Bookmarks — Local services in Midland

I hate to give a slightly negative review, but unfortunately I didn't have a particularly good experience visiting here with my wife. After we left, my wife and I both mentioned how uncomfortable we felt with several employees staring at us while we browsed. It was very odd. So I took off a star for that. It's advertised as a used bookstore, but there were many new books, while the used books had no prices on them. So that unfortunately cost them a second star from the rating as one shouldn't have to keep inquiring regarding the price of a book. The place is quite small and a bit too dark so due to the poor lighting, I have to remove a 3rd star. I am giving this place 2 stars, however, because there is a lovely (though small) reading area in the back which I thought was rather nice. And we were greeted when we came in....well, sort of — they stared at us and eventually a lady asked us if there was "anything specific you're looking for?" But she didn't say "Hi" or "Welcome" or anything of that sort initially. Now that I think about it, I tried to be friendly and greeted them first because I thought their staring was odd. Also, there was a young man leaning on the counter at the register the entire time who was also staring at us. Absolutely stunning and amazing place. I sit there regularly due to working in the downtown area and they're some of the most welcoming people Around. The owner is the sweetest, and she puts SO much effort into her store and into making it a wonderful environment. Wonderful selection of new and used books, and even has a members program. Hosts many book clubs and likes to support Michigan authors and local businesses. All of the workers are welcoming and amazing to talk to. I always recommend coming here before going to bigger chain places because Bookmarks supports a local businesses while being Able to order any book online...

I am in love with this bookstore. It is the smallest one I’ve ever been in but that just adds to the charm and magical feel of it. They had a little art desk my son loved. The fireplace is so cozy.

Most importantly the owner and cashier were extremely kind and personable. Thank you for supporting me as a local author and ordering a few copies of my book to try out.

A must stop place to shop for any book lover on your Christmas list. Just had the feel of whimsical pure Christmas magic. Completely over the moon about this...
