The hotel itself is beautiful; the staff is friendly and helpful. I booked a suite for a very personal overnight (family member death anniversary). Unfortunately, the pictures and description promise luxury, and I was disappointed when seeing the room in person, especially for the price. I did kindly mention some of my concerns to the staff working at the front desk when checking out, but it should be addressed. I’ve been coming to KPT and GRB for the last thirty-two years and stayed at most of the local hotels, some of which are part of this resort chain (Boathouse is usually my go to).
The carpet was in need of some serious TLC as was the fabric ottoman in the middle of the room. Both had varying stains and areas of discoloration. I didn't even want to put clothes on the ottoman... It looked nasty and just didn’t feel clean. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and along some of the windows (not a huge deal but still). The TV clicker didn’t really work, had dirt/grime embedded between the buttons and was stuck on one channel, unless you pressed insanely hard on the number buttons to change it. Not that the priority was TV but still frustrating. I totally understand it’s an old building, but you should feel like you’re in a clean, well-maintained room. The sheets and bedding were great, but the bed itself felt worn in and dipped a bit in the middle, which isn’t ideal for two people sharing a bed. We tossed and turned quite a bit. The headboard at the base of the bed was visibly loose. Not a huge issue but not something that should be wobbly in an expensive suite.
We didn’t get to use our $50 dining credit, which was disappointing, as it's not applicable outside of your stay.
I would stay there again but not the suite. I hope some of these improvements can be addressed, and maybe some more extensive TLC can be done more regularly. It’s a beautiful building and deserves to reflect that...
Read moreWanted to take my wife away for her birthday. We arrived in the afternoon, waited 30 minutes to be checked in. There was only one person at the front desk checking people in. The poor guy was literally running from the front desk to the rooms to make sure the rooms were cleaned and ready for guests. In between checking in guests, he was answering the phone getting chewed out by (im assuming guests) because most of what he was saying was...."i understand" and "i'm so sorry for that". Finally we got checked in and went to the room. It was a king size bed with just enough room to squeeze by to get to the bathroom. The carpets smelled of mold, the A/C unit sounded like an 18 wheeler truck. The shower was moldy. they had some sort of 3-bottle dispenser of soap and shampoo attached to the wall, which was covered in mold. The shower handle was ready to fall off... I can get a cleaner room at a Hampton inn, for half the price.
Summary: The pics of the rooms arent what they seem. "The Burleigh" restaurant is a bunch of picnic tables with paper plates and plastic cups. "Club Cummings" is an outdoor patio with entertainers in "drag". Definitely not worth the money. Make a reservation at a Hampton Inn, then spend the day at...
Read moreWe stayed at the Inn for three nights in July. We had two rooms on the Dock Square side of the Inn. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We did not mind the "older feel" of the Inn. However, I am hopeful they will update the plugs, bathrooms, and other small items like better lamps and lighting. Our TV area had a ton of extension cords that worried me a little about a fire hazard. The other part of the Inn is updated, and it would be in their interest to do that in this part. The bathrooms are VERY outdated and old.
Outside of that, we all loved it so much. The location was perfect; we loved letting our teens run around without worry. We loved having a cocktail every night down at the bar. A big shout-out to Stacey. She was amazing and stayed open a little late when she saw us coming in from dinner so we could have a drink. The staff was always able to help and point you in any direction.
We never ate breakfast because it seemed a little lacking, but we loved the little coffee house down the street and got breakfast there in the mornings. We loved the bikes and being able to go to the other properties. We biked to one of the properties for the kids to use the pool. Super fun and easy.
I would stay here...
