We’ve driven by The Tridge so many times on the way from here to there (we live in the thumb) but have never actually stopped until today. We are really glad we did! What a fantastic place! For those that don’t understand what “The Tridge” is - technically it is 3 brides that come together into one. It’s beautiful. I read that they recently did a reno on it - and it is well worth it! All I can say is, WOW! It looks fantastic! Beautifully done. But The Tridge is so much more than just the three bridges. It’s the beautiful parks that surround it, it’s the rivers, and it’s the people. Midland is full of some very friendly, outgoing, authentic folks. They are kind and down to earth. They stop to say hello and interact with you. They smile and laugh and are just out enjoying the day, and they don’t mind sharing it with you. I enjoy this about Midland. So today, we walked along The Tridge where families were out enjoying a beautiful summer day. They were out riding bikes and scooters. People were running and walking. People stopped to chat and interact. When our young son was afraid his dog would leap from The Tridge, a woman stopped to talk to him, to reassure him that she wouldn’t, that it was impossible for her to. She didn’t have to, but she took the time out of her day to. Thank you again, wherever you are. There is a place in the park where kayakers and canoers can put in to paddle on the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers, or it looks like you can even rent them. There were people lounging in hammocks in the shade of the trees. There is a Farmers Market, not open while we were there. And it looked as though there may have been a splash pad, but I’m not positive on that one. All in all, The Tridge is a great place to spend any day! Run, relax, read a book, paddle the river, take a walk, go for a bike ride, go fishing, meet a friend, make a new one, whatever your pleasure,...
Read moreThe Tridge in Midland is one of the city’s most unique and iconic landmarks, and it’s so much more than just a bridge. This three-way wooden footbridge sits at the meeting point of the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers, and each arm leads you to something different — making it the perfect hub to start an adventure.
One arm takes you into Chippewassee Park, a large recreational area with ball fields, playgrounds, and plenty of green space. This is also where the Midland Dog Park is located, which is a big bonus if you’re traveling with pets. Another arm leads to St. Charles Park, a quieter spot that offers open grassy areas and peaceful river views. The third direction takes you straight into Downtown Midland, where you can grab food, shop, or connect directly to the Pere Marquette Rail Trail, a paved 30+ mile path that’s great for biking, jogging, or walking.
The Tridge itself is well maintained, handicap accessible, and has beautiful views of both rivers. It’s a popular gathering place and you can feel the community vibe as soon as you’re there. When we visited, there were a ton of kids dressed up for homecoming photos on the bridge and in the parks nearby. Honestly, it’s a fantastic idea — the bridge, the river, and the parks make for a really stunning backdrop.
What I love most about the Tridge is its versatility. Families with kids have space to play, dog owners have a park right there, and outdoor enthusiasts can hop on the trails. It’s also a great spot for photography — whether you’re catching the sunset over the rivers, snapping pictures of the bridge itself, or just documenting a day out with...
Read moreI grew up in Midland. The tridge has always been a great place to hang out. Midland would have events down by the tridge every week, often including music. Just this weekend we went there for pictures and there was an art fair along main street.
The tridge is where the rail trail begins, so a lot of people park there for a run or bike. It is also right by the farmers market which is every Saturday and Wednesday morning. There is also a splash pad if you walk down the trail a little ways. You can also rent a canoe to row down the river.
On the 2nd side there is a skate park, dog park, and kids park. There is a pavilion for parties. The family statue on the hill. They are currently working on the us20 bridge so it looks like you can't park on that side for now. Big bummer on that.
The 3rd side has baseball diamonds and a really awesome disc golf course! My husband and I loved going disc golfing all the time. It is free, but well kept last time I was there.
The tridge itself is awesome too. You'll always see tourists taking pictures. The center of the tridge has a really nice sitting area with room for walking and pictures. The walkway is spacious and will have bicyclists coming through. No cars or motorcycles allowed. Everything listed is completely free to venture, except the canoe rentals. It is totally worth the visit!
Lastly, this is the area my husband and I met, fell in love, and had our wedding pictures. We come back every so often to get updated family photos. I...
