Huge props to Jimmy R, who extended an invite to hang with the freshest crew around. While we were out hiking, he told tales of a Yelper from a faraway land... New Jersey. Wanting to make a good first impression, I headed to LA Fitness to get in some pull-ups. Yes, with the assisted pull-up machine, thank you very much. But LA Fitness kicked everyone out at 5pm, so having no where else to go, I headed straight to El Compadre and saddled up for some free chips and salsa... and a Sol, which the bartenders couldnt believe they didnt carry, and apologized profusely... if you consider "profusely" as more than one time. As the Mariachi band set up, I wanted to request that Ramses song from Nacho Libre, but didnt know the title, and I didnt get to hear all the words, as Ramses interrupted Nacho's performance. I kept checking my phone to see if Jimmy might show up early, but what I saw instead, shook me to my core. It was a check in from Nadia Q. I had wanted to meet her for years, and I scoured the room for plumes of red hair, but alas there was none to be found. And all of a sudden, the group arrived. Mario, Nadia, Nubia, Jimmy, Alex, Rito, and finally the guest of honor, Dalia! (see photo)

El compadre is eloquently decorated with multi colored lights surrounding the bar and tables, setting the vibe thats great to bring people together. You’re greeted with music playing by a live band, at the entrance you’re met with fantastic service too. Everything about this restaurant appears as perfection, until you eat your meal. We had ordered tacos, camarones cancun and a vegetarian burrito. The food is subpar, gentrified Mexican food. They attempted to garnish our sour cream with a mere piece of cilantro and our tacos with sliced olives. The restaurant lacks authenticity and the food lacks flavor. El compadre is the best representation of gentrification in LA as the prices are high for food that hardly keeps up with the great atmosphere. If you’re looking for a restaurant with delicious cuisine and authenticity then El comprade is not your place. However if you’re going out to grab drinks with friends or perhaps a business meeting then this is the place to go.

This is classic Mexican-American food. Started with a basket of tortilla chips and a just right salsa. A little kick, nice consistency. I went with the combo #1. El Padrino. A small steak, cheese enchilada and a beef taco. With rice, beans and a small side of guacamole. There's the before and after photos. Steak was cooked nicely medium rare. Enchilada sauce was very tasty and cheese very gooey. Taco might have been a little over cooked, but it was full of flavor. Guac was awesome. I did add a little salsa to it. Rice and beans also good. Extensive menu. I'll be back to try a few items, like the carnitas. Maybe the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo and the Steak Tampiquena or Steak and Shrimp. As a start! It's a little noisy, but in a festive way and service was a little slow, but it was packed at 6pm on a Wednesday.

This visit was on Aug 15th. The inside is very very dark. The menu font is tiny. I had to use my phones flashlight to even see the menu and even then it was difficult to read. The music was also very loud, we could barely hear each other. Our server sucked, I don't remember his name but we had to ask other servers to go find him for us so we could order anything and pay our bill or get napkins/salt/etc brought to our table. My uncle recommended this place and while he thoroughly enjoyed his food, mine was bland. I ordered the burrito combo and I asked the waiter if it had sauce on it, he said yes, so I asked for it to be replaced with cheese dip. Well after a very awkward and frustrating exchange, I found out they don't have a plain cheese dip, but a queso bean dip one, but the waiter was adamant that the kitchen couldn't put cheese or queso on my burrito because it came "dry". So then why did he tell me it had sauce on it in the beginning when I asked?? He told us they use mozzarella for the cheese so when my sister took over the exchange, because I was too confused and flustered with him, if they could put that cheese on it he said no. Okay.. at that point I just said forget it and bring it how it comes. The rice was good, my burritos were okay. The portion sizes were great in comparison to the price. And our waiter brought us out the queso bean dip, which we didn't ask for, but my uncle said we weren't charged for it, so I'm sure it was because we were all left confused over the whole cheese burrito fiasco - it was really tasty too, I recommend ordering that. My sister didn't like the flavor of the red sauce on her meal, but otherwise said it was okay. The multiple other wait staff we asked for things were all very nice and apologetic that our waiter was MIA most...

Had a small work holiday celebration with a party of 6 here in mid-December. This was my first time here. We went on a recommendation from one of my coworkers. I won't be returning. The food was just fine. Nothing special. But the service was bad. I made a reservation weeks in advance to ensure a table. One member of our group arrived before everyone else. She stated there was a reservation, provided name, party size and time, she was told no and hostess walked away. After 10 minutes of standing there, someone else helped and sat her. Once the group was seated we ordered a guacamole for the table, 2 sodas, a margarita and waters for the table. The guacamole never came. When the drinks were dropped off we had to ask for waters again since they didn't come. Waiter came back to take our food order and still no waters or guacamole. When the food came we had to ask for water again! At this point we also canceled the guacamole since it never came. Food was just dropped off and we weren't able to order more drinks. I signaled for the check. After 10 minutes I went looking the waiter and asked for the check. Due to being in a hurry I paid there at the station. Once I got back to the table, we noticed that they had charged the guacamole they never brought out. When I pointed this out, the waiter stated he couldn't do refund to my card and gave $12 cash (guacamole was $11.99 plus tax - so I was shorted). Due to being in a hurry, I took the cash and left. I wasn't much impressed with the food and the service left me cold. I'm not...

Came for a birthday dinner. It was a disaster. Zero stars wouldn’t even be enough. Firstly, the hostess LOST my reservation for 11 people, tried to claim that I made it at the other location (but I looked back in my phone log, it was for this location). They manage to seat us, but all the way in the back by mish-mashing tables together. And then they promptly forget about us. It took one full hour to take our DRINK ORDER. Drinks come out 40+ minutes later, two of them are wrong. The poor waiter seemed completely overwhelmed. We order food, it must have come out another full hour later, cold and barely edible. All said and done, we were there for over 3 hours. When I confront the manager, she was totally antagonistic, denying my experience and saying that this was all par for the course. This woman should not be working in food service. If anyone from upper management is reading this — FIRE HER. she is not doing you any favors. It was shocking. I’ve been to this restaurant many times and this has NEVER been my experience (nor had it been at any restaurant). She only comped ONE drink on a $450 bill. The people ahead of us at the valet were also complaining about the abysmal food/service, so it wasn’t just us. Absolutely ruined our birthday dinner. This was a complete and utter insult. I’ll never be back, and I’m going to tell everyone I know not to come, too. As a neighborhood resident, this was extremely...
