Let me tell you a story. My family had had a very bad day. I thought to myself, "I'm going to take my family out to a nice meal and that will make the day better!" OH sweet summer child....if I only knew what was to come. We decided on a breakfast for dinner and somewhere in the back of my mind, childhood memories of Bob Evans breakfast came rushing back. The lovely diner style breakfast, the homely smell, and the welcoming atmosphere of my memories seemed just the thing to soothe three tired souls. So we went to our local Bob Evans. We were seated right away as the restaurant seemed pretty slow. I want to make this clear that our waitress was great and none of this was her fault. We ordered our food and started chatting away. Then it started. The father and two kids seated next to us started talking on the phone, on speaker, with their grandfather. Loudly. OK, no problem. It happens. I wish I could say after the call ended that that was all. Oh no. Not at all. The children then began with loud, sporadic screams, alternating with sounds of whatever was on their phone. The father, complete with large Bluetooth headset, began a call, blissfully ignorant of the actions of his children. Meanwhile, 30 minutes had passed since ordering and the tone of the room shifted. Patrons shifting in their seats and whispers of discontent heard behind the chatter of this gentleman on his phone and the discordant outbursts from his children he was steadfastly ignoring. 40 minutes in small flies began assaulting us. I killed three. Other customers were doing their best as well to kill them or dissuade them as best they could. 45 minutes in, in the midst of a discussion of when we should leave, our food arrived. Finally! This will make it worth it. Oh no. Far from it friends. This was the single most disgusting meal that I believe I have ever had placed in front of me and I've eaten at McDonalds in a South Carolina truck stop. The eggs were cold and had developed a dry crust on top. The loaded home fries were deeply burnt and soaked in old grease. The cold, encrusted cheese topped with dry, stale green onions stared bleakly back at me from my plate. Tentatively, I took a bite. Hoping beyond hope that looks were deceiving. They were not, friends. Immediately upon ingesting this substance that should have been food, an assault on my senses occurred. I've had less salt on salt pork and more enjoyment from military rations. As I looked at my wife desperately trying to chew through the shoe leather that should have been steak tips it occurred to me that I have made a grave error in judgement. We literally could not continue eating. Not for lack of trying. Our bodies were actively resisting the order to eat what was sold to us. Silently, as one, we set our forks down in defeat, unable to continue to force feed ourselves as the instinct to not poisen ourselves kicked in. We stood, with wayward children running around us, and left. So, in summary, not only has this been the single worst meal i have ever attempted in my 36 years, but it has also shattered a happy childhood memory. The tea was...
Read moreETA: A friend treated me to lunch with her 2 children. My pancakes were delicious and our server was not having the best day. She had 1 otyer table. We needed drink refills, i asked for them and syrup behind wherevthe cook window is and they were brought to us from the shift manager. The pancakes are always good and i wish the service was better only because dry pancakes with no syrup or water, doesn't go down easily.* My best friend and I arrived when they opened at 7 for breakfast and our server was extraordinary. She refilled drinks and made sure everything was well. I appreciate her so much and wish I knew her name. Excellent time with a friend and food on point. We had gone to eat here once a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful server named Jamie, who gave our family time to order and enjoy our meal, and we have family bonding if you will. He was wonderful, refilling our drinks, and found a balance had to win to come by and ask when to leave us alone, and we had an enjoyable experience. As far as the food is concerned what we ordered that evening was delicious was the chicken tenders as well as the salad and rolls and besides we're good to the two people that I was with and I tried to the macaroni and cheese and felt like it tasted like a Kraft but my son had it to go. Now we had gone back to other times and the service was absolutely horrible when I was with my partner and we sat down for 40 minutes after doing a drink order and asked another server to bring our drinks out, the restaurant actually was not even full of customers like it was with her previous existing visit and the food came out before another tables did that was there before us and all he had was a soup and sandwich and I had pancakes that was it. I do not even know where everything went wrong with that experience and then when we had gone back with my son on Sunday, we had an outstanding server, and I wish that I could remember her name, she was literally working non-stop and kept refilling our drinks and making sure that our food was good and there was a hiccup with my order and she promptly went back and fixed that and then when our chicken tenders had come out they were these massive pieces of chicken and so she put the wrong order in and apologized which to me with absolutely no big deal whatsoever because she corrected it immediately and her attitude was so positive and kind and everyone makes mistake and when you have a server who you can tell genuinely feels sad that they made a mistake in the most humble way I have so much respect for this specific server because she is a very hard worker and the food was outstanding. The restaurant was packed with customers on the last visit Sunday and everything was flowing and our food was wonderful we had a great time as a family it...
Read moreAs much as I used to be a super fan of Bob Evan's back in what I consider their hay day of the 90's, I now struggle to even dine them.
This was a road trip stop in an area I frequent, but first time at this location, parking is plentiful and was clear of debris. Signage is great off the road and it's hard to miss the signature red building.
When I entered there was no hostess. So I started off in the men's room which was clean enough, but had odor and super dated and in need of an overall. Everything worked and they had proper supplies.
When I came out still no hostess, but I was seen and someone did move toward me with menus to seat me. The woman was friendly and got a drink order of coffee and water.
The dining room had multiple tables that were not cleared from previous guest. I mentioned this and the woman said they had a call out. Another woman whom believe was the manager began bussing tables and apologized.
The overall look was broken down and in desperate need of renovation. The tables were worn down from decades of use, the carpeting also worn and stained. There were few guest as it seemed they had just completed a Sunday rush.
My coffee and water hit the table and time to order. It was around 1030 AM and I had not eaten starting out at 330 AM. I ordered a Farmers Choice Breakfast with bacon. It's a large meal that has three eggs, meat and potatoes. Along with three pancakes. The waitress smiled and was efficient. The meal value was quite good for the amount.
My meal came out within 15 minutes. I immediately knew the potatoes were not right and semi frozen. Everything was edible and the pancakes quite good. Overall the meal was average, to subpar. I did receive a table check with coffee refill but the manager. I expressed disappointment at the potatoes which she offered to remake and I declined.
My check was dropped on the table after finishing by again the manager who said she too the potatoes off the bill which was appreciated.
I checked out at the counter by again the manager and tipped 20%+ on my card as the service was quite good at the table. I would not return. 2.5...
