Checked in for two nights in July, '19. King studio room. Positives: Quite clean. Treadmill & other workout facilities were in an extra-cool room and in great shape. Pool was larger than most average pools, but not very deep and no hot tub. Breakfast had a good variety. The sausage links were good, same as I would've served at home. Andouille sausage with peppers was very good and hot. I really liked them, but my system didn't agree later. Coffee is available almost 24/7 and good. Not so good parts: My Marriott account lists that I prefer foam pillows and feather-free room. (I am actually allergic to feathers.) As I checked in at 11 PM the first night, my top pillow on my side of the bed was foam and I didn't notice or check out the other pillows. Never had an issue to at any other Marriott family hotels before. My arm kept falling asleep and waking my up. It was under the bottom pillow, and for reference, I weigh 135. Same arm was also hot and splotchy when I got up the next morning. Second night, I was trying to get comfortable again. Started feeling up the bottom pillow and noticed the quills of the feathers(!!) in the bottom pillow. Checked my husband's two pillows. They were both feather. Three of four pillows feather pillows when I asked for no feather pillows. :( Called front desk which quickly brought up foam pillows, and I wanted my husband to give them the feather pillows. They said we could keep them, which would probably have been convenient for the maid or someone else, but I needed them out of the room! I am allergic to feathers. My arm had been falling asleep the first night also due to the weight of the feather pillows, which made for a very restless sleep, waking up often. The icemaker, you need to turn that off at night to sleep in a king studio. The A/C works well, but if you need quiet, you'll need to turn the thermostat up at night. If you need quiet, also ask for a room on the top floor and on the front side, (above front desk), of the hotel. On more positive notes, when all of these changes were made, we did get a very good sleep the second night. I also loved the design of the room and bathroom with sliding glass doors. No shower curtain trying to wrap me like a burrito. On a final not-so-good note, the one thing Marriott could do quite easily would be too upgrade the toilet paper. I understand they are probably trying to spare themselves plumbing problems, but their paper made the store brand paper I buy look regal. I give this 4 out of 5 stars. There were a lot of nice things. Popcorn in the room was a nice surprise. The PEOPLE were great, including the other guests staying. Everyone was proper, friendly, and well behaved, and this on a NASCAR weekend... actually some of the nicer people were talking about racing later in the day. My husband and I were just there while our daughter visited a friend at nearby Bellarmine U. The area is good with lots of shopping and food options, quick to downtown. I would give this hotel 5 stars if it weren't for the feather incident. Really ruined the...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Residence Inn at Oxmoor after being notified my mother was in the hospital. I booked the room for a week but ended up staying almost three weeks. In that time, I got to know a number of the staff who were very kind to me, making me feel like family staying in their home. The facility is clean, comfortable, and their nightly complementary dinners were really a nice bonus. I had to extend my stay twice which was easy. In addition, I had an issue on the first night of my stay. I mentioned this to the staff the next morning, and was immediately met with both an apology AND a discount on my room for the night. In business, its not about having issues or not having issues, its about how those issues are addressed by the staff. The staff in this hotel are amazing and its clear they all enjoy their work. From the front desk folks who great you with a smile each time you walk in the lobby, to the housekeepers, to the folks who work the food area, each are really happy to be there.
This kindness and caring was really helpful, given the reason I was there and a couple of people really stood out. Julie works mornings and, after learning why I was staying there, asked me each morning how my mother was doing and if there was progress in her recovery. That small gesture really helped start my day off nicely given what I was dealing with. Each day, her smile helped make things just a little easier on me which really was a comfort. The other was the housekeeping staff.
In hotels, we all know that we have to be mindful of leaving valuables out as not everyone is honest and things can go missing. One morning, in my absentminded state, I left an obviously expensive necklace laying on the bedside table. I didn't even realize I had forgotten it until I returned to the room that evening. When I walked in, I noticed the room had been cleaned and the trash taken out. I walked into the bedroom to take off my jewelry and panicked when I realized my necklace wasn't on my neck. I realized then I had forgotten to put it on and was terrified that since housekeeping had come, it was gone. I looked over at the table where I had kept it, and, not only was it still there, it was in the shape of a heart. Again, this small gesture that showed these folks really cared about their guests made my stay feel more like being at a family member's home as opposed to a hotel.
The folks in this hotel really are amazing and from now on, this is the ONLY place I will stay while...
Read moreMy fiancé had an extended stay at this hotel for over 4 months for work (I was there about 2 months) and we cannot say enough great things about this place. Sometimes we would forget that we were staying at a hotel. They did an amazing job creating an atmosphere that feels like 'home'. The employees and the hotel itself are very welcoming and inviting. The lobby, dining area, and rooms are decorated very modern and tastefully. Not only is there a fireplace in the lobby that you can gather around, but outside there is a huge patio with another fireplace, tons of seating, and even a grill that you can use! Even though our room was large (basically the size of a one bedroom apartment) it was nice to get out of the room and hangout downstairs and still be comfortable. Every morning the breakfast was hot and delicious. The food never tasted bland. Each day they'd cook something different, which was so nice to not eat the same thing day after day. The kitchen staff were so friendly, and always greeted guests with smiles on their face. I am not a morning person, yet they always had me smiling when I came down for breakfast. The front desk staff felt like friends, they were always SO nice, wanting to know how we're doing, checking to see if we needed anything- it felt like they genuinely cared about us. I have to give a huge shoutout to Tim, as he listened and talked with me about a ton of things that were going on in our life. He even cheered me up when my dog passed away and I came down to the front desk crying because I ran out of tissues. There were several other employees that I cannot remember the names of (sorry guys) but they were all very nice and would stop what they were doing to answer my questions or concerns. And if all of that wasn't enough to make this place awesome- they also had 'mixers' on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, where there would be complimentary food and drinks in the lobby. It was a fun way to mingle with other long-term guests and make some friends in the area. We would recommend all of our family and friends to stay here if they are ever in Louisville. Thank you everyone at the Residence Inn Oxmoor for all you've done these...
