I booked this at the last minute and selected it because they advertised being "pet friendly". We have a non-shedding 50 pound Portuguese Water Dog who is also a therapy dog. When we arrived the owner seemed surprised we had a dog in spite of their "pet friendly" listing. He insisted we should have called first which I have NEVER heard of. But he checked us in and we assured him we were very respectful and would be low impact. There was no mention of extra fees etc. Note this B&B cost $200 a night so I expect some flexibility when they say "pet friendly". After a surprisingly meager breakfast we get hit with an unexpected additional "pet fee" of $40! No mention of an extra fee when we checked in or at Booking.com. $40 is outrageous as far as pet fees! And why? Our room was about the size of a garden shed with wood floors. I covered the bed with my own sheet and blanket. If he wanted to charge a crazy pet fee like that he should have posted it on his listing AND told us before we checked in! It was sneaky and insulting to drop a bomb like that when we checked out. Dog owners don't want to stay where they aren't wanted. The Country Cottage does not want dogs. Find someplace else, there's lots of them. ||||Note about breakfast: they advertise a "full English breakfast". To me this means a particular thing. What we got was a kind of french toast egg custard thing with 2 wafer thin ham pieces. It wasn't bad but my wife's a vegetarian and would have preferred something not sweet. She didn't eat any and we had to buy her breakfast someplace else. There was no choice and nobody asked what we might like. If you have ever been to England you will laugh at the notion this is an "english breakfast". Again, for $200+ you expect a bit more in the...
Read morePosting for my mother (per her words): My husband had planned a romantic 4-day getaway for my birthday and had chosen Country Cottage for our lodging. We were both excited to get out of the city and celebrate. Unfortunately, as is anyone's worst fear, our vacation got cut short just hours after our arrival when my husband began exhibiting symptoms of a stroke. Terrified that he was having a stroke, I rushed him into the nearest ER where we spent the next 24 hours until he could be transported via ambulance to a hospital back in the city. When the ER stabilized my husband and had arranged for ambulatory services back to the city, I headed back to our room, along with our kids (as they had driven up at this point) to gather our items and explain the situation. As would be any person who just experienced someone they love having a medical emergency, I was still shaken and incredibly worried about my husband. When I explained the circumstances to the owner's, I received such a cold response that I was further shaken. Not only were the owners not willing to reimburse any of our stay, they even had the audacity to insult my spouse. There was no empathy or concern for the well-being of another human being. Their only focus was on the monetary aspect of the situation. They made a traumatic and horrific experience worst. Please keep this in mind when you contemplate making a reservation at this location and if you do, hope you don't have a...
Read moreWe had such a pleasant stay here!
The owners were warmly friendly and charming. Even before arriving we had a positive interaction with them - we had to change our plans at the last minute due to an unfortunate family emergency, and they graciously rescheduled our stay with no penalty. Thank you! :)
Upon arrival, we were greeted with home baked chocolate chip cookies. How sweet! We loved the quaint cottage and grounds. Everything in the cottage was thoughtfully arranged and tastefully decorated. There was a mini-fridge, a tiny cutting board and knife, a bottle opener, two wine glasses; shampoo (note: no conditioner, bring your own!), soap, lotion, cotton swabs, and q-tips. Best part was the shower had THREE shower heads! We had a peaceful night's sleep on the firm and comfortable bed. The next morning we woke up to a pack of young deer in the garden. Breakfast was fresh cut fruit, hearty sausages, a rich cheesy quiche, and an amazing candied ginger scone.
Only downside: it was a little far from the water and the restaurants. Still, I would recommend...
