We had rm w/ 1 King bed. Loved the large walk-in shower. Plenty of hot water. Bed was fine. Staff were very friendly. B'fast options were good; dining area nice. Good parking. BUT IT WAS SOOOOO HUMID in the room that it ruined the stay. Only had that experience once before in a different town at a cheap Super 8--expected better from a Fairfield Inn by Marriott, especially one built recently. The AC unit only had two settings--blow hot/blow cold, and fan speed, but it DID NOT DEHUMIDIFY (remove moisture from the air) AT ALL which is, of course, half of what creates a comfortable room environment. Setting it really cold only made me feel cold AND wet which is not comfortable. And the bathroom had what looked like a vent fixture in the ceiling, but NO FAN ran in the bathroom regardless of what switches we tried, so we couldn't even vent moist air that way. (Either the bathroom fan didn't work, or there isn't one behind the vent fixture--not sure which.) At 1 am one night, I was so miserable laying there soaked in sweat in my bed, I went to the front desk to ask if there was any way to make the system in our room dehumidify, but the clerk had no resolution to offer. No matter how cold we set the room temp, the room was always wet, and it was like that in the whole room even before we took any showers, so it was NOT humidity from the shower. The hotel's environmental system simply is not designed to remove moisture from the air. I was sweaty all the time in this room and couldn't wait to get back to our car where the AC was actually comfortable. We had crunchy cookies we brought with us and they became soft in our room at this hotel. The hallways were also hot and humid which I noticed as soon as we walked into the hotel and I thought to myself--well I guess they are only doing the minimum air conditioning in the hallways to save money, but I at least was hoping we could get to our room and make it a comfortable environment, but we never could the entire two-night stay. The only somewhat cool area was the lobby by the front desk where the AC was running full blast. I would have given the hotel a 9 or a 10 except for the poor air environmental system. l would only recommend this hotel to persons staying in the winter, because in eastern Kansas, there is humidity from spring to early fall and a Ks hotel needs to have a system in place to address that reality. It would hopefully be a more comfortable room environment in the winter when it...
Read moreWe came to visit a son at fort Leavenworth. Last time we visited accommodations were at the hotel on base , but this time we stayed here because we are Marriott loyalists. The hotel was clean and all was well, UNTIL I woke up on the middle of the night and smelled a strong odor of smoke. |I jumped out of bed, sure the hotel must be on fire!! Looked out the window.. nothing... then through the peephole in the door. Nothing. Went out in the hall. Everything seemed normal. Couldnât go back to sleep for fear of the fire that had to be somewhere .while lying there I remembered that when we pulled in to the parking lot there had been a BBQ stand, with a wood smoker in the parking lot. We had both commented on how wierd it was. Bingo. That was the source of the smell. We went to the front desk in the morning and asked when the bbq thing would be leaving. They said it is there All of the time. WHAT?!??|We have stayed at countless Marriott s and never encountered this! We stayed only one more night , the strong smell of smoke in our room again. I wondered if I was being petty, then at breakfast the last morning, I heard a well dressed business woman commenting to her table of associates that she was troubled by the smell of smoke in her room , and now all of her clothes that she had for the trip reeked of it!! So, I wasnât the only one bothered by it! It was bad! I donât know how much âblack belt BBQâ pays Marriott for the small space outside, and I canât figure out why Marriott would do such a strange thing, but I hope they get a lot of $ from him to compensate for all of the business they are losing due to the smoke!!|From now on we know to...
Read moreThe hotel was clean, rooms were comfortable, spacious, modern. The STAFF was fantastic. We had provided our own pack and play for an infant; we needed another and the hotel brought one up straight away. Breakfast was delicious. After checkout, one of us discovered we had misplaced something valuable. I called the front desk from the car. The employee who took the call promptly and personally checked the two places I thought it would be while I waited on hold. The item was found.
Most importantly, the staff worked with our family to facilitate the rental of their meeting room for a fault gathering to celebrate the life of our father. We had the space all day, sharing the Chiefs game, playing cards and generally being together. They worked with us on keeping it tidy throughout, providing us with trash bags and spray to wipe down tables and surfaces. We truly enjoyed our time together and thank the Fairfield Inn for making it happen. When we rented the meeting room, the staff also facilitated our large family by making available a group of rooms for us. All of this happened the week prior to the funeral which is rather last minute for these types of things.
