Where I come from, I don’t feel very welcomed in the restaurants I walk in. When I entered this building, a gust of wind along with the wonderful scent of the meats took control of my body. I couldn’t help but feel this is the restaurant I will finally feel welcomed in. The dark, wooden floor reminded me of the dark oak jungles I used to roam back in my home country. I was standing there in shock just observing my surroundings like a Barbary stag does in the safari making sure predators aren’t lingering nearby. Just as I was about to pass out from pure shock of my surroundings, a dark prince approached me and tapped me on the shoulder. This kind young man who when they the name of “Ctae”, then gently said to me in a warm welcoming tone , “ May I help you with anything? I’m over at the bar area if you need anything at all.” This man just may have been the kindest person I’ve ever met at a restaurant. The welcoming smile made me feel as if I was back in my home country, running through the thick jungles. I sat down at a booth, and I indulged in the highest quality brisket my taste buds have ever fondled. And the man who brought the food out to me? It was none other than Ctae. He once again approached me with his welcoming smile and asked if I needed anything else. It was at that moment that I decided that Ctae was a one in a million employee. There aren’t many like him out there anymore. The fresh beer I drank was nothing like the ones back home. This one was crisp and recommended to me by the same man, Ctae. The sensation of the refreshing beer flowing down my esophagus, was comparable to that of climbing the top of Mount Everest and finding the freshest water reservoir nearby. This just may be my new favorite restaurant. Especially if Ctae is still there, you will expect to see me there very often. This gives me a reason to stay here in America then to go back to the jungles of the Congo basin in Africa. This restaurant and service gets 5 stars from...

My husband and I have eaten here twice a week apart. Our first experience we split a three meat platter and everything was amazing (tri-tip, pulled pork and brisket plus Mac and cheese, green beans and corn bread). It fed both of us twice and the price was more than fair. The sides were phenomenal, Mac and cheese was creamy and Smokey, amazing corn bread and delicious green beans.

We came back today and tried the ribs and Texas brisket tacos. The ribs were amazing, definitely worth the wait, as was the mashed potatoes (both available after 4 only). The tacos had good flavor but were absolutely swimming in grease. With only grilled onions and meat, I don’t know if that’s how they’re normally served pooled in oil, but it was pretty off putting. A bummer since the flavor was great but needed either coleslaw or to be strained if it’s gonna sit in a flour taco since you’re literally swallowing oil. The Mac and cheese was just ok. Seemed very different than the prep from the week before.

Overall has a cool ambiance. Service has been good, although we ordered burnt ends to go but our server forgot when we were ready to leave. Definitely has a lot of potential but some of the food seems inconsistent in its delivery and prep. Maybe different pit masters each time, not sure. Overall would recommend to try something new and support...

Boy oh boy where do I even begin… Well, first and foremost, I’d like to stop for a second and just give credit where credit is due. The second you walk into the restaurant, the atmosphere is just indescribable. I mean, you have families everywhere enjoying a meal together, you have the youth hanging out in friend groups just having a good time, enjoying a meal, no phones in sight, its just truly amazing, and the smell of the food as as well is fantastic too, 10/10 atmosphere for sure. Service was amazing, was attended pretty quickly, every staff member was very kind. But one person did stand out to me the most, not because of his immaculate looks, but also the way he talks with people, the way he actually listens to what you have to say, the way he jokes around with you and just overall a truly amazing one of a kind young man, and it was just an honor to be server by none other than Ctae. Ctae is honestly the kindest guy there. He’s funny, he brings life to the table with his stories, his advice on things, and just overall an amazing guy. We need more people like Ctae working in restaurants like Molasses, and just more people like him overall. He’s truly an amazing guy. 10/10 service. Again, food was amazing, drinks were amazing, everything was amazing. I’m very much looking forward to coming back with...

First and very important, the service ! Aaron, our waiter was awesome, he gave good suggestions on menu items, and had an A+ personality. Next and also very important, the FOOD. Be prepared to leave stuffed and with more than enough food for later. My boyfriend and I both had the two meat platter ( Brisket and St. Louis style Ribs) this platter came with two sides. We both chose the BBQ baked beans and macaroni. It also came with cornbread which was sooooo moist, sweet and amazing. The ribs were fall off the bone, delightful. There were about 6 or 7 BBQ sauces to choose from, my fave was the Korean BBQ sauce which had a zesty kick and robust flavor to it. The Brisket had a nice smoky taste to it. We each ordered cocktails from the bar as well. I had the strawberry Moscow Mule and he had a Maple Old Fashioned, they were both yummy and not extremely boozy so we were fine for the long drive home. For dessert we chose the apple cobbler with a flaky and buttery crust with a huge serving of vanilla bean ice cream. Soooooo good ! All in all, 10 out of 10 for service, atmosphere, price and 9.5 out of 10 for food. If the macaroni were more like homemade it would have been a sure fire 10/10. Go say hi to Aaron at the Molasses BBQ restaurant in Midland!

Cracklings / pork rinds were spot on. Tried the BBQ sauce with them and they paired very well. My son had the peach sweet tea, and it is pretty darn tasty. The Korean BBQ sauce is slightly sweet, and pretty spicy. It paired well with the red beans and rice. The Texas sauce is good, spicy. I do not usually like mustard sauces, but this one was exceptional. It was fantastic with the pulled pork. I tasted the Carolina liquid, and the flavor was fine, but I pass on that style. The real star though is the TC, which is traverse City Cherry BBQ sauce. It goes well with everything, but what a match with that turkey. We tried ordering brisket, but they were already out at 5:30p on a Saturday. They had a busy day. So we had the tri-tip instead. It was... so-so. The corn bread was really excellent. The macaroni and cheese was lacking. For me, and my son agreed, it didn't work as mac and cheese at a BBQ joint. The red beans and rice were good, but I wouldn't write home about them. We looked at the pecan pie for dessert, and it looked delicious, but quite frankly we were so full.

A great non chain BBQ restaurant in the heart of downtown Midland. Food is smoked on site, and due to the length of time involved in the smoking process, some items may not be available. Food is fresh and well prepared with six different sauces for the entrees. Full bar with talented bartenders. Pepsi products are available. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and competent, also very willing to accommodate. Dinner is moderately expensive, but portion sizes are good. Protein and sides are reminiscent of an old fashioned smoked BBQ celebration. Family friendly, but not kid friendly. There are no distractions or special kids menus, but plates arrive quickly so there is little down time. Only 2 rest facilities in the restaurant. Both rooms are unisex with changing facilities and are very clean. I would advise going early as the restaurant fills up quickly around dinner time and can get quite loud. Overall, an excellent dining experience that I highly recommend.
