
This hotel lets Owners use this property as an air bnb hosting and they don’t hold the owners accountable for anything ! The managers don’t take accountability and definitely won’t accommodate you . It took me almost TWO hours To check in because of a mistake on THEIR part . Which when the hotel finally received confirmation from the unit owner the manager who was assisting me at the time stated “ we should have know it was her she does this every time “ so not only do they know this is an issue with the owner they still allow this person to be incorporated with their property . When i was finally given a key they assigned me to a room with Another guest inside . And I was told “ contact the owner “ mind you there’s no where online that states this unit or units are privately owned but even if so the unit is a representation of the Meliá hotel BECAUSE WHEN YOU BOOK IT STATES YOUR BOOKING WITH MELIA NOT A PRIVATE OWNER . If the owner who is in fact in some kinda contract with the hotel and pays a percentage of the booking fee to the MELIA . I feel they need to be a little more accommodating or stop allowing the owners to use the property. We were checked into a second room that was absolutely DISGUSTING the beds were unmade from the previous guest stay . We had no clean towels , no clean dishes . The room was full of old trash and all the front desk could tell me was contact the owner . The first of me even hearing the unit was privately owned was at the check in desk . The hotel is a scam , booking.com is a scam and whoever this Mysterious owner is of unit 528 is a SCAM ! Don’t not book. Nobody helped rectify this situation not even booking.com . Out of a 10 day stay 9 of them he’ll been completely hell . Only good day will be check out . I have so many videos and pictures of this disgusting unit . Management is NO HELP they hide behind the words contact the owner as a way to just send you on your way . I hate it for a guest traveling from another country or city to get to the MELIA and experience what I have . My family was racially profiled more than once at the pool . To the point we just stopped going down after my 13 year old son was told by a worker to get out the pool because he doesn’t belong there . If your not of the Hispanic demographic I would not recommend this hotel to a blind person . Lastly , after multiple attempts to reach the owner for the entirety of the stay I called to the front desk for something so simple as bowls for breakfast and was once again told they can’t help me . After asking to speak to a supervisor I spoke too yet another supervisor who decided to instead of helping me because regardless I’m the guest she hung up in my face . I waiting in the office for a Manager for over an hour to be assisted. DONT BOOK ! My recent stay at your hotel was unfortunately one of the most stressful and disappointing experiences I’ve had while traveling.
First Issue – Curtain Wouldn’t Close Properly Upon arrival, I noticed that the curtain in our room wouldn’t close all the way, compromising our privacy—especially since the room faced the pool area. I informed the front desk, and an engineer was sent to assess the issue. However, I was told, rather dismissively, that “that’s just how the curtain is.” When I explained my concern about being visible from the pool, I was advised to move the couch to keep the curtain shut. This is completely unacceptable—I should not have to rearrange furniture just to feel secure and private in my room.
Second and More Serious Incident – Bed Bugs Later that night, my daughter began complaining about itching within 10–15 minutes of getting into bed. She had no signs of irritation before bed. She had been bathed and was bite-free. When I turned on the lights, I saw visible, swollen bug bites on her arms, back, and chest. We immediately went to the front desk and showed them the fresh, swollen bites, but when I asked for rubbing alcohol to disinfect the affected area, I was told they couldn’t provide it because they "didn’t want to be held liable."
Instead of treating the situation with urgency or compassion, they sent the same engineers as earlier, who began questioning if the bites could have come from outside or the pool. I had to explain that we hadn’t even visited the pool. I refused to fully undress my child to prove the severity of the bites showing the irritation on her arm should have been more than enough. Their response was dismissive and lacked empathy.
To this day (4/14), my daughter is still suffering from swollen bites and is now under medical care, requiring medication to treat the irritation and swelling.
Additional Concerns:
We were moved to another room. Housekeeping entered our room at 8am, even though checkout wasn’t until 11am, no knock, no warning.
Upon checkout, the front desk staff didn’t even offer a simple “Good morning.” I was met with a cold “Can I have your room number?” and that was it. No apology. No acknowledgment of the ordeal we went through.
Overall, this stay has been nothing short of distressing. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic hospitality is astounding. I would never return to this hotel and will actively discourage any of my friends or family from...

However, I stayed here for 2 weeks and a common trend in the first week and a bit was the cleaning staff leaving our room door unlocked, this took over a week to fix, the lock wasn’t broken or anything, they just wouldn’t lock the door. When you’re going to the parks you’re usually there from open till close. So that’s about 12 hours where you are not in the hotel to check your door is unlocked. An absolute disgrace, why did it have to be so difficult to get a door to be locked for when we came back. We ended up recording ourselves locking the doors just so we had proof that we weren’t making a mistake. Such a shame that a great hotel and experience was ruined just by something so simple. Especially when anyone could’ve gone into the room and taken clothes, personal belongings, ID etc. and we would’ve been none the wiser until late at night. It got to the point where we had to stop having our room cleaned, despite staff at reception saying the problem was fixed. Eventually it was fixed but it still took over a week until the door was finally being locked
Another experience was on the day of checkout. Checkout was not until 12pm, yet the cleaning staff decided to barge into the room, no knocking, while someone was in the bathroom, the bathroom door wasn’t unlocked because there was no reason for it to be. When confronted the cleaning staff pretended like they weren’t just in the room even though I caught them in there, they saw me and then very quickly left. You don’t pay to stay at a hotel and then have the staff come into your room while people are in vulnerable states, especially as the cleaning sign as not on the door.
