This hotel is absolutely fabulous and it was one of the best experiences I've had in some time. I came here for a work conference with a fellow coworker and we received a discount for staying here (along with other attendees.)
Walking in, the lobby is absolutely fabulous, beautifully decorated and well maintained. The staff greets you when you walk in and the front desk has at least one person, usually two working and available all the time along with a concierge.
The hotel's located right on main street so you're close to the action of downtown midland. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance along with a private parking garage. There's street parking as well, but I think it's limited to no overnight parking. Speaking of food, the H hotel also has at least one (maybe two) onsite restaurants. I know one of them is called Cafe Zinc. While we didn't eat there, it looked super nice, and worth a shot if you want.
The rooms here are amazing. High end mattress, beautifully laid out bathroom with a barn door, coffee station with a Keurig, small fridge and automatic blinds! I abused the automatic blinds and enjoyed not having outside lighting disrupt my sleep. They have a couch that's built into the wall, almost like a daybed. I tried laying on it but I didn't find it all that comfy to be honest. Plenty of charging ports, a robe, slippers and plenty of storage space for your luggage and clothing.
The TV is hidden behind a mirror and blends in with the decorum. They have a pool here and an exercise room which I did not use due to lack of time. Valet is by request and aside from a tip, part of your stay here. The concierge will take your luggage up, but don't forget to tip!
The meeting and conference rooms were fantastic. The hotel offers different sized rooms, and we used all of them. The largest I think is the Indigo where we ate and had breakfast. The catering staff did a fantastic job of serving breakfast on time and promptly at 7:30 AM, along with lunch as well for both days I was there. If something ran out, the staff refilled it immediately. In the conference rooms, they also provided a briefcase with office supplies if you should need them. I checked it out and actually had to use a few. Such items include highlighters, staplers, note cards, binder clips and other small ticket office items.
They also have a fabulous courtyard that leads out into downtown midland. They have curling set up in the middle along with tables and benches throughout. At night, the tables have gas fireplaces so you can toast your buns if it's chilly, like it was the second day we were there. Our conference didn't use the courtyard a lot, but the other convention did. We also sat outside to eat once, and it was great. The only thing lacking was the garbage cans were hard to find. I think they had one by the door but additional garbage cans would've been great.
My only complaint? The elevators were down when we arrived. I guess their renovating the two that they have in the lobby and it got annoying after a while. The repair guys were working on it and they got one up and running by the end of the day. The second one was totally out of service. I hope they get that fixed soon as carrying luggage or going up 5 flights of stairs doesn't sound exciting if you're coming and going all the time.
Overall, this hotel's a gem and everyone should stay here at least once. What a...
Read moreThe Fairfield in downtown Midland looks and feels new, despite being open for about 4 years now. It's well-maintained and clean.||||Presumably because of my elite status in Marriott's Bonvoy loyalty program, I was upgraded before arrival to a king suite. There was an unsigned handwritten note in my room thanking me for my business.||||I didn't get any kind of welcome amenity or even a bottle of water. At check-in, I was offered a choice of points or an item from the market. That wasn't correct. The correct choice is supposed be points or a $10 credit. ||||The gym is excellent. One of the better hotel gyms.||||My room was comfortable and reasonably well-appointed. Oddly, there were no accessible outlets at the nightstand on either side of the bed. The bathroom had the stupid wall-mounted dispensers in the shower with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The dispensers were mostly empty. ||||The breakfast was subpar. You can get a better breakfast at McDonald's or Starbucks. I prefer the Holiday Inn Express breakfast offerings over the Fairfield. Simple scrambled eggs (powdered?), two types of sausage patties that looked microwaved several times over, some sugary cereals, watery oatmeal, and sugary juice. That was about it. The only good thing was the coffee. ||||The best part of the Fairfield is its location. It's within walking distance of Midland's improving downtown, which has a handful of restaurants. Dow and other offices are also nearby. The baseball stadium is also within walking distance. ||||All things considered, I would consider returning if the rate was good. You just can't beat the location when compared to the other chain hotels by the old, depressing shopping mall at the other end of Midland. It would be nice if the Fairfield was a Courtyard or other brand with a real restaurant and bar. It seems like a missed...
Read moreI gave the Fairfield Inn Midland a very good rating because the hotel is relatively new and has a lot of nice features (good design, great gym, good location for those wanting to be downtown). However, Marriott Bonvoy elite status recognition was nonexistent.||||I was never acknowledged by name (as in Mr Smith), thanked for staying, or asked how my stay was. Likewise, my elite status level was never acknowledged and I wasn’t even offered a bottle of water at check-in.||||My only complaint about the rooms is that for a relatively new hotel there is considerable wear-and-tear, both on the walls in the room and the walls in the hallways outside the rooms. Also, the very dark carpeting in guest rooms already showed '||]\stains. They would have been better off with wood or mock wood flooring.||||I did like that the pantry sells some decent supermarket quality wine. That’s a very nice feature since most Fairfield properties don’t have a bar. However, the rest of the pantry was dismal. No granola bars and no yogurt.||||Also, when I stayed they weren't serving a real breakfast. Just a very poor grab-and-go bag with coffee. ||||All things considered, I would consider staying here again because the location is great but recognition of Marriott’s highest level elite...
