We intended to stay at KLK for 8 nights, we ended up leaving early due to a few issues that we related to management and they are working on.
First, the good, our site, #70 was great! Very easy to park our 33ft trailer, tons of room for our truck, kayaks, bikes, cooking area, etc. the covered dock was a great spot to enjoy the water. We had manatees in the canal in the afternoons! The hook ups were easy to access and we had no issues with the water, electric or sewer services.
The location is very convenient to Pennekamp State Park. We launched our kayaks from our site and paddled all over the state park and mangroves. What a great experience!
Now the not so good-this park is primarily occupied by park model and trailers that are individually owned. Some are in great condition, others are falling apart. As the campground operates as a condominium association, there is really no way for management to control what an owner does with their site. Some owners rent their lots, either for trailers or as a vrbo/airbnb for their tiny home/park model.
As each is individually owned, the amenities vary greatly. In the RV sites, there is no WiFi, some Of the tiny homes/park models have WiFi. Not a big deal as they have a lounge with great WiFi. Our problem was that we were asked by a resident to leave the lounge as we were not owners. So, no WiFi. We work on the road, so WiFi is needed. We were fine with going to the lounge to work, management was very apologetic that we were asked to leave and assured us we are allowed in the lounge and the resident was wrong for asking us to leave.
The other issue that ultimately caused us to leave was a very rude resident. While walking out dog we were yelled at by the resident in one of the homes in the area of lot 45 -50. She scolded us for allowing our dog to do her “business” near her home. We are very responsible dog owners and clean up after our do. While removing the “business”she would not let up scolding us for allowing our dog near her lot. For the rest of our stay she stood in her door watching us as we passed by walking the dog.
The manager has been on site only a few months. She is very aware of the issues we experienced and many other problems and is trying to make improvements. It will be a slow process as the condo assoc board runs the place. The managers hands are somewhat tied.
We would return to KLK for an overnight stay while traveling, but not an extended stay. There is so much potential at KLK if the owners/condo board will allow the manager to make changes that benefit the owners/residents and the short term vacationer. We will continue to watch this place and hope it becomes...
Read moreNot what their website portrays. Very deceptive & money hungry. We are seasoned campers from FL & thought we'd try this campground after viewing it online & calling them prior. Although the RV campsites are roomy, we knew we made a mistake. The pool was 90 degrees & the people who were in it from up North said they could hardly stand to be in it for more than a few minutes & the husband said it was gross & wouldn't go in. Besides the heat, I noticed mold & chipping on the bottom of the pool. When we originally called we were told they had horseshoes , shuffleboard, basketball & and a beach. Well, she (Peggy) failed to mention that the shuffleboard had weeds growing in the cracks & water puddles, looking as if they hadn't been played on in years. She also failed to mention that the basketball hoop was broken and that we weren't allowed to use it for fear it would fall on us. The supposed horseshoe pit was a complete joke being that it wasn't there at all or they had the filthy, pathetic, rotted wood beanbag toss in its place. Furthermore, they fail to tell you that everything requires a $20 deposit, from getting a ball to play with to leaving the premises after 11. If you want a cable box, it's $40. They show a dog online at a campsite with its owners, but don't mention that the weight limit is 40 pounds anywhere on the website. Deceptively, they keep calling their "swimming area" on the Atlantic a beach, but when you get here and actually view it, there's a crocodile warning sign!!! It's a nasty, swampy area among the mangroves. This leaves absolutely nowhere to cool off and nowhere to swim & basically nothing to do unless you have other plans to leave daily and snorkel or fish elsewhere, which defeats the purpose for families with children like us. To make matters worse, after we kindly, but firmly voiced our feelings, this campground refused to give us a refund even though she signed off on a receipt that we physically left the next day. This was the first time we've ever had to do this. We paid for 1 night & will fight to get the rest. We went further south to Jolly Roger Campground, who I would highly recommend. By the way, Jolly Rover Campground strives to keep their campers happy & say they give refunds if need be. Regardless though, fulfillment of contract is key regardless. Deliver what you say you're going to deliver or describe what you have. Be honest & don't hold campers hostage. Live & learn. Don't camp here unless you don't have any interest in going in a pool or the gulf while...
Read moreThis is the fourth time we are visiting, it's now our annual summer vacation. The campground offers everything you need for a great time. The staff is always helpful and friendly, they do everything in their power to keep this place as wonderful as it is. The front desk staff is amazing- I'd like to mention Danielle in particular: She is professional, kind, understanding, helpful, and caring. Her persona and positive attitude is what reminded me today that I still haven't written a review for this place yet. It's like coming to your home away from home.
I want to add a few things after reading through some of the reviews from other visitors. A common complaint seems to be the bathrooms. They are old, yes. But they are being kept clean and stocked with soap, towels, and toilet paper. People take a shower after being out at the park, the beach or other activities, leaving dirty water splatters. I do not expect the staff to rush into the facilities after each person to clean up a mess that person could've cleaned up themselves. A little courtesy and looking out for others would help tremendously in keeping the bathrooms neat. As for them being outdated: The (new) owner/manager is in the process of remodeling the bathrooms. That takes time and funds, as well as closing one of their bathhouses down, which will trigger new complaints of only one bathroom being available. Staff is driving around the campground until midnight, bathrooms are being cleaned multiple times a day, trash is being picked up whenever spotted at the lot. Another complaint I noticed a few times is the wildlife/bugs/mosquitos. Let's be real for a second. This is a campground. Surrounded by water and mangroves. I go "camping" to be close to nature. The staff is doing their best to keep mosquitoes and gnats at bay, spraying the area on a regular basis, as much as they can without harming nature, us visitors, our kids and pets. Leaving bad reviews because of bugs whole camping as close to nature as possible is a level of ignorant I wasn't expecting to read. We really love this place, we do not own a lot nor are we members of the community. We are annual visitors and never ran into any problems. Please take a second to appreciate everything that is done by the hard working staff and don't make other people's ignorance a reflection of the staff's values...
