Made the mistake of booking through the Wyndham Hotels website to get the points form their reward program. Never again. The place was very run down. Paint and wall paper pealing off the wall, dust everywhere, spots on the bed comforter and bed sheets (I don't want to know what caused those spots). No curtain in bathroom window, which you would have to open at least a bit because the fan/extractor doesn't work in the bathroom. Mold in the bathroom and shower curtain broken at the top. I always wear my sandals when showering in hotels anyway, but this time I was even more worried about it. The curtains of the window facing the parking lot had holes and everything is very old, smelly, and not very inviting. I wouldn't care as much about things being old if they were clean but there was visible dust and bunny dust everywhere! I wish I had my sleeping bag to use in that bed... Also, after checking in, we were walking towards our room and a little boy came out of our room. My husband knock on the door and poked his head inside. The TV was on, the bed looked like it had been used and there were crumbs on the little table and a sweater on one of the chairs. We went back to the front office and the person in charge went over to check and told us it was ok and ready to go. It turns out it was the son of one of the maids, which is fine, except now the bed had crumbs all over and they didn't get back in there to clean again. Anyway, for $116 plus fee a night in Monterey, I was hoping for something better but obviously that's all you get for that much. Very disappointed but happy it was only one night. Too late to switch hotels but lesson learned and I don't care about their rewards program. Never again unless it is an emergency and then I would bring my sleeping bag and my own...

It is about 1.5 miles away from the tourist centre of Monterey and opposite a large retail park so that you can stock up at reasonable prices if needs be. The rooms are of a decent size and were clean and well decorated. The bed was comfy, the TV ands coffee facilities worked and the bathroom was a decent size and everything was working as it should. We had booked earlier that afternoon but there was an issue with the card we used to book however the motel kindly kept a room aside for us (Room 101, the accessibility room) and we resolved the matter upon arrival. This was very thoughtful of them as the motel was busy and Monterey does not have many reasonably priced places to stay with parking let alone free and on site. Room 101 is next to the manager's office and the ice machine so can suffer from some noise when people get ice or when the management staff go in and out of the back door to their office and it bangs shut however our worst problem was the very loud family in room 102 who did eventually go to sleep but started up again early the next morning. One common factor we found during our California road trip is that the Californians just use wood to build rather than concrete and as such the sound deadening for neighbouring rooms is limited and you always get creaking and footsteps from those above you. If you can manage the stairs go for the top floor, at least that way you only have to deal with the noise from your neighbours but a good bang on the wall...

Just outside the room door was what looked like bags full of trash. The TVs were very small. The WiFi did not work at all. The metal fixtures in the bathroom were corroded. The spout on jacuzzi tub swivels (it's not supposed to). Most of the power outlets were hidden behind furniture or the bed, making it way too hard to charge phones and laptops. The curtains won't close all the way, letting light stream in early in the morning. The carpet was stained and dirty. The fireplace could not be ignited. In fact, the fireplace gas switch was in the "on" position when we came in the room. Didn't smell gas, so we assume the switch is installed backwards. The bathroom door creaked loudly. The bathroom soap makes your skin crack. The couch was partially busted. The walls are very thin and the neighbors were not quiet. The continental breakfast consisted of only a few low-quality items. And this was the best suite at the place! I shudder to imagine what the other rooms were like. I spent a few hundred dollars for that room and really, I expected much better. I know Day's Inn is not exactly the Ritz, but they could have done so much better, and have done better at other Days Inn establishments I have visited. Visitor beware! Stay...
