In the spare of the moment, we decided to drive to Long Beach to tour the Queen Mary, however, the ship hotel was fully booked and the prices of close by hotels were way above our budget. So...||on Priceline we booked the cheapest motel we could.||||Here are 5 good things about the Bartlett.||||1. Price - Cheapest motel ($20 dollars cheaper per night than Motel || 6) within a decent driving distance. ||||2. Location - less than a 30-minute drive on Pacific Coast Hwy to the || Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. AND the area || where the motel is decent, AND walking distance (2 blocks or less) || to at least10 good restaurants (Asian, Steak, Mexican, noodle || houses, Gourmet Pizza) and Rolling Hills Mall with an AMC 20.||||3. The Barlett is a small single-story building so there is no one || above you, the rooms are away from the road so there is little road || noise and the walls don't seem to be paper thin. We had quiet two || night stay.||||4. You can park your car right in front of your room.||||5. The Barlett has been renovated and the bathroom was pleasantly || nice. The vanity had a medium/large counter area and the || shower was big and had great water pressure. Had to wait a bit || for the very hot water. Also, the towels were almost soft and very || clean.||||6. The bed it's self was comfortable enough for a good nights sleep, || even if it looked like a bed you may have personally thrown it out || a year ago if it were your bed.||||7. Our room (can't speak to the others) had been renovated at some || point and actually seemed cleaner and less seedy than other 1- || star motels. The floor was a nice tile, so no nasty carpet.||||P.S. There were a frig and microwave in the room, but no coffee pot.||||OK, here are the 5 reasons you might pass this one up.||||1. There is no closet, no dresser, no suitcase rack, no hooks in the || room or bathroom, no place to hang your clothes or even one || item.||||2. The mattress cover and the sheets, while clean, were for a full- || size bed on our queen size bed. We woke up directly on the || mattress (ugh) because the sheets didn't stay in place.||||3. The TV is mounted on the wall, head high, right in the only || walking path to the bathroom. You're constantly dodging a head || injury. In my case, not so successfully.||||4. There is no phone in the room to call the front desk/office. So if || you need something or have questions you have to walk down.||||5. Like the other motels we have stayed at that are owned/operated || by (hard working) people from a 3rd world country, they do not || understand the American standard. Case in point - when we got || to our room the toilet paper roll was almost empty, so I looked || around for the new roll - none. I had to walk down to ask for T.P. I || understand that they operate on a very tight budget, but come on, || one full roll of toilet paper won't break the budget. Second case in || point. When I walked to the office for my roll of toilet paper I asked || if there was maid service and the man said there was so I || requested it. When we got back the maid had not made our bed (I || guess trying to stretch the mattress cover and sheets across the || bed proved too much for her/him) but she/he did leave clean new || towels and an unflushed BM in the toilet.||||Would I recommend staying here, well yes, if you're a hearty soul, the accomadations were not too bad. If the service would get up to American standards they would do...
Read moreWanting to save some $$ we stayed there for a month while our home was being repaired. I had stayed at the Bartlett Motel when I first came to L.A. after a stint in the USAF. They have done (and are still doing) work to modernize/ improve the rooms. (while we were there, they repaired & restriped the parking lot) The on-site staff are very nice Indian people who will help you when needed. We had trouble with our TV remote but John fixed it. We accidentally locked ourselves out, John politely & without sarcasm let us back in. The cleaning woman did everything with a smile.
The owner(manager?) Dan was polite. As for the rooms, very little to complain about. I liked our room #110. The bed was comfortable. It showed a little wear but it did not hurt our backs. The microwave was only 700watts but it worked. The refrigerator kept things cold & was bigger than many I've seen at orher Hotels.
I saw only 1 bug while I was there.
I did find well camouflaged "scribblings" (graffiti) on 2 of the wall hangings. They looked like signatures, they weren't.
We noticed the shower rod was loose, but got a new one the next day.
I liked how you could park right outside the door & the outside lighting.
There's a laundry facility right next door behind the Liquor Store. There's a Mexican Food restaurant directly to the West. All in all a good time was had. The other tenets were quiet. We wanted to extend an extra week but we were told they had already "sold out" -our room too, meaning we needed to pack up & go elsewhere since our place isn't fixed yet.
That, to me, was not a great moment as we had to scramble to relocate in just 2 days. But such is the industry. Rooms must be filled.
Would we return, absolutely. It's in our backyard practically. The AMC Theater chain is just down the street. There are many restaurants nearby, & Lomita isn't far from the beach.
MESSAGE TO THE OWNER KEEP UPDATED ON MAINTENANCE. I saw a few things (I told you about) but you are going in the right...
