Sometimes appearance isn’t what it seems. The hotel is beautiful from the outside and in the lobby, but that’s it. I had high expectations for this hotel considering its age and not that old. I am extremely disappointed with the cleanliness, lack of basic services, extremely poor breakfast options, and the absence of front desk employees. It was great to be recognized and thanked upon check in by the desk agent for being an Ambassador Elite Member, but beyond that, status meant nothing. ||The first room I was given was room #402. The room was not properly cleaned. The carpet had not been vacuumed and there were a lot of dead bugs on the window seal. The sofa pillows were stained so bad and extremely dirty, I had to turn them over. I went down and requested a vacuum. They came up and vacuumed the carpet withing 15 minutes of my request. The next morning, I found several live bugs crawling on the wall in the closet. I immediately removed all my clothes from the closet. I brought my concerns to the morning desk clerk around 6:45 AM and I requested another room. He did not seem to care much (even after showing him photos of the bugs) and told me “When I return in the evening, let the desk agent know and they will try to find me another room. When I arrived back later in the evening after work, I expressed my concerns again to the front desk clerk and requested another room. She did not seem so happy with my request. After showing her the photos of the bugs, her words were “oh, that’s just lady bugs”. I don’t care what kind of bugs they are; I didn’t want them in my room. She gave me room #113 right next to the mechanical room. This room was very noisy, especially around 4:00 – 4:30 AM when the breakfast attendant arrived. Every morning, I could hear was doors slamming as she or someone else went in and out of the mechanical room. Also, the conversation between her and others was very loud. I did not sleep much. This room was also not properly cleaned. There was a used coffee on the counter and a used single serve coffee k-cup in the coffee maker. The lock / door handle had a malfunction and entering and exiting the room was extremely difficult. To get in and out of the room, I had to turn and lift on the door and handle at the same time. The tiles are coming off the wall in the bathroom. The iron had black stuff caked to it, therefore, I could not use the iron. I guess the icing on the cake was, I stayed a total of 5 nights, and never received housekeeping service. Somone did come into the room and leave fresh towels, but did not remove the dirty towels, nor did they do a room refresh.|||Breakfast was the worst that I have ever experienced at Springhill Suites. First, the eggs looked horrible, under cooked, and piled so high, the quality sucked. No regular milk for cereal. ||As an Ambassador Elite Member, I am disappointed with the lack of attention to the basic needs...
Read moreOverall it was a pleasant experience. I love the Springhill line of hotels for Marriott. I have stayed at them in two states and have been satisfied every time.
My main complaint with my most recent visit in Prattville/Millbrook, Alabama is that the doors SLAM shut, which is: A. a huge safety risk for guests, and B. very loud when you are trying to sleep or study. I had the unfortunate pleasure of people arriving at 0200 across the hall and letting the door slam/close between their two rooms for almost an hour. They woke up at 0500 and continued their lack of consideration for everyone around them. I had to work that day and I was exhausted because of the noise I could not sleep through. Some noise absorption needs to be put in place, it is by far the loudest hotel I have stayed at when people are involved. There is also a HUGE opening under the door that lets a lot of light in which I am sure is a contributor to the noise problem. The noise from the hotel and the noise from the interstate, in conjunction with the light under the doors is something that should be addressed/resolved.
The staff is phenomenal! I have stayed at this particular location twice and had exceptional service both times. The manager, Fred, is very welcoming. He always had a smile on and worked with the billing questions I had in regards to the military rate for the hotel. I enjoyed chatting with him. Quinn is another rockstar. She is made for the hospitality industry and would make a fantastic manager one day. She remembers peoples names and makes it a point to say hello to them whenever she sees them. It’s the little things like that that can make people want to return. I did not spend much time or see the rest of the staff often but the few times I did was very positive.
Pros: Beautiful bathrooms The desk is a nice workstation, but need more comfortable chair lighting and electrical/charging options were ample plenty of storage options for a longer residents very comfy mattress Free breakfast electric car charging stations (Reg &Tesla)
Cons: The fridge is very small and cannot support any frozen items, inconvenient for long term stays The A/C unit is a little loud I did find a roach twice during my 1 month stay, but I understand that it is summer charge for laundry (~5 bucks) and only one washer/dryer for entire hotel Ants overrunning property, needs to be treated (got into my electric...
Read moreI had a bad experience previously when I went to Montgomery, Alabama with a Marriott hotel that was pretty much brand new...opened only a couple of months. They had a major bug problem on the walls, woke up to a dead roach in the morning in the bathtub. Turned out they confessed to their bug problem and that they had sprayed a few days before. We were on a higher floor so that let me know that the bugs were in the walls. They did a horrible job at cleaning at that hotel and staff were rude. Needless to say after the roach, I left that Marriott chain that same day and vowed to never stay again.
We go to Alabama at least once a year and stay for about a week at least. I even started researching chains outside of Marriott because I was not going to be paying to stay with bugs.
I refused to stay at any Marrriott chains in Montgomery so I went a little further out and we stayed at the Springhill Suites in Millbrook/Prattville. We had a late flight so we didn’t even get there until early morning since we flew into Atlanta.
Immediately walking in you can smell the cleanliness of the hotel, it smells so good. Then you look around and the lobby is very clean with friendly staff. Every single person we encountered was friendly and helpful. We went to our room which was a handicap accessible room. Now at first, I wasn’t sure how the room was going to be because the door was all scratched up and there was a piece of carpet missing right outside of the door on the floor. No one would probably notice, but I did.
However, once we went into the room, I observed that everything was clean. And that wonderful smell was in our room too. I didn’t see any hair, dust or anything and trust me I’m a clean freak. I have to stay at hotels because we travel a lot, but I hate hotels. I bring my own towels and even sleep in a sleeping bag with my own pillows and pillow case. I walk around in flip flops and lay a towel on the floor of the bath tub when I take a shower for me to step on. Of course my husband calls me a weirdo and freely lays in the bed as do my kids; however, it is unlikely that I will ever do that.
That being said if I had to take a chance on a hotel to get in the bed without my sleeping bag, or to walk on the floor without my flip flops it would be at this hotel. During our trip, we stayed at another Marriott in Hattiesburg, Ms and that was gross.
I will definitely stay at this hotel each time I come and will recommend it to all...
