Exceptional Experience – Tru by Hilton Lake Charles Sets the Standard As someone who works for a global communications company and travels at least one week out of every month, I’ve stayed at a wide variety of hotels. When visiting our Lake Charles, Louisiana office, I typically stay at Home2 Suites by Hilton. However, on my most recent trip, they were fully booked. Fortunately, Tru by Hilton—located right next door—had availability, so I decided to give it a try and booked a room for the week. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The hotel is colorful, vibrant, and modern—immediately giving off a welcoming and fresh vibe. The lobby smelled clean and well-maintained, and the front desk staff were incredibly polite, helpful, and professional. One unexpected but wonderful surprise was the lake directly behind the hotel. The staff even encouraged guests to go fishing—something you don’t often hear at a hotel and an experience I found extraordinary. My room was clean, minimal, and modern—exactly what I appreciate during business travel. It featured a king-sized bed, a small desk, a functional entertainment area, and a spacious shower. The only thing I found slightly unusual was the lack of drawers (I briefly wondered where to put my socks and underwear!), but it wasn’t a major issue. What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff. They are the reason I’ll return. Throughout my stay, I encountered a billing issue with my corporate card. The hotel manager went above and beyond to help resolve it—calling and texting me daily with updates, checking on how I was enjoying my stay, and showing a level of personal attention that I’ve never experienced at any hotel before. On the day of checkout, I accidentally cut my arm while packing up. As I passed through the lobby, the manager noticed I was bleeding, immediately brought out a first aid kit, and took care of me on the spot. That small act of kindness spoke volumes. Because of the exceptional service, cleanliness, inviting atmosphere, great amenities (like foosball in the lobby and an excellent complimentary breakfast), I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. In fact, I’d feel completely comfortable having my son, daughter, or entire family stay here for a weekend getaway. If you're passing through Lake Charles or planning a stay for business or leisure, I highly recommend booking a room at Tru by Hilton Lake Charles. This property has truly raised the bar for what hospitality...

I was so disappointed in our stay. The pics look great, and I rarely leave a review on anything, but I feel the need to express my experience. The first room we reserved, the fridge did not work. We were offered to change rooms or have maintenance stop by the next morning. We chose to relocate. We were placed by the elevator, which was not too bad because the loud noise from the window unit AC drowned out any noise we could have heard from the elevator. Not sure if that’s a plus. But the main reason for a terrible experience comes from the beds they have. Which let’s be honest, that is the reason we all stay at a hotel is to get a good nights sleep right? I was shocked. Mainly because the price we were charged to stay two nights usually offsets any possible rif raf due to it being a little nicer of a hotel. Well to be a nice hotel, one would normally relate a posh, or at the least a medium feel mattress to be in all of the rooms. WRONG. It was UNBELIEVABLY firm. Not just a little firm but a LOT. My wife and I are both side sleepers, and literally had the worst two nights of sleep we have ever had. When I complained to the desk, the response I received was well it is a newer hotel and the beds may not be broken in yet. The bad things is we couldn’t even reserve another hotel to stay in because everywhere was booked up due to Valentine’s Day weekend. I would have gladly forfeited my money to stay else where. It was that bad. Over all the place was clean, and modern. Design was fantastic, but with beds that hard, I don’t see Hilton rataining a customer base for the Tru locations. After our sleepless two nights and falling asleep on the drive home, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I will not return to a Hilton hotel in the future. It has ruined me. I do not want to risk having another night of tossing and turning. Side note; it was so bad that we literally stopped at Target to price mattress toppers for the second night. We did not want to pay over $100 for one, so we soldiered through it. I called and requested a couple of more pillows, just so we could sleep on them and have somewhat of a cushion to sleep on, as our hips and shoulders were killing us the next day as well. Hope this helps out someone else looking for a...

I had never stayed at a Tru by Hilton hotel before. Driving up I noticed the flashy vibrant exterior colors, and being used to subtle muted hotel colors, it definitely caught my attention.

I was also somewhat thrown off by... when I walked in I saw what looked like an airport convenience store checkout station with snacks and souvenirs for purchase. The attendant greeted me, but was wearing a t shirt and hoodie, so, I couldn't tell if this was the concierge or if I needed to go somewhere else.

The staff was friendly, and check in was painless. I was greeted with a goodie bag and a "thanks for being a Hilton Honors member." When I went up to the room the TV was displaying a "Welcome Nick," which was a nice touch. I also received a text the following day to see if I was enjoying my stay.

There is a complimentary breakfast buffet with a variety of options open early (around 6am) to accommodate those traveling for business.

There is no pool, but there's a gym with plenty of exercise options. There's also a lounge and business area with work stations, foosball, and areas to just unwind.

The rooms are relatively modern, yet cozy, each equipped with most typical hotel room amenities.

Tru is located near several other hotels, and it's almost walking distance from a variety of restaurants. If you want to gamble, the casinos are just a short drive from the hotel.

Some tips: Sign up for Hilton Honors to get a little goodie bag upon arrival. Take advantage of the breakfast, as it's actually pretty good. I was impressed by the body wash/hand soap that was provided. The dispensers were neat, and had a squeeze functionality that I'd never used before. But the fragrance of the lemon sugar scent was very...

I highly recommend continuing your journey without stopping at the Tru hotel. While the Hampton Inn was fully booked, I reluctantly agreed to stay at Tru based on their affiliation with the Hilton family. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake. Upon entering the hotel, I immediately noticed an unpleasant odor permeating the hallways and common areas. After settling into our room, my child discovered hairs on the toilet. Upon closer inspection, I found more hair on the floor and on the shower. I promptly informed the front desk, and although they offered to move us to another room, it was late, and we were too exhausted to relocate. Despite this, we were still charged the full amount for our stay. The next day, I spoke with Sylvia, the manager, and provided her with photos of the hair-ridden bathroom. Disappointingly, she stated that we had been offered a new room and declined it. While it's true that we declined to move, this in no way diminishes the reality of our unsatisfactory experience. If I wanted this level of cleanliness, I would have opted for a much cheaper alternative. It's disheartening when a manager prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction. A clean and welcoming room is a basic expectation for any customer, especially considering the price we paid for our stay. I urge you to refrain from subjecting yourself to the same disappointing experience. I've attached photos showing the state of the bathroom during our stay.

Great little hotel option outside of the local casinos. We were greeted warmly and helped with our checkin. The hotel halls smelled amazing! I was super impressed with the cleanliness. The lobby was vibrant and looked to be geared toward families. The hotel is pet friendly for a fee of $75. They even allow cats (which I have) and service dogs are allowed with no extra fee. The room itself was nicely arranged. The bathroom was stocked with hand soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. The bed was comfortable. I really like the convenience of this hotel. Casino hotels are usually so busy and the parking is not easy to navigate. We had safe and easy parking with our vehicle right outside the entrance of the hotel. The exterior of the hotel is pretty with a small lake right behind the property. The breakfast was good. Scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, muffins, a make own pancake machine, juices, yogurt, and more. For $134/night, you can’t go wrong. There are five other properties literally surrounding each other. It’s a great space if traveling with a large group. If one hotel is full, you can probably find space in a hotel near by I’m not in this area often, but I would definitely stay here again!
