This place is new, and unfortunately, it shows. My wife and I ordered multiple dishes including the ribeye steak, and honestly, it was one of the worst steaks we’ve ever had. The flavor was so off that I literally had to spit it out—it tasted like something was wrong with how it was aged or seasoned. I was so shocked at how bad it was that I literally asked our server if other customers had complained, and he admitted that three other customers had already raised serious complaints about the steak, in a time period where the restaurant had only been open a couple weeks. I wasn't surprised but that was infuriating. If they know the dish is bad, why are they still serving it? Why let us order it and completely ruin our dinner? It felt careless and disrespectful to their customers.
We also tried the white chocolate dessert, which wasn’t good either. This place tries too hard to be fancy instead of tasty. Frankly some of their dishes really sucked. We saw another table that ordered different plates send back their main course as well.
Overall, we paid for all of our food, even the disgusting steak we sent back to throw away, and left the restaurant very disappointed. In fact, it was so disappointing that we ended up stopping for fast food on the way home. My wife and I are not picky eaters and have NEVER complained about the taste of a steak before, but this place should change their name from "Fire to Table" to "Fire to Trash".
The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff was genuinely friendly, and the empanadas were actually pretty good. But overall, the main dishes we came for were unacceptable, and I would not recommend this restaurant unless they seriously...
Read moreIf you're looking for elevated authentic South American food, this is it! Alto just opened in Studio City with Michelin-trained chefs doing tableside cocktails that are pure theater. Beautiful restaurant, but beware it is expensive. Great place to bring someone you want to impress.
⭐️ The Star (Must order): Chipa and criollo breads - life-changing! That herb butter will send you to the moon. Also the asado banderita short rib where you can actually taste the open fire. 🚫 The Villain (Don't order): The Potato side dish. Looks gorgeous but tastes pretty flat - get another side instead. 💵 Ticket Price (Wallet damage): $$$ - Those breads are $18 each and it adds up quick, but honestly worth it for the experience. ✨ Vibe Check: Upscale but fun, made to impress. Perfect for date night or when you want to show off. The tableside cocktail service is incredible and everyone here is so passionate about what they do.

That said, this place can be easily misunderstood.
… Misunderstood by those whom have never been to Argentina or Uruguay. Our food is simple and fresh. It carries no fanfare. It’s just delicious as it is. Because we believe stripping away complexity is how you connect to the foods soul. Those people, who crave haute cuisine, will miss the point of Alto and are left wanting more.
… misunderstood by those whom grew up in Argentina eating traditional dishes like chipa, provoleta, empanadas… because these are common, everyday dishes to enjoy with family and friends. While Argentineans feel welcomed by these heartwarming foods, they will struggle to notice the difference between a seemingly elevated dish and our common dishes.
At the center of the disconnect is PRICE. This place is very expensive. The high tags will cause sticker shock to most, leaving both rioplatenses and non-rioplatenses needs unmet and...
