groomsman in a wedding without showering the night prior and or morning of. Then the water continued to be on and off in the AM for the next two days. Due to these issues, after our stay, I left a voicemail with the manager discussing the rude staff and terrible hotel stay, requesting a partial refund. I also left a voicemail for the assistant manager, Candace. I then got a call back from Candace who told me I would receive a partial refund in 7-10 business days (hahah). Well, fast forward 10 days, 20 days, 3 months, 4 months I NEVER heard from the property again (and still haven’t actually) no refund ever got processed. Despite the COUNTLESS VOICEMAILS and notes left by front desk employees. I opened MULTIPLE service cases which stated I would hear back from the property manager in “5 days”. I did this approximately 5 times with no response from the property. Everyday that I called, the manager AND assistant manager were in “meetings”. That’s fine, that’s why voicemails exist, but they mean nothing if management is IGNORING HANDFULS of voicemails for months on end, which is what this property has been doing to not only me, but other people. I called and asked the front desk employee “Has the manager been out of office for the last month?” employee stated no. I said “is it normal customer service for the manager to ignore handfuls of voicemails for months?” Hoping the obvious answer would be no again right? The front desk employee said “I’m not sure, I’m not one to lie”. This property is a MESS what is going on. Fast forward another few weeks of being ignored, I decided to then take this to the next level, corporate, as it seemed the property was just getting away with ignoring all of their customers and the service cases that are opened against the property. I was able to speak w Rob Theurer from corporate, who actually treated me like a human, noted my complaints, and was able to process me a FULL refund for our stay. Thank you Rob for stepping in and taking care of this awful...
Read moreOy. I'm not sure where to start here. This was not great for me. I was traveling with my fiance and his two teenaged kids, visiting the future in laws. The hotel does look very modern and trendy and cool, but I think in trying to achieve that, they have fallen short with some basic details.
There was not really a good place in the room to store clothing- like shelves, drawers, wall hooks, etc. Also not really a place to hang wet things like towels, swimsuits, etc. Traveling with 4 people in one room we needed more than the whole minimalist aesthetic could provide.
The bathroom had a very cool stall shower, however, the seal on the door did not close properly. After two back to back showers, the floor was completely flooded and water was seeping out of the bathroom floor into the next common area. I reported this to front desk and it seemed like this was a known problem and they suggested turning the shower head towards the wall. They sent someone up to- I think- replace the silicon stripping on the door but it did not help much. We went through loads of towels trying to sop up the floor after each shower...again 4 people! This was less than ideal, as was showering up against the wall. Also no shelves or hooks or anything in the shower stall to put your things so everything you bring in also gets soaked.
The lobby currently is an active construction site. I worked down there multiple mornings on my laptop. Fire alarm went off 3 times and I had to relocate several times to accommodate ladders etc working over me, drilling,. This was not necessarily a HUGE deal but definitely could be a problem if you are trying to do any serious work down there- it's just noisy. The staff working the site were very nice.
I also went to use the lobby bathroom several times while working down there and the toilets were NEVER working. 3 gross stalls each time.
Site advertised complimentary breakfast, this is false. You have to buy breakfast.
We went in the pool one day but I'm not even sure if it is maintained or cleaned. I did not see anyone on any of my days down there cleaning it or tending to it so I'm not sure. I feel like swim at your own risk.
One morning in the lobby I heard a very rude exchange taking place over the phone between the lobby attendant and a perspective customer. The lobby person was actually yelling at the customer and might have even hung up on them. This just added to an already sub par experience. In this day and age where people have so many choices (Air bnb, VRBO, etc), you should be doing all you can to KEEP people coming back not repelling them with bad customer service.
My future father in law paid for this hotel so I was disappointed he spent his money on this spot. I would not recommend in the...
