NOT HAPPY.....DON'T STAY HERE!!!!---Do yourself a favor---FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY!! Don't stay here if you want a good vacation!! this place is just concerned about getting money and not providing a great service. I have stayed at many resorts and am very dissatisfied with this place and didn't feel safe, and I would tell you if you are considering this place, steer away from it. Where do I start-???
First with the concierge- I went there on a vacation with my parents and we thought we would book a nice boat trip and concierge person, Marissa, told us the Napali coast tour was a good one and it sounded like so much fun. My mom who is in her 80's decided she would go too. Marissa told us what to bring and asked for our credit card....she never mentioned that people with certain conditions can not go on the boat trip and when we looked at the ticket at night, that is when we noticed that people with certain conditions shouldn't go on the boat ride.... we read in small print, that people with pacemakers, bad back, bad neck spine issues, people that have recently had surgeries shouldn't go on the boat... and nothing of the sort was ever mentioned when we paid, and everything was done in a hurry, and give me your credit card, and let's get this booked for you! And when we tried to speak to someone they were gone for the day. Their hours are awful at the concierge!!!...they come in around 9am or later.....and leave at 2pm so if you need to speak to anyone after 2pm, you are out of luck.....so that is when we decided, let's try calling the actual company who it's booked though, Kauai Sea Tours, who I am also not happy with and I will tell you right now....DO not do business with them either!!! We tried to call them as well but they don't pick up their phone and you can't leave a message and so when we spoke to them in person about the issue....the lady just said...no refunds. Sorry no refunds.... No refunds???? Would you like to hear my story even? of course, you don't because you have been trained to just tell everyone, " No Refunds". Why don't these companies care about peoples well being? If my mom would have gone on this boat trip and hurt herself because you didn't mention the warnings in advance...would we be talking in court? This was just a common example of greed and getting the almighty dollar and not worrying about the safety of others.... Shame on you Sheraton Kauai Resort and Shame on you Kauai Sea Tours!! By the way, we did speak to a manager--and when we spoke to the manager she just said that from now on they were going to make sure that the people working at the concierge would mention to people about health conditions before booking so obviously they know now that is something they should be doing!!
BE CAREFUL AT THE POOL AREA, STRANGE PEOPLE THAT AREN'T STAYING THERE, COME TO HANG OUT!! At the Pool area, we met a crazy guy in the jacuzzi who said he was a local and that he comes to this resort to hangout and surf. He said he was looking for a new wife. He said his surf board was stolen and to be careful because there is a lot of people getting things stolen when they go to the beach. He wanted to know if we were coming back the next night and this is when we just walked away....
No Ice machine- you have to go to the valet and they give you a little bag of ice. I am thinking this is because they might have bums hanging around their location to try to get free ice so probably they took the ice machines away.
Took a ukulele course that was on the property-- the teacher seemed rude, no patience and short with us when we asked questions, and we were trying to play..... it was uncomfortable for us. This was a beginners class and we have never played a ukulele so not sure if they have the right instructor for this class.
I wish I would have taken my parents to a better place so we wouldn't have...
Read moreAs a lifetime elite Titanium Bonvoy Member- who just returned from a special wedding anniversary week at the Sheraton Kaua’i - our stay was a huge disappointment which is u fortunate as it was for an important anniversary. |There are numerous Bonvoy properties on Kauai- and we chose The Sheraton Kauai Resort for its direct location on the beach. What is sad is that it is an excellent location — BUT has not been updated, does not have the staff needed, and does not speak to the beauty of Hawaii or the caliber of Bonvoy’s other hotels.||In a nut shell-||Upon our late evening 9:00 PM arrival after a long flight- we were told when we checked in that the only place we could get a soda was from a vending machine hidden behind the pool area in the complex across the street from the building where our room was located. Literally- a 1975 vending machine. We walked along a pathways in the dark and finally found the tired 1975 vending machine. Then crossed back across the street to our room. This should have been a clue.||The next day we headed to the restaurant for breakfast. There is no lounge at this hotel, but we were told that the continental breakfast was included as we are elite members. We have experienced the standard continental breakfast at their hotels all over the world- BUT this was a new low. We were allowed to order one of five breakfasts on the menu. All very odd food combinations. No substitutions- no change of combinations- the only protein offered was a cold tiny 2” diameter egg Frittata which was served with pineapple slices- no toast- no muffin- no croissant- we asked! We were told that if we wanted a croissant or toast , we would have to pay for that off the menu. The “cereal option breakfast” did however come with a small croissant—-(2 Carbs together??) so we chose that and fed the birds the dry cereal. Needless to say- we went out for breakfast from then on.||The nicer of the two pool areas is small and cramped- think 1970s swimming pool surrounded by lounge chairs - near the beach(you can hear the beach) and by the breakfast restaurant. You can rent a red circus “bungalow” tent for the day- behind the pool even further from the beach for $225 a day! Or a hooded wood chair where you can actually see the beach for $75 a day. No thank you.||The hotel is divided in half by a road - one side of the road is on the beach and the other building (with Kitchenettes) is not. The beach side building lobby (the more pricy rooms) never had anyone at the front desk for SIX days! Seriously- no greeter- no “how can we help you”- no concierge… just two empty desks! I actually went into a “welcome center” down the hall from the unmanned lobby to ask for a local map and the three individuals at desks eating cinnamon rolls (never saw them for breakfast!) told me to go across the street to the concierge over there. I then suggested that they either get a stack of local maps from the numerous free maps around town if Sheraton could not provide any information at the “welcome center” in the building on the beach.||Oh- I have a long list of shortcomings but no need to go further.|All in all- it was a hug disappointment. ||We have been to Hawaii three times before- different islands. Always stayed at Bonvoys. We wrongfully assumed that this Sheraton resort would be the same caliber of other places we have stayed. We LOVE Bonvoy properties. (We even had lunch before flying out at a restaurant (Dukes) at a beautiful Marriott in Lihui.)|But this Sheraton is not what we have grown to expect after decades of Marriott/ Bonvoy stays. It may have been decades ago- but no longer.||What is really sad is that it COULD be! The location is incredible and the rooms in the second building are right on the water. But that is where the “good...
Read moreWe visited the Sheraton Kauai Resort for our 30th wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, were fairly disappointed in the hotel. The rooms are just OK and the hotel is very dated, other than the reception area and open air lobby. They don't ever seem to have enough people at the check in desk, although the person who checked us in on Thursday night was very lovely and friendly. Other times we had to go to the front desk there were long lines as they only had one person working.
One person who stood out for us was Michael, one of the bellman. He reminded us af a mature Lou Diamond Phillips, so we called him Lou the entire stay and he was very good-natured about it. He was great about recommending breakfast and lunch places (Pukas, Brennekes, Wood FIre Pizza) and other places of interest (Poipu Beach at sunset to see the seals and turtles!). Lou was definitely the most helpful person we encountered at the Sheraton!
We used their concierge to book a number of activities (one almost every day we visited - a total of 8 days), and they did a great job initially, but since the weather was cloudy/rainy many of the days, when we asked them to switch things around, they were not good at following up and communicating with us. I was so frustrated that I asked to speak to the concierge manager, "J" for short, and she basically said that our account was updated with lots of notes and our changes were the reason for the issues. I would not recommend using them, especially if you think you might make any changes to your itinerary. They did book us for an ATV tour (it was rainy and fairly cool that day, but we went anyway), golf at Poipu Bay (our tee time was changed to the correct day, but our friends tee times wasn't changed; luckily I called the resort and figured that out and had it changed myself), ziplining (which had to be cancelled due to the weather issues), a catamaran/scuba 5 hour trip ( Holo Holo charters - Great crew and captain, great views of the Napali coast, but the snorkeling was the worst I've ever done - very few fish, lots of rocks, no color, very disappointing). They also helped us book multiple dinner reservations, which our friend researched and selected, and I would highly recommend Beach House, Keoki's and Tidepools. The restaurants at the Sheraton Kauai were not great, at least the one option open during our stay. Lava's is great for poolside drinks, but their dinner entrees were not good (the chicken kung pao was like eating petrified chunks of burned chicken and the burger comes with a strange tasting sauce). Rumfire was closed our entire visit. The coffee shop was the culinary highlight, and the staff there is wonderful!
We visited two other resorts nearby during our stay, and i would recommend considering them if you visit. The Hyatt is BEAUTIFUL, so if your budget can afford it, stay there. The other less expensive option would be the Koloa resort - great spa, beautiful pool and great food! They don't have beach access, and we didn't see a room, but what we did see left us impressed...
