Checked into this hotel about 7PM after a long travel day. At that time, we booked for one night but were considering staying a second night depending on the hotel. Room was OK, good sized but the furnishings were spartan.
I jumped in for a quick shower, preparing to head out for dinner and when I came out, my wife said that she had had a closer look at things and she had wiped down the nightstands and surfaces with disinfectant wipes (travel in the time of COVID) because there were large, sticky spills, maybe soda, on the tops. She jumped in for a quick shower and quickly dressed to go out before the restaurants closed. It was at that point we spotted the panties balled up in the corner, which was a no-go for me, especially in these COVID times and after the sticky mess on the desktops. So approximately 30 minutes after arrival I walked out to the desk to let them know. The clerk said she was going to let the manager know and he would contact us by phone. We went out for dinner, keeping the phone close by, but no call came in.
We decided not to stay a second night; we did not partake of the breakfast beyond coffee but the choices looked pretty good and it was clean. I checked out at 9AM the next morning. The manager was in at that time, and I spoke to him. He said he had not been informed of the incident, despite the clerk telling us she would contact him the night before. He did refund $50 towards the room charge, but, what was most infuriating was that he said the clerk never contacted him the night before, and she reported in their log that we had waited 2 1/2 hours after check in to report the condition of the room, which was a bald-faced lie. We reported it as soon as we saw it.
We are both Platinum Elite members and travel frequently. At this time we are in the middle of a 60-day trip. We realize that all hotels operate independently but we have not previously had this type of experience with IHG; it has definitely caused us to seek out other hotel chains unless we have physically seen the hotels prior to check-in. I live my life with integrity and don't appreciate being lied to or about. I cannot...
Read moreFamily Vacation in Lewisburg, West Virginia, started off great on the road trip from Ohio to the Mountains of West Virginia, too arriving in Lewisburg, until we checked into our suites at the Holiday Inn. Arriving, checking into our rooms , we were super excited, because we’ve never stayed at a Holiday Inn before. Suites were on the same floor for me and my Wife’s suite and the kids two bedroom suite. Upon entering both suites, they looked from a glance that they were clean, but actually after turning the lights on, we started noticing the sheets and comforter and me, and my wife’s Jacuzzi suite had red blotches/stains of blood on them, the toilet would not flush. The experience for my 12-year-old, and my 15-year-old, and my 16-year-old and the two bedroom suite was a little different, they just had coffee cups, beer, cans, and beer bottles sitting around. Beds made yes, rooms were dirty, not vacuumed. I called the from desk immediately and ask for the manager, there was no manager on site. The front desk told me that the manager wouldn’t be in until in the morning and politely gave my wife, a new comforter and set of sheets, what she had to come upstairs and change herself. no manager ever contacted me or my wife, the whole time we were there, and my wife was at the desk several times during our five day stay, that cost $2300.00, we could not go to any other hotels because they all were booked. My children enjoyed the pool and the breakfast and children are easily impressed by things like that, but for me and my wife, we will remember the anxiety. We had the whole week from the beginning of the check-in...
Read moreI would have liked to rate this hotel better but there were just too many problems. Good stuff: breakfast (except for the rubbery bacon – we Americans like it crisp!), pool, location, comfortable beds. Bad stuff: when paying the ridiculously high prices for hotels these days, the following should not be problems. Our first room’s air conditioner was not working and in the middle of a heat wave, A/C is a must! We got a new room right away, no problem there, but we were told the filters were recently cleaned (good) and in some of the rooms the A/C wasn’t working. You’d think they would check that out first! Later on the first of three days, the elevator broke. Got fixed the next day. I noticed the 1st floor ice machine had an out of order sign saying to use the 3rd floor machine. Went to the 3rd floor, it too was not working! It was working by the next day; the 1st floor one never did get fixed. Day 2 – key cards did not work; had to get them re-scanned. Also, for some reason the smoke alarm in the room randomly started going off! Happened three or four times on the 2nd day. It must have gone off again on day 3 when we were out; upon returning there was a note on the door telling us the alarm had been replaced. Finally, the carpeting in the room was filthy. We’d get in the shower every day and the water turned almost black under our feet. Had to make sure we kept socks on at all times. Two years ago we stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Lewisburg. If we ever come back, we’ll stay there instead of at the Holiday Inn Express. I expected much better from this place for...
