I got into a conflict today with one of the shop supervisors over his incorrect assessment of my board. This assessment led me to buy a board to replace something that didnāt need to be replaced. (I sent it to the manufacturer, and they contradicted the Basin shop opinion). At this point I have already ridden the new board and I accepted that it would be unreasonable to ask for a return. I asked for a portion of what I spent on the new board (which I was told I would need) as store credit. He doubled down on his criticisms of the first board and stuck to this incorrect assessment (even though the manufacturer has already fixed it). He didnāt entertain any sort of misguidance on his part and continued to criticize the state of my old board. He cycled between saying I was lucky that I got the 10% on last years board; he sold me a great board; I should be happy I have two boards now. I asked for store credit of partial value to the board he sold me since it was this false assessment that was used to sell it to me. I was offered a free tune even though I have already purchased a season tune from his shop. At this point we are both frustrated. He tells me I was not going to waiting around for the manufacturer to fix my board and that I would have purchased it either way. He then blamed me for not telling him I could also ski; making the argument irrelevant. At this point I said, āI donāt need to tell you every detail of my Fāing life to do business.ā He ushered me out of the shop after telling me he wasnāt going to make a deal. What angers me about this is he insisted he had done me a favor by selling me a board. In reality, I was misguided by the employee and sold something that I did not need. I have been shopping at Basin Sports for years and have purchased at least 3 snowboards, multiple sets of bindings, boots, clothing, gear, and all the small stuff you need there. Iāve been a continuous customer and have always been patient with the staff (sometimes waiting upwards of an hour) while they deal with larger spenders from out of state. I always let little issues go but when I had a real issue with them, they did not meet me anywhere in the middle. My friends and I have been recently disappointed in the service that this shop has been providing lately.
They also do not wear masks until customers are within sight, some managers will walk up to customers without masks on and try to engage in conversation.
TLDR: Shop manager incorrectly assessed my old gear as broken and up-sold me a new board. When the manufacturer disagreed with the assessment, they refused to acknowledge they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreObviously this place has a ton of great reviews, and they were very nice, opened late (which is so clutch when driving in late on a Friday night) and were super affordable. Some of the blame on what I'm about to say is also on my for not speaking up, however, they put me in boots that were way to small for my feet and my ski level. For perspective, they put me in 23's and a few weeks later I was in 26's and had the best ski weekend of my life. I don't know if they were understaffed when we picked up the skis or what, but I said multiple times that they felt too tight. However, I'm not an expert skiier and they just kept saying "They're supposed to be tight." Well the following day on the mountain I had a bit of a panic. I lost feeling my knees down and my instructor had to have another instructor AND him in order to finally get the boots off of me. I tried to switch boots but it was too late and in order to not lose the whole weekend I put on thinner socks and skiied for another hour but was shaky and in pain the whole time. Again, I get that a lot of this was on me, but I just wish they had been more receptive to me and given me a little more time when i picked them up and this terrible day of skiing would have been avoided. If you know your skiing equipment well and trust your self in what's right more than I do than this place is top notch. However, if they're rushed you won't get the time and attention to fitting you may need. Now that I know my size better however I will likely rent...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI drove to Vermont from Connecticut and I got here on a season pass holder only day. I found out through an old woman who worked at this store. She let us know in the most smug way possible. Thatās the least of what happened. As soon as we asked about renting snowboards she leaned toward us and said you better not ruin our equipment. I chuckled when I heard that thinking she was trying to be funny but she had no smile on her face. Then told us that the park isnāt even really open and only the shortest and most boring trail is open and on my top of that that we should have known that before we came. We came into Vermont really exited. Weāve went to other stores and thought that the people of Vermont were one of the nicest weāve met but when we walked into this store all we felt was terrible dread. Just plain negativity. The woman then asked her coworker if he could get the snowboards ready today for the next day and this man said āNo Iām not doing a thingā. (He was tall and on the bigger side) She turned to us and then said yeah heās not doing it. I had to take the time to write this because wow Iāve never been treated this way by workers In a store. We then went to black dog and we had the best experience. A complete flip. I hope you guys find this and realize everyone deserves respect. I really hope the disrespect was maybe because we were in our early 20s and she thought of us as kids but I hope it wasnāt because she heard the accents and grammatical errors in my friends...
