I don't write reviews often, so take this as Biblical. We made a last minute trip and went directly to the Killington website to find a room. I presume that Killington properties right near the mountain would all be solid. Not so.
Let's hit the pros first. The location is great. It's a 2 minute drive from the mountain. The pool is warm. It's very nice. There is a solid hot tub right next to the pool, and that is good. It was quiet overall, and there was nothing that made me want to leave in the middle of the night, like roaches, or crime, or racoons crawling in through the windows. There is a little bar in the hotel, which we did not use, but it looked good enough and like it served alcohol.
OK, now the cons, so you know what to expect. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. It was a 20 year old spring mattress. And I'm not that sensitive to stuff, but the place is very outdated. You can see cracks in the sheetrock in the rooms, and the building as a whole needs a complete renovation / remodel. Clearly, it's an absolute cash-cow for the owners, who are not putting much into it. I can be fine with that, so long as the bed is comfortable, but it was not. The soap they provide is measly, and the hot water in the shower is very hard to control.
I have no input on the staff, they were fine. I am sure they have a hard job working in a hotel that is basically from the 80's and probably surprises a lot of folks.
To be honest, I would not stay there again unless I had to. It was uninspiring at best (except the pool of course), and kinda bad at worst. Have no high expectations except for location and the...
Read moreThe rooms are pretty much run of the mill two beds and some space. Everything was clean, and the towels, pillows and all of the linen were upgraded and better than expected. But this place shines in two major ways. First, the management. We work directly with management to make the reservation and they were very thankful. They gave us a great rate, more importantly when I was a bad storm and we were stuck, they allowed us to come a couple days later without any penalty. That was above and beyond what they needed to do. And there's in my opinion a big difference between someone who does something, and someone who does it in a pleasant and understanding way. The warmth of the management really shown through and I felt more of a family guest than someone renting a room. The other big plus of this place is that they are literally across the street and down the block a little bit from the Killington Grand. In other words, they are in the middle of all the action. Short walk to a great restaurant called Still on the Mountain, and they have their own shuttle that goes back and forth every 15 minutes. It's a easy, no stress way to get from the room to the slopes and back again. One last thing, they have a indoor heated pool and jacuzzi. There seems to be a lot of excitement over outdoor pools. And they do have their charm, but after a long day on the slopes in some freezing weather, 🥶 I kind of like a warm room above my hot water jacuzzi 😊. Given all this, and given the holiday season, I believe that rates were more than fair. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay close to the action...
Read moreTo start, Cascades Inn is dated. Just about everything there screams 1980s and 1990s. In our room, there was a tube TV and the telephone was “old school” - a large phone with a big red light on top. And there was a funky smell throughout. I would not say it was a bad smell, it was just a smell. None of these things were deal killers for us. In fact, we had a great stay. But I felt that it is important to get those details on the table, because that could be an issue for some people. It did not bother us. The location is unbelievably great - virtually across the street from the Snowshed lodge and the tunnel to Ramshead. It is right off the Access Road, so it is easy to get to all the restaurants and shopping along that road. The room was spacious with two beds and a clean bathroom, plus a small balcony that overlooked the parking lot and the mountains in the distance. There was also a small dorm fridge in the room. The only complaint is the room is that it was very hot. We finally turned down the heat when we figured out the dial was on the baseboard. The breakfast was great, with a complete selection of eggs, bacon, pancakes, French Toast plus breads, bagels, cereal, juices and coffee. The dining area is large, full of light and clean. There is also a living room area and small bar. There is an indoor pool that looked rather large but we did not use it. We did pay $150 plus resort fees and taxes per night for the room, which I thought was quite expensive for what we got. But it was a weekend night during the ski season, so I did not expect it to be super-cheap but given the décor I did fell like it...
