We were disappointed with our stay here.
The room was mostly fine, although worth noting that if you’re staying in a Studio King, then they are all connecting, which means you can hear everything going on in your neighbor’s room. We had to move from our first one cause they had a loudly crying baby, the second one was still loud but at least everyone went to bed at a normal time.
Strict rule on no late checkouts for anyone, no matter status or availability, checkout is at 10AM (early!!) and they have supposedly “hospitality suites” you can shower in before leaving for your flight after checking out, but the wait is over an hour so not really functional.
(Also had multiple little bugs in our bed. Sort of gross, but it is an island, so what are you going to do! They thankfully weren’t bedbugs or cockroaches or anything bad like that)
Main complaint was just that the resort was disappointing. I figure that’s what you’re mainly paying for, location and amenities. Food at Lava for breakfast was not good (and expensive) so we had to go offsite for all our meals (which weren’t cheaper but at least were good). Hard to get shaded seats by the pool as there aren’t enough umbrellas.
The beaches by the hotel were sooo jam packed with people, if you’re the type that is going to Kauai instead of Oahu to avoid crowds then you’ll need to leave the resort to go north to get to less crowded beaches. Also the beaches at the resort are so narrow that the water goes up to the vegetation and you can’t just chill and read on the beach.
So we ended up spending not that much time on the property since we didn’t really like the resort or the nearby beaches.
I think if you have kids, then you might like the beach more (sooo many kids playing in the waves, looked pretty fun and hopefully safety in numbers cause the waves were rough with no lifeguard!).
Also, side note but the landscapers trap chickens in catch-and-release cages to keep them off the property (which seems reasonable) but they don’t check them often so the poor little chicken was in there for hours and hours with no water in the peak heat of the day! I tried to tell the front desk that they needed to notify someone to get the chicken out and got ignored (I think they didn’t even understand why I would be concerned about the welfare of...
Read moreAfter a great experience with the Maui Sheraton, staying at the Kauai Resort Villas was such a disappointment. When we checked in, we were told our room was given to someone else and asked to take a room with ADA accommodations. The desk clerk offered a meal credit at our request and told us to contact a manager if anything else came up. This is also where we learned that if you book a villa, you sign up for a lesser level of service. They told us the villas are time share properties so even if something drastic happens, they can almost never upgrade your room or comp a night. Unfortunately, things got worse from there. Our shower had two shampoos, an empty conditioner bottle, and no body wash. Long story short, the first manager refilled the toiletries and said there’s nothing us they could do. The second manager told us the front desk clerk lied, that they didn’t actually give our room to someone else, and then lectured me on the downsides of booking a villa. She offered more dining credits but we wanted to escape the service they were offering and requested a comped night instead. She said she’d get back to me about that the next day but didn’t. I heard two days later that our request was denied but they gave us more dining credits. The dining credits would have been nice if the restaurant service was any better but it wasn’t. Rum Fire is only open for dinner service Thursday-Sunday. One morning at Lava’s, with the restaurant mostly empty, it took 45 minutes to get seated and get food. Even once we had our food, we had to flag down our server to get even a coffee refill. Bottom line: the rooms were fine and clean, this hotel is truly right on the beach, and the pool is fine. However, the service ruined our stay. I would recommend...
Read moreWe stayed here for our family vacation and everything was amazing! Our room was big and spacious, and seriously loved the beds. Had the best sleep probably in my entire life. The pool over at the resort was where we spent a lot of time. The beach nearby Kiahuna is so much fun to bodyboard, duck under and over waves and swim! Lots of surfers and swimmers and the water is like bath water, with really clear blue / green hues and the softest sandy beach. Also nearby are Poipu and Brennekes beach. We got to see the sea turtles come to shore promptly at 3pm one day and it was the most magical sighting. We were simply playing in the water and then just like that, the lifeguard makes an announcement to clear the way as law says you must stay 100 feet away from them, and they came up to shore one by one. So amazing!!! We saw at least 3 of them come fully to shore. We ate at Lavas on property every day whether it be a libation or a snack or breakfast. OMG their classic breakfast is the best, the potatoes were super crisp and they just knew how to make the best over easy eggs. Our servers Ben and Shy were very sweet! We went to Rum Fire also on property and it was excellent. If you want something quick or a snack or coffee, stop by their cafe. Was really impressed with everything. Our family too evening walks to catch the sunset was...
