THIS PLACE WAS THE WORST HOTEL DISASTER OF MY LIFE. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Monterey Bay Lodge sent me an email indicating the pool and hot tub were out of commission and couldn't be used. Bummer, buy okay. I was ready for a peaceful stay. When I arrived, I found the woman who checked me in to be curt and rude. So off to a bad start. The room wasn't great but would do. I kept my suitcase off the carpet and kept my shoes on. The next morning, I was awakened very early by a jackhammer and generator outside my room. It was ear splitting. I called the front desk and spoke with the employee there. He said the noise would continue until 4pm or so, and they were "sorry for the inconvenience." I asked them to adjust my bill accordingly and asked if they had another room or property they could move me to. I was paying top dollar for, you know, a place to get a decent night's sleep. I never raised my voice. The front desk worker called back after speaking with the owner. He stated they decided I HAD TO VACATE THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY AND THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE ON ME. You read that right. The police. He said I had TEN MINUTES TO GET OUT. I took videos of the noise. I also took a video of the vacated room and of the hotel employee inspecting the room so they couldn't claim I did any damage and try to keep my money. Then the hotel employee pivoted between threatening me and profusely apologizing and asking me to believe he was "not a bad person." Absolutely NUTS. Finding another hotel last minute took hours and wasted most of my day. What if I'd had kids or elderly travelers with me? It was hard enough finding another place on the fly, but it would have been impossible with kids. I asked for a refund on my way out, and the hotel employee tried to falsely claim they could keep my money because I made the reservation through a third party. Except that I made it directly with the business. They refunded some money, but certainly kept plenty as well. SAVE YOURSELVES. tl:dr I politely complained about jackhammer noise outside my window after paying them a ton of money. They immediately threw me out of the hotel and threatened to call the police on me. Finding another hotel wasted my day. The hotel employee pivoted between threatening me and profusely apologizing for it. They didn't refund all my money. It was bananas. 5/26/24 I just read the owner's response. I took video AFTER the owner told their employee to threaten me with calling the police and to force me to leave. They should refund all of my money. I encourage anyone considering staying at Monterey Bay Lodge to read my full review.

Our family (2 adults and 1 child) stayed at the Monterey Bay Lodge for two nights in October 2023. I wish we could have stayed much longer. We were greeted by friendly staff at check in. Our room was spacious with two comfortable beds on the second floor. The bathroom had the neatest bathtub - I think they call them a 'princess tub'. My husband loved the water pressure. I liked that the mirror and sink were in the room instead of the bathroom. There was a fridge and microwave for use as well. The sliding door lets you out onto a shared patio that faces the pool. We LOVED the pool. I think it was heated and it was such a treat for us Canadians to swim outside in the middle of October. Also the pool open late. The courtyard is also very charming with lights strung through the trees and two fire pits to sit by and chat. The location was really unbeatable - right across the road from the ocean and steps away from the Denise the Menace park - a big hit with our kid. There is a gas station seconds away and a fast food place right down the road. It was only a few minutes drive to the aquarium and super close to Pacific Grove (where our family lives). It truly felt like a motel experience from a bygone area where families would go on road trips for their vacations and stay at motels like this one. The only thing I didn't realise when booking is that they don't have air conditioning. It wasn't that big of a deal in the fall but not sure how that would fare in the summer. Otherwise I can't wait to stay there again! Thanks for a wonderful experience

Dishonest hotel, manager and workers.

I never ever write reviews, but this really warrants a review.

My family booked a room for 2 nights, and we made the reservation a month in advance. The booking was confirmed. Valid credit card details were provided, and a valid phone number was also provided.

On the day of checking in, a truck rear ended us, which delayed our journey as we had to replace our rental car. At 4.30pm, we called to confirm our booking, and let the front desk know we would be arriving late due to the accident. The staff who answered responded that our reservation was confirmed, and that it was ok to arrive at 9pm as they were open 24 hours.

When we arrived at 7.30pm, we were told our booking was cancelled. They gave the reason that they tried to charge our card at 1pm, and it did not go through. (Our debit card was working fine and we had used it that day successfully.) They had not made any calls to let us know.

We asked what had happened and Emi told us that they had given the room up at 5.30pm. This despite us calling at 4.30pm and them confirming our reservation. If it was true that they tried charging the card at 1pm and it did not go through, even if they hadn’t called us to inform us at that point (which is basic courtesy), at least they should have informed us when we called them at 4.30pm to confirm the reservation.

Asked to speak to the manager to explain the situation, but was told by Emi that “the manager does not like speaking to guests”. We did not push the matter further as Emi said if we speak to the manager, it will affect her position and job.

It sounds like this manager 1. does not care about her guests but only earning as much money as she can from guests, and 2. Will fire her workers over trying to help the guests.

We had booked the room for two nights. There were no more rooms left for the night when we arrived, but they did have one for the next night. When we asked if we could have the room for the next night, they quoted us a higher price than what we had originally booked and refused to honour the price we had booked at. This points to the fact that they are only out for money and do not have their guests’ interest at heart.

No compensation was given whatsoever, despite the fact that this situation arose due to the lodge and by no means us as the customer.

If you can stay at another lodge, please do. Your room is...

I recently made the grave mistake of booking a stay at the Monterey Bay Bay lodge inn. Foolishly, I thought that booking 10% of their total rooms would garner me some semblance of special treatment. How wrong I was! Despite reserving this substantial portion of their establishment back in January for an event in May, I was met with indifference upon arrival. The rooms I was allocated were far from the best they had to offer; in fact, they were the bare minimum, complete with a pitiful excuse for a room hidden away downstairs that reeked of decay and neglect.

To their credit, the staff did their best to accommodate my needs, but it was clear that the management cared little for their patrons. How could they not take notice of someone reserving 10% of their rooms months in advance and then provide absolutely no additional attention or care? The accommodations they did provide were nothing short of a rip-off. Astonishingly, I managed to secure an extra room on the day of my arrival for a price $100 less than what I had paid for the other lackluster rooms. It's truly mind-boggling.

This stay was supposed to be a memorable experience, as it coincided with my birthday. Instead, I was subjected to the excruciatingly embarrassing ordeal of begging to be moved to a room that wasn't infested with mold. And let's not forget the audacity of denying a late checkout request from guests who had booked numerous rooms. Apparently, the concept of basic hospitality eludes the management of this wretched establishment.

In conclusion, I strongly advise against ever considering this hotel as an option. The lack of attention, the subpar accommodations, and the overall disregard for their guests' comfort and satisfaction are simply inexcusable. As a paying customer, I firmly believe that I am entitled to compensation for enduring such an...
