Hey Peeps, While traveling from Portland to Denver, I drove through Steamboat Springs,CO where I was quoted room prices of $179 -$289 a night. Quick decision there, get outta town. Up and over the divide, through Rabbit Ears and Milner Passes, I headed to the next town. Where I happened upon the Hotel Eastin in the center of Kremmling, CO. ....Such a pleasant find. It is an authentic Old West Hotel circa 1906, with attractive woodwork, doors, staircase and trims. Arriving late and unexpected I was greeted at the front door by one of the owners, Walt. He Invited me in to see the rooms and informed me I had a choice between bathroom ensuite for $65. a night for single, OR, if i didn't mind old school boarding house style he could put me up for $40. a night for a single. I chose old school. Walt immediately showed off the bathing rooms with both tub and shower , and the lavatories and the water closets. Everything was spanking clean and sparkly , feeling welcomed, I signed in. After a quiet night with the screened window open to the fresh mountain air, and enjoying a sound sleep in a good and clean bed, I awakened to the sunshine of a new day. Downstairs, working on the front desk computer I found Walt's better looking, better half, Mary Ann. She greeted me and advised that quality food was close at hand, plus she invited me to partake of coffee and snacks in their own breakfast room. After a Moose Cafe (is that like Nescafe?) breakfast I toured a bit. Nearby is the terminus/confluence of the Blue River meeting the upper Colorado River. Almost within sight of another joining of the Big Muddy with the Colorado. Kremmling is an interesting place to me because of the surrounding natural beauty and the rich history of the area. Ranching for foodstuffs, high country hay (still some of the best in the world), cattle raising and multi specie logging all contributed to the world we enjoy today. That evening at a nearby restaurant I had a hand cut, cooked to order, locally grown rib-eye steak with all the fixin's. Yeah! Back at the Hotel, the Lobby front room is set up like a comfortable living room, warm and inviting. I asked Walt for a loaner guitar and he obliged me. The natural sound of music began attracting some of the guests. The Euro bicycling tour crowd have discovered the Hotel Eastin, and families who feel that 3-500 a night is a bit much for travelers can make good use of the no smoking, multi-bed room. I had such a pleasant stay at the Hotel Eastin I asked to stay on another night. With parking right in front, extremely clean facilities, home-like western/historical atmosphere, and hosts like Walt and Mary Ann, I look forward to...
Read moreI'm reading through some of the other comments. A few matched my experience from evening of JUL 5th. Booked through Priceline. No "desk" in lobby, just a locked office door. Stood around in the lobby for 20 minutes until some kid walked in a said he knew where somebody was. While waiting, I'm hearing what sounds like a bit of a party going on through a back window next to a door. Couple minutes later, a girl comes in through that door and checks me in.
We were given a room with no bathroom - there's a communal bathroom down the hall. Fine - didn't expect that, but not expecting the Taj Mahal, either considering the "rustic" theme. However, checking the bathroom, someone has puked in the bathtub - looked like it'd been there a while.
Woman walking up the steps at that same time tells me she's responsible for that. Tells me the hotel was allowing her to stay in a room if she agrees to clean in return. She starts to clean the bathroom. I'm starting to get the heeby-jeebies about this place at that point. 5-10 minutes after "checking in', me and my son have our luggage back in the car to go somewhere else.
I called Priceline about a refund standing in the lobby doing so. 15 minute call and no one around. Back door locked and still hearing the party outside. I see a sign by the door to text a number if needing anything. I text the number my case for leaving and received a "OK, Thanks!" response.
Not seeing a refund to my account from Priceline after being told the hotel had a cancellation policy and should receive it. Call them back to be told I now have to speak to the hotel directly.
So calling the hotel directly, I'm pretty sure I got the same girl who checked me in and was told she seriously doubted I would get one from the owner. Kept over-talking about the cancellation has to be made 24 hours prior. Had nothing to do with my situation. Of course, got me off the phone with a statement the owner should get back to me soon. I'd already be dead holding my breath.
I love management's response from Sebastien March's review from 2 weeks after mine where they say "It is unfortunate that this guest decided to say false statements and take it out on us." Sounds like he had the same experience I did. Shady, shady, shady operation in every respect.
Put my money back in my...
Read moreWe were on a long weekend trip with our young sons this past weekend. We stayed at this hotel. We had what I thought was a very enjoyable time (aside from the traffic noise coming in the window that we had to open at the owners suggestion because the radiator gets too hot), complete with homemade cookies baked by the owner. We had our dog with us, and because the weather was pretty mild, and the hotel clearly states no pets allowed, we kept our dog in our car the entire stay. I just checked my bank account and we were charged an extra $100.00. My husband called them and they said it was for sneaking our dog into the room!!!!!! They said there was dog hair in the room- uh, NEWS FLASH! The hair (if there even was any) could have come in on the piles of loose ski clothing we brought in that our dog had slept on in the car on the way or on the outside of the suitcase or even on the clothes we were wearing. Notice they weren't able to say "we have it on camera" or "we have pictures" or even "we SAW the dog in the hotel." The owners both were present when we checked out as well some other younger people outside the entrance, and not one of them said a word about their suspicions. We had nice chats with all of them and actually mentioned that we would be back. Our dog absolutely did not step foot inside this building. She was only on the sidewalk outside when we were leaving. This is fraudulent!! I am absolutely speechless that these people put up this down home family front and even asked me to write review on this website and then turned around and charged us many hours after we left. We have contacted the Kremmling police and will be pressing charges. Dishonest and dishonorable (especially for a veteran). Poor business practices at the very least. TO THE OWNERS: I WILL TAKE THIS POST DOWN WHEN YOU RETURN MY MONEY-YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF THAT OUR DOG WAS INSIDE YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AND YOU KNOW IT. YOU WERE TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH FRAUDULENTLY PUTTING AN EXTRA CHARGE ON MY CARD, AND YOU GOT ANGRY WHEN WE NOTICED AND MY HUSBAND CALLED YOU OUT ON...
