NOTE: the check out time is 10:30AM, NOT 11M as their website says. EDIT 2: It seems they finally updated the check out time to 10:30AM, after I initially posted this review.
I believe that you get what you pay for and I do not mind the no frills nature of budget hotels. But for a final price of nearly $80 a night (I was being charged even more but I haggled it down a bit), I feel like I was still ripped off. I don't mind the basic amenities or small size of the room, but the room had a foul smell, dirty gummy carpet, broken toilet, cuss words etched onto the bed frame, and the owner and his wife (both seem Indian) didn't adhere to the face mask policy and were not particularly friendly, especially the wife, she scowled when I asked for a towel
Pros: +It can be cheap with some nights as low as $54 which is pretty cheap for LA standards. But I wouldn't pay more than $60 a night. +Near Metro rail and multiple bus lines. +Close to downtown LA +Free shampoo, soap, and lotion. Towels available on request +Free parking (But its really small) +Spare bathrooms in the hall +Room had a TV (idk if it works tho) and mini fridge. +Room key is required to enter hotel building at night so I felt safer
-The area around it is sketchy -Room smelled bad -Carpet was patchy with gum and random sinking spots and burn holes -Bed comforters were old, lumpy, and tattered. -Bathroom had something sticky on the floor but it didn't smell like urine. The toilet would wobble when using it. Shower curtain had holes -AC machine buttons were so worn out that it was difficult to use -The bed frame and fridge had random and cuss words etched onto them like graffiti -Check out is at 10:30AM which is a bit seedy, most places do 11AM and previously their website said 11AM when I was there. Its almost like they want to catch you off guard. -Really tiny parking lot and the surrounding area makes me feel hesitant parking the car on the street side.
Conclusion: Its cheap but the owners seem shady, there are multiple fake reviews from generic account names talking about spa service, pools, food and tea service, none of those exist here. The shadiness of it makes me more unwilling to stay here. Id only recommend it if you want a cheap hotel that is close to downtown. I would only stay here again if its under $60 but otherwise Id rather pay more for a...
Read moreGood people very friendly and very accommodating. Keep Communication open with them. They're happy to help & accommodate and work with you.
Judging by the renovations in process, you can see where the hotel has been, AS WELL AS what it is becoming. It's moving in a positive direction.
Stove, sink, washer & dryer in room off lobby lounging area. Outside patio as well. If you want something from the soda machine, ask if it us working first. If it's not, they'll be happy to give you your change back.
Yes, rooms are small. No more than 2 ppl per room. Some rooms have no bathroom BUT they are accommodating for that as well. Each floor has a separate shower room and bathroom in the hallway. Seedy area, but very secure & good central location.
Many stores, restaurants, pharmacies, shops, street food all around. Grocery stores 10 min walk away. Gold Line is 2 blocks downhill, and busses right on the corner of Cesar Chavez & Soto.
Rules are strict, but those rules keep you safe. Stay inside after dark, unless you have ride share service to get u to & from there. Vibey area during the day.
Yes, parking does leave a bit to be desired but when you would get the area, it is very common to have a compacted property space. It's L.A. Just know that, beforehand. Small vehicles only.
SOME parking in front. First come, first serve, and be aware of the street cleaning/garbage day rules before parking your car. The later you get there, the harder it will be to find parking. Again, it's L.A. Be prepared. Knowledge is power. (When it comes to parking)
Overall, I was treated with dignity and respect, and so was my daughter. I DID feel safe inside the hotel. Yes, there are a few shortcomings, for which they have accommodations. This includes the hallway bathrooms, as well as making sure the place is secure, keeping strict rules re: visitors, pets, & smoking. It also includes the fact that they are renovating the place, little by little. So please be patient and communicate nicely. They are willing to work with you. (Thank you for that, Sam)
I can't wait to see the finished product of all the renovations. New carpet will be installed as well. I'm excited to see what it's going to look...
Read moreI booked this hotel room for my daughter to attend an event. I wasn't there personally so I can't comment on the cleanliness of the property but I can tell you I was terrified for her safety! On her second night in the hotel I got a phone call in the middle of the night from her and she was hysterical because someone came in to her room. She was sleeping and her hotel door opened and a man walked in, looked around and left. Obviously this woke her up and she was terrified for her safety. She hid under the covers and called me whispering what had happened. I put her on hold and found the hotels main number. When I explained to the man what had happened and asked him to go and check it out he said there's no way that could have happened because there are cameras everywhere. I went back to my daughter on the other line and told her this but she was crying so hard and so afraid because there was still noises at her door. I went back to the hotel switchboard and spoke to the man again (manager I think?) and insisted that he go and check. I listened on the phone with my daughter and heard him knock on the door and then as he explained to her something completely different than what he had told me. He said that one of the other guests forgot his room key so the he gave him a master key. Why would you give a guest a MASTER KEY????? The guest was "confused" about what room was his. This is complete and utter BS and an accident/lawsuit waiting to happen. We live in Pennsylvania and my daughter was in this hotel in California. What was I supposed to do if something had happened while I was listening on the phone? Absolutely unbelievable. She asked if she could check out a little later so she could get a little sleep because obviously she wasn't able to sleep for quite a while after this incident. They gave her 2 hours and told her if she needed more time it would be $75. You can expect that a budget priced hotel wouldn't be the Hilton but everyone deserves and should expect that they will at least be SAFE while in the room. If I could give less than 1...
