Not as advertised.
We booked a room with 2 Queen beds intending to sleep 4 people. The room we got had 2 Double beds instead of queens. We double checked and measured them (they were 53" wide - a Queen bed should be 60"). When we asked the front desk if there had been a mistake, they immediately both said that those were indeed Queen beds, Queen beds are all 53" (not true) and that all of their Queen rooms had beds that size so there was nothing they could do. It was a very automatic, rehearsed answer which makes me think they get this complaint often. Meaning none of their beds are the sizes they advertise. So book at your own risk for that.
The hotel itself is old. The rooms basically only look nice on the sides with the bed (aka the side they use for pictures on the website). The kitchenette area, closet and bathroom were all extremely dated. Some of our room lights didn't work, and the safe in our room was not functional so we couldn't lock up our passports or valuables.
The bathroom had no counter space at all, just the sink. So there was nowhere to leave toothbrushes or toiletry bags. There was no fan in the bathroom, so it got very foggy and stuffy when you showered.
They advertise having air conditioning, but it is a box unit in the window. At night if you want to close your curtains to sleep, it blocks the A/C entirely which can make it stifling. So you have to choose between being woken up early by the sun or being cool enough to sleep.
Parking was a nightmare. They advertise "free on-site parking". What they don't tell you is that they only have about 10 spots total in the lot. When the lot is full (which is always), they direct guests to a parking garage several blocks away that charges $28 USD per day. We paid nearly $60 USD ($83 Canadian!) that we had not budgeted for just to park for the weekend.
They also mandate a $250 security deposit from every booking which they don't tell you until you arrive. I've never been to a hotel that has this policy before.
While none of us had accessibility issues, I can say for a fact that this place is not wheelchair accessible whatsoever which I believe is illegal under the ADA? Either way very disappointing to see.
Breakfast was fine. Tasty enough, mostly just filler food to get through the day. Free as advertised but the dining area was very small, crowded and hot, so plan to arrive early if you want to sit down with your food.
Pretty much the only good thing is the location. The hotel is very centrally located to a subway station that takes you into NYC. Only about a 5 minute walk to the station.
Overall it's cheaper than staying in NYC, but I'm sure you can find much better in NJ. Or at least a hotel that will give you the size of bed that...
Read moreLiterally THE WORST HOTEL I’ve ever stayed at!!!!!!! I’d rather sleep in my car than stay here ever again. From day one it was a bad experience. There’s no where to park your car to unload your belongings and bring them into the hotel. You have to park your car a block away in a parking lot that you have to pay for, it’s not included with your stay. The hotel is literally in the middle of a residential neighborhood, it’s literally someone’s house on both sides of the hotel. Then they have the audacity to request a $250 deposit to hold in case of any damages to the room or smoking; But the rooms have wall paper from 1950’s that are peeling, the shower barely works, the toilet looks like it was built for a prisoner, the elevators are outdated and only fit two maybe three people at a time inside, you have to say a pray everytime you enter one. Also one morning someone came around knocking on the doors demanding we leave the doors open so they can change the locks. I guess they were updating the entire 3rd floor of all the room locks. The one guy knocked on our door while I was in the shower, my girlfriend answered and he put his foot inside the room to prevent her from shutting the door, And demanded that she leave the door open, He didn’t even announce himself Or state his position or purpose. My girlfriend had to demand him to tell her the reason for leaving the door open. We left the hotel while they were changing the locks and no one supervised the 3rd floor while all of our belongings were inside our room that was wide open for anyone to steal anything if they pleased; we felt very uncomfortable with the idea of leaving our room door open unattended with all our personal belongings. We left to go and grab some lunch, and when we returned we discovered that our original hotel key card did not work with the new locks that were just installed. The man at the front desk acknowledged us but did not notify us of needing a new key card; hey just watched us walk by, knowing we needed one, so we had to go all the way back down stairs again and get new ones made. Then we left again at night And then returned later to find out that our new key cards we received weren’t compatible with the front door to the hotel. So we were locked out of the hotel for about 15-20 mins banging on the front door until someone finally came to allow us in. Which the night shift lady that let us in was very rude and told us that if we didn’t like the stay there then we could check out and leave. Next time I will be paying extra money then staying at this location. It’s a dump! It’s not...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here this past week for work. We had a room for us and another employee. The website screams false advertising. The rooms were nothing like what is advertised, and the website says they offer free on-site parking, yet they charged us over $85 to park in their tiny lot. We were only allowed to park 1 vehicle in the lot and had to park our company van on the street. We were charged a $250.00 deposit fee, which is the highest we have ever been charged at a hotel, and we have stayed at really nice hotels. The elevator only fit 2 people, and we prayed every time we got on it. The room was filthy and a fire hazard. There was a used bandaid on the floor by the bed and hairs all over the bathroom floor and in the tub. The room was hot because the ac didn't work properly. The microwave smelled horrible and had burn spots and exposed metal inside. They only offered real cups and not plastic sealed cups like other hotels. There were missing baseboards, and the plugs had no covers, so wires were exposed. There was a plug with a broken piece of metal stuck inside it. We couldn't plug up our phones or computer to charge them because the plugs were loose. The smoke detector was really old and stained dark yellow. When we pulled the curtains closed, we were scared they would fall due to not being securely attached to the ceiling. The wall in the bathroom by the tub was damaged due to water. The shower walls were moldy. The closet door was coming off the hinges. The room had a mold smell. Our pillows fell behind the headboard, which worried us because the plugs behind the bed had exposed wires. I spent my first day there cleaning, so we felt ok showering. My husband got off work really late, so one night our dinner was from their snack area. He was charged $21.00 for a candy bar, 2 waters, 3 tiny bags of chips, and some peanuts. The cleaning lady tried to use her key to enter our room even though the do not disturb sign was on the door. I was in the room. She then left a note in our door saying she had tried to clean, but we wouldn't let her. It said we had to contact the front desk by the next day to let them in. The room wasn't clean when we got it and I didn't want to clean it again after her. The room was left cleaner than when we got it. After seeing how dirty the room was, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat breakfast. It was so bad we left a day early. We weren't refunded the parking charge even though we left early. I wouldn't...
