O MY GOD... THIS PLACE.
A friend and I literally were just looking for a place to finish our conversation (the Peet's coffee was closing super early, and the only other place in the same mini mall was a soft-serve ice cream joint!)
So we walked to the sidewalk to peek for open restaurants, saw the name ("It sounds so down-home and cozy!), and dashed across the street!
O MAN- am I ever glad that we did!!
The place was completely empty when we first walked in (midweek, around 6:30 pm) - but orders were coming thru their 'Grub Hub' alert and calls coming in for pick up.
We grabbed a table, and the man at the counter said to just take a seat, he'd bring us 'everything'.
Without even yet knowing what kind of food it was, we were served up a super yum appetizer of radishes, olives and pickles!! We were kind of shocked - placed don't even offer BREAD anymore... and here we were getting this little gourmet treat before even looking at menus!
We ordered a bunch of appetizers, including the Hummus plate (HEAVENTLY, rich, creamy, dreamy, and of course came with light, crispy lebanese pita), the cheese dumplings (O MY GOSH SOOOOO GOOD - crispy, rich, but very mellow - so good!) and the deep-fried cauliflower - which I have to admit I wasn't excited about at first - my friend ordered it saying how good this can be -
and MAN was she RIGHT!!!
Everything was a home-run. We had a couple Perriers, and it was just the must awesome surprise to have accidentally stumbled on such a find!!
They have whole full rich dinners and lunches, and I cannot WAIT to go back for those!!
If you live ANYWHERE NEAR (or happen to be in) the SFV - YOU GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE. Insanely good!
MUST...
Read moreAfter spending the morning mountain biking I was in the mood for some good old Lebanese food. I Googled the closest one to my area and came upon Mona. I walked in and was greeted by George, a fellow Lebanese, the chef. I ordered foul, a traditional late breakfast dish consisting of boiled Fava beans with a little Garbanzo beans, chopped garlic and olive oil served with warm pita. Since I was really hungry, I ordered a beef kabob plate too. I told George that I wasn't aware of the place despite driving past the plaza daily. " Try the food and maybe you'll be back" he replied in Lebanese, the most charming of all Arabic dialects. Well, try the "foul" I did and for a moment I felt like I was back in Lebanon at my grandma's brunch table. It was fresh, authentically aromatic, and amazingly flavorful. The diced tomatoes on top were a beautiful touch contributing to both aesthetic and taste. Thank you George for a most savory Sunday brunch. I most definitely be back. I will give my review of the beef kabob later as I'm saving...
Read moreMona’s was a great find and I'm a picky eater. I saw my people's (Armenian) food in the area and came to what I thought was Sasoon Restaurant, but turned out it was replaced with Mona's. Lebanese, Armenian, same thing, so I decided to give it a go. It's rare that I find a place that serves delicious hummus and beef kabobs. Thank you for being one of very few on my list.
The place had a few groups of customers dining in during lunch hour and it seemed to be run by an elder gentleman and a host/waitress. The gentleman greeted me and took my to-go order. Although the beef kabob was above average cost, it was also above average quality and taste.
The kabob was marinated and cooked to perfection. The salad was dressed exactly how I like it. And the hummus was as good as it gets.
My only comment to ownership is - please provide your take out customers more durable utensils. I absolutely despise getting cheap utensils that can't even stay steady by a grain of rice. I'm sure nobody enjoys having...
