The manager Veronica is nice and she tries to help people. The hired help are not so good. Communication with staff is poor. It makes one think they do not care. The place is close to the VA and UAMS hospitals and there are other hospitals literally in every direction. It is a hospital zone. But the low-class people who come here do not seem to understand that this is a hospital zone. It caters to the relatives of patients at the hospitals. I was a veteran, alone, had surgery at the hospital. I hated that this place is so NOISY at night when I try to sleep. Machinery - the a.c. units. or refridgerators of the place or restaurant or something start up at night and it is hard to sleep. Relatives of hospital patients from out of town, hot-rod around the parking lot, acting like they are from out-of-town and don't care whom they disturb. People talking loud at night, partying, slamming doors to get them to close - instead of fixing the doors or teaching the guests how to close the door without slamming it - and to open. The front gate is only an exit and it slams very loudly unless you catch it and ease it closed. People do not care - so the damn building shakes when they go out this way and let this gate slam. Cigarette butts at the exit because people disregard the no-smoking policy. I do not care that people smoke - but it seems disrespectful to me that they cannot field-strip their butts or not stand over the exit gate and chain-smoke and drop the butts to make a mess at the exit gate where no one bothers to clean up very often. Washing machines out of repair. And the cost is much higher than other places for long-term rent, though it is lower than motels on average. The Wifi is very terrible. I think it is the worst internet access of anywhere in North America I have been. The connection just STOPS! Anytime, day or night, when you are in the middle of doing something: you have to SIGN-In to their system - again - and sometimes you are blocked from signing in - so you have to go through changes to recover your internet access. They claim they provide free rides to the VA -which is less than 1 mile away - but when I needed a ride to go in for surgery at 5:30 a.m., the office was closed and locked and woman - who had told me she would be there - the office open 24/7 - was nowhere and so I had to drive my car to the UAMS . Not a big deal - but when you are going in for surgery and someone has told you they would take care of you and you are alone with no one it sucks to be let...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe hotel is located on a busy street. There's a sandwich shop, a Chinese restaurant, and a gas station right next door to the hotel. The hotel shuttles visitors to and from the hospitals close by. You call the front desk 30 minutes prior to your departure and the shuttle will be ready for you. The place itself was clean. There's two areas to the hotel, the main area where the office is located at and across the parking lot where I believe are the smaller rooms. The parking lot is tight, and it was even tighter around the entrance because some of the shuttle vans were parked right in front of the front office. I booked this place online while we were in the area for my fils surgery at the UAMS hospital. We paid $171/night (includes other fees and taxes) for a suite with 1 bedroom with two beds and a pullout bed in the living area. The suite had a small kitchen set up with a refrigerator, a two burner stove top, and small sink. My sister in law booked a suite the night she got in and received a discounted rate of $89/night. They advertise that if you're in the area for Medical purposes, you get a discount. Upon realizing we could've received a discounted rate, we contacted the front desk who told us to call Expedia who I booked the hotel through. When I contacted Expedia, they said that the hotel had to make the adjustments, they even tried to contact the hotel themselves several times. We didn't get anywhere with the front-desk and Expedia tried to work with us and Markham. However, upon checking out and talking to the lady at the front desk, we were told to contact customer service for Markham after we got back. I got back, promptly contacted customer service via email and Facebook (the phone # goes to the hotel) and haven't gotten anywhere. I have yet to hear from anyone and no one has acknowledged we could've received a discounted rate. The hotel was also busy the first weekend of April when we went because of a game across the street, however, we were not there for the game but for my fil's surgery. The staff is prompt and diligent, but not friendly or very customer service oriented. They just get the job done as needed, although they haven't acknowledged my request...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAn extremely outdated hotel. Not terrible by any means, but really outdated and behind the times. Very convenient though because my mom is having a procedure at CHI St Vincent Hospital which is literally steps away, but even if she has another procedure there I wonāt stay here again. Seriously lacking outlets, so if you have to plug in a cube to charge your phone then youāll have to unplug the alarm clock or lamp beside the bed. The next closest outlet is on the opposite side of the bed at the foot of the bed, so not convenient for plugging in your phone unless your charge cable is 10+ feet long. Want to just use your charge cable? Forget it. The lamps nor alarm clock nor wall outlets have USB ports for plugging in. So thereās that. Also if you have a laptop you want to use on the bed, once again, see the issue with the outlets. So thereās that. Check-in was slow. Incredibly slow. It seems like they have outdated internet here and so that may every move the front desk gal made on the computer incredibly slow. Also, and this is a nitpick but something I havenāt had to deal with in years it seems: They hit my credit card for the $50 incidentals/hold/deposit/whatever you want to call it fee. Which is dumb. In this day and age everyone pays with a credit or debit card and you already have that in the system, if I tear some sh*t up while Iām staying here just hit me for the costs after Iām gone. Iāve already had to pay to stay here why I gotta pay another $50 after I get here? Outdated. Not only that, even though I had 2 rooms she told she would only charge me once, which I appreciated. Although, checking my account now, I was actually hit THREE TIMES!! $150 freaking dollars I was hit for and two of the guests are my 82 year old mom and my 90 year old aunt. $150 damn dollars. So much for me hitting up Trader Joeās or Whole Foods while Iām in town, I might have to go busk for gas money to get home!! lol. Seriously though, itās probably fine though if youāre 65+ and donāt care about the things I mentioned, I just remember staying here for a Razorbacks game when I was 10 years old and that was 38 years ago and it feels like little more than the TVs have been updated since. Youāve...
