This was a business trip. My company used this hotel as an off site location for a planning meeting. Check-in was a nice experience. The bellman was busy, so one of the front desk clerks offed to help with my luggage! My room was a very pleasant surprise. It was clean! They paid attention to details in the room, even the shower and coffee pot were Very clean. Usually there is scale in the coffee pot and mold in areas of the shower, not here! Our meeting room was clean but small for Friday, however, the hotel had a lot going on. Saturday 's experience was in a large enough room to have breakfast and snacks served in the same location which made it convenient. The breakfast was served on time, which allowed me to start our meeting on time! All of the snacks and food during the meetings were just as I have come to expect from a four star hotel. And the staff was helpful and polite.
We (18 of us) had dinner both nights as a group. Friday night was off site, but Saturday night was on site in the hotel's the one 18 restaurant, that is the real name of it. This is where they feel short. Our reservation was for 6:30 pm, we were seated before time, around 6:18 pm. Our servers were polite and professional, drink orders were taken, but it took to long for them to return with all of the drinks, which mentioned the time table started backing up. We didn't receive our main course until between 8:45 and 9:15. And the food was not worth the wait! 3 of our steaks were not cooked to order. We ordered them medium, they came to us rare. Red bloody meat on the inside so bad that we either couldn't eat them or one person took it home to finish cooking it. By the time the wait staff checked back and offered to have them replaced, it was too late. I shared that I didn't want to wait another 2 hours on the replacement. I enquired if the cooks was new, and was told that they were not. Now this is what hotels due, service groups at one time. And no, it was not a full restaurant, going in or leaving. Maybe the weddings requirements stressed the kitchen, however, they should not have accepted our reservation if they knew that the kitchen would be at there limit of accommodation!
Breakfast was a bust for the same reason. The cafe opened at 9 am, I arrived at 9:05, no one greeted me so I attempted to seat my self. There was only one table occupied and being serviced by a wait staff. He stopped what he was doing to loudly inform me from across the room that I must wait to be seated as I needed a reservation! I shared that no one was at the door nor was the sign up to that effect. He said the hostess was on the outside seating other people. I returned to the podium, and waited five minutes, at which time another wait staff came and checked the tablet and informed me that the entire cafe was reserved, and I could be seated outside ( in 60 degree weather, where the food would become cold before I could finish it) or at the counter with my back to the open cafe. I never accept a seating arrangement like that. So, all other paying guests in the hotel were not able to have breakfast before the road trip home. I asked Google for the nearest open place to eat, it came up with the H hotel. I asked for a different location, the next location was twenty miles away. Accepting reservations for a complete cafe without regard for the rest of the paying guests was unacceptable in my opion.
This hotel did have free valet parking with free charging for my HEV.
On check out, I asked for the manger to call me, which he...
Read moreUsed the H Hotel as our venue for our ceremony, reception and lodging.
Let me start by saying that our wedding was the most wonderful day. The venue was clean and beautiful (it's a lot of white and neutral and so it goes with everything). The set up is nice - we had the guys get ready in their hotel room and the girls get ready in the "Gold Room", which was down the hall and around the corner from the Ballroom (reception location) and Courtyard (ceremony location). We had access to the area beginning in the early morning so that we could decorate, which was enough time with a 4:30 ceremony. Our guests liked that everything was at one site and there wasn't driving for them. Most of our guests stayed at the hotel and so it was easy for them to go upstairs after the reception.
The reason for the 3/5 stars is the poor customer service we received on the weekend of our wedding. We had been working with one of the coordinators for about 8 months in the process of planning the wedding ceremony and reception. The plan was for her to be present for rehearsal, and the day of the wedding, and then would hand off to a staff member who would remain on site for the evening hours. We were to have the rehearsal in the courtyard (where the ceremony would be the next day).
A couple of days before the wedding, I was notified via email that she wouldn't be present for the rehearsal, or the wedding day. We had to call and ask for them to find someone else to be present for that hour. We never had contact from any staff member during rehearsal and so last minute questions about the layout of the pergola and unity candle set up or which doors we could enter from couldn't be answered.
The day before the rehearsal, we received an email that we were unable to use the courtyard space for any of our rehearsal time, because another event wanted the space. We were offered either an interior room (a conference room) or the yard outside of the hotel. We were extremely frustrated, settled on the room (rather than be outside in the yard), and wrote down things we needed to see or figure out for the wedding day, when we could get into the courtyard.
As the coordinator couldn't be present for the wedding day, we were told that we would have access to another manager all day. When I arrived at 9AM to begin setup of the reception/ballroom, I ran into a staff member and asked for that manager; the manager wasn't going to be in until noon. Again, were were left frustrated and to figure it out on our own.
Of note: the bartender staff were great, the desk staff were helpful. The catering staff were wonderful and kept on top of the head table's drinks.
Part of what you are paying for when you rent a space is the staff to help your day go along smoothly. I understand that things conflicts come up, but a plan should've been put in place by the H Staff to manage those conflicts, without us having to call and request it. The reason that our wedding was so wonderful was because I have friends in event management who stepped up and fixed the problems. The venue is great, but if I were to do it again, I would get the management's phone number...
Read moreMy wife and I go to Midland annually to visit the Dow Gardens, Tridge, parks, and downtown area during their summer events. We usually stay in some of the other hotels in the area and just walk in, etc. This time we thought we would give The H Hotel a try, and now we won't be staying any where else when we make our visit. ||The Hotel is located right in the old downtown area next to amazing restaurants, candy stores, parks, and shopping district. All within walking distance. Midland has summer events and blocks off a street in the downtown area where locals and visitors are able to mingle, and have a little fun in the downtown area. They have live music on the weekends, and activities for kids. ||The H staff were all amazing, very friendly and helpful and always on their feet trying to make sure all the guests have everything they need, or can help with. Ali, Samuel & Olivia were the stand outs for us, but everyone encountered was amazing. Those three were the staff we chatted with the most, and they were always on top of their game representing their place of work, but really just were the best. ||The Hotel is very clean, and they keep them that way while you are staying. We were impressed that one time we had went out for a walk to come back and see that they refilled some coffee and tea my wife was drinking and replaced towels, etc. Very nice. The hallways, elevators, pool area, gym, and the grounds were all very well maintained and I did not see one over flowed trash bag, or any liter, etc anywhere on the premises. They keep up on the grounds and the rooms really well. ||We stayed on the club floor and just wanted to say that the club snacks and breakfast were amazing. I usually skip on hotel breakfasts, because I am a picky eater. However, they made some delicious food for breakfast, it was not your usual "Cereal, Nasty eggs, waffle maker" set up. They made a mushroom quiche one morning, and some bacon and make your own yogurt bar. Along with having bottle juice, and fresh coffee's etc. It was very nice. The other food set ups were very nice as well, we wanted to always check them out to see. ||They have an "Adult Swim" after 11pm. So, if you want to use the Hot tub without kids running around you can utilize that time to go swimming and enjoy the tub. Showers were clean, and they always had towels out even at the late hours. ||Overall, we had a great time in Midland, if you are wanting a Hotel that makes your stay EXTRA special then you really need to stay at the H. I know we are sold on their service and value for a wonderful getaway to the...
