Our stay at Bay Club of Sandestin was an absolute disappointment from the very beginning.
We arrived on September 6, 2025, at 3:30 PM, expecting to check into a clean and ready room. Instead, we found that our assigned room had not been cleaned at all. When I addressed this issue at the front desk, rather than receiving an apology, I was treated with shocking rudeness. The front desk clerk, a woman, told me there was “no staff available to clean the room” and went as far as to say, “if you don’t like it, you can go home.”
I have traveled extensively, and this is the first time in my life I have ever been spoken to this way in a hotel. It was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.
After insisting, I was told they would “try to find someone” to clean. I was then forced to wait outside on the balcony for over an hour before any housekeeping staff finally arrived. Once they began, it took another hour and a half before the room was finally ready. By that time, our entire first evening was ruined.
The problems did not end there. Once inside, we discovered that the air conditioning unit smelled strongly of mold, making the environment unpleasant and unhealthy.
On top of this, the hotel’s advertised amenities are misleading. Their website clearly states that guests have access to the Beach Club pool and to complimentary bicycles (two bikes for up to four hours per day). However, we were flatly told that neither of these amenities were available to us. This is false advertising and a complete misrepresentation of what guests are paying for.
Following this unacceptable treatment, I submitted a formal complaint letter directly to the General Manager, Patty Shaulis, on Saturday, September 13, 2025. As of today, I have received no response whatsoever. This silence speaks volumes — it seems that the management treats guest complaints with the same disregard as their staff treats their customers.
I documented everything with photos and video evidence, which clearly show the state of the room and the conditions we experienced.
In summary: • Unclean room at check-in. • Rude and unprofessional staff (front desk clerk Tiana). • Misrepresentation of amenities (Beach Club pool and bicycles denied). • Mold smell from the air conditioner. • General Manager Patty Shaulis ignoring a formal written complaint.
This was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had, and I strongly urge future travelers to reconsider staying at Bay Club...
Read moreCheck-in was horrible. I arrived around 1:30 a.m. with a late check-in only to encounter a mechanical failure with the door lock, preventing me from entering my room. Security was called and they gave me the run-around having to call 5 different phone numbers before finally reaching a maintenance person. Every single phone number given and me calling ended in me being told it's not their property/responsibility. Because of the numerous calls made and the run-around given, it took 2 and a half hours to finally get in a room. Even the maintenance person could not access the room. Finally, I asked if they could just give me another room as it was approaching 4:00 a.m. Very poor communication and very poor systems in place. Sergeant Rhodes (allegedly head of security?) did not seem to care at all that a single woman in an unfamiliar place, in the middle of the night, attempting to start her vacation could not even enter her room. I was pretty close to just going to another hotel, just so I could sleep somewhere. Javier, the maintenance person was very empathetic and ensured I would have a place to stay that night. When I let Keana, the property manager, know what happened a couple days later, she became defensive letting me know she was awakened at 3:00 a.m. by Javier about the situation and it wasn't their fault the lock malfunctioned. She made sure to mention her 3:00 phone call a few times. Absolutely no concessions were offered, even after asking. It was difficult enough for Keana to say sorry. The Destin area is beautiful. However, I would not recommend...
Read moreWe booked a last minute trip with our time share points at Bay Club of Sandestin. Our room was an efficiency. It really worked out perfectly because it was just me and my husband. The efficiency was on the second floor in building one and had everything we needed. The only thing to keep in mind for the efficiency is it has a small fridge and no balcony. But the second floor was perfect. We were steps away from the washer/dryer facilities that are free of charge and the ice making station. There are even bags available by the ice machine. This resort was clean, quiet and safe. Not only would I recommend it, we will probably stay there again!||The resort is actually located on the bay side, so to get to the beach it is about a five minute drive. There is a tram that takes you to the beach and different spots around the area. There are three different pools you have access to, but only the pool by Sunset Bay Cafe is within walking distance. It was very nice, and there is also a Tiki Bar, Cory the bartender will take good care of you. The beach area is very crowded because it is the access area for all of the people staying at the resort, but we were able to find a spot to set up each day. At the beach there are umbrella/chair rentals available through the resort, it was $220 for the week. Also, when you check in there is a $50 resort fee. But this covers your parking, tram transportation and access...
